Alright I know I've already done a few but another Dazai hc
WARNING: This post talks about depression. I am in no way an expert or professional, and everything is based off of my own experience and research. If you relate to this, please seek professional help.
Ok so the headcanon in short is that Dazais depression caused him to 'lose' his sense of taste.
Quick explanation before moving on BUT a more accurate way to say it is that I don't think he can really perceive taste. It's kind of complicated and hard to explain but it's basically like when you eat something, you can't really tell someone what the food tastes like despite knowing that it does have a taste. It's something, but you don't know what, and no matter how familiar you are with food, you can't identify it. Sometimes you can, but only when it's super strong, and when the depression is unaddressed, it can worsen into not even getting strong flavors over time. It's important to note that you can remember what things tasted like. So, you could eat an apple before you lost your taste perception, then eat it again afterwards and remember that the apple tasted or is supposed to taste sweet. You can't tell that that apple specifically is sweet, but you can tell that the apple is supposed to be sweet in the form a phantom sensation or even just a though of 'Oh this is supposed to be sweet' way.
Going back to Dazai specifically, I think that, despite him getting better in the ADA, this perception worsened over time. Mainly because dude never actually deals with his depression. I can't really say when I think it would have started, but I'm leaning towards not long after or before he joined the PM. Mainly because he could still taste Odas spicy curry and alcohol. With that in mind, he can probably lie easily when asked to try or eat something, because he can remember what certain foods tasted like, and he's smart enough to give a general guess if he never tasted that dish but can tell some of the ingredients. Also because of this, I imagine that he likes canned crab because it has a nice texture to him. He can't taste, so whether or not he likes a food is more based on how it feels in his mouth. The canned crab is probably cheap and has a proper texture, making it still at least a little enjoyable for him to eat since he still can have some sensation in his mouth. At the same time, he likes whiskey or just alcohol in general because he can remember what it tastes like from back in the pm where they were strong enough for him to taste. Also I imagine that makes Dazai kind of picky on his food? Like if it has a weird or no texture, he won't like it. Same thing if it has a funny or bad scent.
reblog with one creative goal that you would like to pursue in 2025 in the tags
it doesn’t have to be ‘big’ and there is no pressure to complete said goal. but i’d love to hear from writers, artists, performers, academics, designers, coders, and so on! 🤍
if it’s a creative outlet, it’s included. let’s inspire each other ⋆ ˚。⋆୨୧˚
Been influenced quite a bit with how comics here on tumblr are formatted, so I've been experimenting lately with how I possibly want to upload sketches and stuff in the future--these little comics were mostly experiments on how high or low effort I would like to go.
In other news, I've finished this game twice now. I'm officially a follower and I've got ideas spinning in my head. This bodes poorly for me.

‼️Please don’t skip taking a look 🍉🇵🇸I am
ahmad from Gaza. I am 26 years old. I stand before you as a person trying to preserve his family. 🇵🇸💔💔
We try to live under miserable conditions in tents in Mawasi Khan Yunis, south of Gaza. It is difficult for me to find the words to describe what we face every day in Gaza. No food, no medicine, no clean drinking water, oppression, helplessness, psychological pressures, doubts, and daily trauma due to the loss of loved ones. In Gaza, it's not just hunger, disease and fear; Rather, it means actual death.
With a heart weighed down by sorrow, I reach out to you, hoping that kindness and humanity still shine in this world. My family and I have lost everything—the home that once sheltered us, the walls that echoed with laughter, the warmth and security that every human deserves. The relentless attacks on Gaza have turned our lives into a daily fight for survival. What was once a place of comfort and love is now nothing but rubble, and we are left with nothing but the clothes on our backs and a fragile tent that barely stands against the bitter cold.
Now, our days and nights are consumed by hardship. The icy wind pierces through the thin fabric of our tent, leaving us shivering, with no escape from the freezing temperatures. Food is scarce, clean water is hard to find, and the most basic necessities have become luxuries beyond our reach. Every day, we struggle—not just to live, but to preserve the dignity that war tries to strip away.
Amid this suffering, a new life was brought into the world—my brother’s daughter, an innocent soul who took her first breath in a tent instead of a warm home, her tiny body wrapped in whatever scraps of fabric we could find. She was born not into joy, but into loss, into hunger, into the unforgiving reality of war. And as we watch her, so fragile and pure, our hearts break knowing that we cannot give her the comfort and security she deserves and we cannot provide enough milk, diapers, medicines, and vitamins for her😭😭😭😭💔💔💔
I do not ask for much—just a little help to keep us going through these unimaginable times. A warm blanket to protect us from the cold, food to fill our empty stomachs, or even simply sharing our story so that others may hear our cries for help. Every small act of kindness can make a difference. 💔🍉🇵🇸😭
Your generosity has the power to bring warmth to our freezing nights, hope to our despair, and life to those struggling to survive. May the kindness you extend be returned to you a hundredfold.

Concept: Dazai joining the Agency and still figuring out what it means to live in the light. He doesn’t know a lot about the Agency and only has the Port Mafia’s perception of it to go off of.
Which isn’t exactly accurate.
And so Dazai tries to do things as lawfully as he can. Because they’re detectives. They work with the law enforcement so they must be law abiding people.
Much like when he first met Chuuya, Dazai only sees the surface level of what the Agency are. But not what’s beneath it until he’s partnered up with Doppo “my ideals do not vibe with the law” Kunikida.
A man who embodies what the Agency is and strives to be. He cares so deeply for order but he only follows the rules he believes are worth following.
And Dazai is fascinated by him. By what he’ll follow and what he’ll break. That at the core of it all it’s about saving people. If a rule gets in the way of that then it should be broken.
The Port Mafia were wrong about the Agency and Dazai was too. He sees why he was recommended this place to begin with.
Also I just find the idea of Dazai in the beginning trying to be the rule abiding one and Kunikida looking at him like he’s mad like “what are you a cop?” Personally hilarious.
And just Kunikida teaching Dazai to break the rules to do what’s right.
That it’s not about money or status. It’s about protecting people who can’t protect themselves. It’s about standing when the whole world wants you to back down. It’s about reaching a hand out to the lost and giving them a place to belong.
This is not the path for the faint of heart. This is not easy and you will go home questioning if anything you did ever mattered. You will lose, you will fall and you will get back up and do it again tomorrow.
If you can’t do that then you should just quit while you’re ahead. And years later Dazai is still at Kunikida’s side as they head to another case.
Because he learned. Because he rose to the challenge and made it his own. He took it all in stride and went forward. People may say otherwise but Dazai knows without a shadow of a doubt that it’s this is where he belongs.
As part of the side that saves lives.
As part the bad guys enemies.
As part of the Armed Detective Agency.
