im making this its own post actually
found family is "i have endured the fucking horrors with these guys. i would both kill and die for them. i would rip my own bones out to make splints to heal theirs. there is no name for the bond we share"
found family is NOT "this guy is so dad-coded and these guys are so sibling-like and—"
Is ao3 down?? Right when I was about to read?
The other crazy thing about obidala is how much more oedipal it makes Anakin.
Anakin's resentment towards Obi-Wan is already insane. The way he makes everything that's wrong Obi-Wan's fault is truly unhinged. I'm thinking of AotC and how Anakin brings Obi-Wan into his rant after he massacres the Tuskens and yells about how Obi-Wan is "jealous" of him. It is so unhinged really and truly. I love it, there's no actual logic to it, but there's an emotional logic. Like yeah, I can actually imagine a guy acting this way.
Anakin has this father figure who seems so perfect and everyone loves him, and Anakin can never measure up, so the father figure becomes an obstacle that has to be overcome. He's already a father-rival.
Padme's relationship with Anakin, meanwhile, already leans maternal. She looked out for him in TPM. There's the way she comforted him in AotC. RotS parallels Padme and Shmi, "I won't lose you the way I lost my mother." They are both these madonna-like figures Anakin is trying desperately to save.
So, Anakin already had issues. Add on top of that the idea that Obi-Wan and Padme had a relationship, or that Anakin at least thinks they did, and it makes this oedipus thing even more explicit. In Anakin's mind Obi-Wan and Padme are together as a mother and father, and he has to kill Obi-Wan to take his place.
I honestly think it's amazing that a blockbuster movie did this. I love Anakin's psychology so much. He's such a mess.

"do you want women competing against trans athletes" yes? I also want women competing against male athletes. and competing alongside them. because segregating sports by gender is extremely shitty actually?
I...tried to make a meme and got carried away and made A Thing that is like partially unfinished because i spent like 3 hours on it and then got tired.
I think this is mostly scientifically accurate but truth be told, there seems to be relatively little research on succession in regards to lawns specifically (as opposed to like, pastures). I am not exaggerating how bad they are for biodiversity though—recent research has referred to them as "ecological deserts."

Do you ever look at something you wrote and let out an audible “yikes”?
No shame, it happens all around. There’s always parts of our writing we wish would improve. Here are my best tips on what to pay attention to in order to avoid this.
Know your whys Knowing why you’re telling a story is still one of the most underrated “tips” out there. You’ll tend to solve 99% of your problems if you just know the reason you’re telling the story, and what specific thematic idea you’re actually trying to deliver.
Indulge in subtext Subtext can be a life-saver. If you’re going into a scene that you don’t know how to tackle, lay out the subtext first.
What is each character trying to achieve?
What is each character feeling?
What does each character want to avoid?
What’s the underlying conflict of the scene?
Are there any thematic arguments you could express that will make the scene feel more relatable?
Immerse yourself in description It’s easy to blaze through a scene when you know where your plot is headed, but allow yourself
Use:
- the senses to immerse readers into the scene
- internal reflection to allow readers a look into the inner workings of your character!
Don’t rush things When we know what we want our story to deliver, it’s difficult not to rush into the scenes we really want to write, or the twists we really want to reveal. But you need to allow yourself the space to build these storylines out and let them grow on their own time!
Read more In whatever way you wish to strengthen your writing, the absolute best way is to find books with similar genres, topics, or styles that you aspire to. Read them with understanding and if you like elements of the author’s writing, figure out how they got there.
