Man, woman and infant, victims of an earthquake in 365CE at Kourion, Cyprus
“The most amazing discovery at Kourion was the finding of a family trapped under tons of falling debris. A 25 year old man put his leg and arm over the body of a 19 year old woman but to no avail. A fallen block had snapped her neck at right angles. They held hands in their last moments and they still do. And in her arms, cradled to her chin was her one and a half year old baby. Rodents crawled down amid the hollows in the debree and attacked the soft flesh of the child, dragging it all about until the rodents themselves ended up as victims of the disaster. On the finger of the young lady was a bronze ring, which bore the Chi Rho, the symbol of Jesus Christ and which also had on it alpha, omega, which was a fitting inscription for it meant from the beginning to the very end.” - David Soren
ok but one thing i love about goncharov is the ironic subversion of themes. like we have katya, the madonna-like character whose white palette screams of loyalty and purity, while andrey is the judas-like character whose motifs are the dagger and the poisoned cup.
but at the end, it’s katya who draws a gun on goncharov, and andrey who’s left holding his bleeding body in his arms. by having the “loyal wife” be the backstabber and the “doublecrosser” be the broken-hearted lover, scorsese subverts both biblical imagery and gender roles, and he does it in such a subtle and poetic way too, without taking away the complexity of either character.
@thecharliedalton the half a rick roll has been born.

art will save you, being unreasonably passionate about something niche will save you, letting past sources of joy show you the way back to yourself will save you, earnestness over composure will save you, the natural world will save you, caring for something bigger than yourself will save you, daring to be seen will save you, kindness not as a whim but a principle will save you, appreciation as a practice will save you, daring to try something new will save you, grounding will save you, love will save you, one good nights sleep will save you

One of the most essential things about Dark Academia to me is the reclaimation. Like there’s something powerful about mostly women, lgbt people, people of color, and low income people seeing a space to which we’re not entitled and saying “no we’re gonna take it”. Like the fact that the fashion is made of taking men’s thrift store clothes and the concept of finding our own interpretations of literature and art which go against Eurocentric academic norms. This is a really disorganised post but I hope I’m getting my message across
Here’s a theory: Cameron’s parents are Charlie’s godparents – they think that Charlie’s an angel, when, in reality, he’s far from it. Due to the boys’ closeness, they relentlessly bicker, although they mutually agreed to avoid mentioning it a lot around the others. That’s why Cameron’s betrayal hurt so much.
