You were sitting in the common room with some of the other girls, deciding to have a movie marathon. You finished your homework and wanted to get your mind off things, so of course you agreed.
Uraraka stepped into the common room, a bag over her shoulder.
“Uraraka! Come watch some movies with us!” Hagakure said happily and the brunette looked over with an apologetic smile.
“Sorry, can’t. I have some training to do with Katsuki,” she said and Mina instantly perked up. You hugged one of the pillows you brought out to your chest. You were the only one he allowed to call you that before this.
“Katsuki? Are you two a thing now?” Mina asked and Uraraka let out a nervous laugh, rubbing the back of her neck.
“I have to go,” she said softly and started to walk away.
“So, you are a thing!” the girls squealed and you were filled with dread, your heart aching in your chest. Uraraka didn’t answer and walked out of the dorms. Her silence left you feeling even more anxious. Were they a thing?
“Oh, I just realized I forgot to finish a paper. Sorry, girls, I have to skip our movie night,” you said and gave them a small smile, trying to convince both yourself and them that you were fine. You collected your pillows and blankets, trudging up to your dorm.
“She’s been acting different lately,” Tsuyu spoke up and the rest of the girls turned to look at her.
“What makes you say that?” Jirou asked, leaning back against the couch cushions.
“I don’t know, I just have a feeling,” Tsuyu answered.

It was a week after the incident you heard about Uraraka and Bakugou being a thing when you got a text from him, after he had blown you off several other times when you asked if you could spend time together out of school.
To be completely honest, you were sick of it. You preferred a blatant rejection over being treated the way Bakugou was treating you.
Bakugou: Oi, meet me by the front gate in ten minutes.
You decided not to answer his text, wanting to give him a taste of his own medicine. You knew it was childish and petty, but you were tired of how he was acting towards you.
What you didn’t expect was for Bakugou to blow up your phone fifteen minutes later.
Bakugou: Where the hell are you?
Bakugou: I know you read my text.
Bakugou: Okay, what is up with you lately?
Bakugou: I need to get back to training soon. Get out here.
You rolled your eyes and put your phone down, hugging a pillow to your chest.
“Stupid,” you muttered to yourself and forced back the tears that welled up in your eyes.

Bakugou stood out by the front gate, glaring down at his phone. He didn’t know why you were possibly ignoring him. As far as he knew, he hadn’t done anything wrong.
“Katsuki!” he heard someone call, a bit disappointed when he realized it was Uraraka and not you.
“We aren’t training today,” he said bluntly and she looked up at him.
“Really? Why not?” she asked, genuinely curious.
“I have to take care of some things.”
“Is it (Y/N)?”
“No…”
“It is! That’s so cute. Go talk to her!” Uraraka started to push Bakugou back through the front gates.
“Alright! I’m going!” Bakugou shoved his hands into his pockets, walking back inside the school. He soon found himself standing in front of the door to your dorm. Just as he was about to bang on the door when you opened it. You looked up at him, surprised for a moment before your eyes narrowed into a glare.
You squeezed by him and started to walk down the hall, not expecting him to follow you.
“Alright, what the hell is wrong with you?” he hissed and grabbed your arm, pulling you back.
“Me? Me? What the hell is wrong with you?” you asked in return, yanking your arm out of his grip.
“What are you even talking about? I’ve done nothing wrong!”
“Oh, yeah, sure. Didn’t you say you had training? Just go back to Uraraka already!”
“Uraraka? Wait, is this what this is about?”
“I just think you shouldn’t blow me off after promising to meet me places after you swore you-”
“You’re jealous.”
“So what if I am? You kissed me and told me that you had feelings for me and then completely ignore me after the Sports Festival. Why her, Katsuki? Am I just not good enough for you anymore? Am I just a-”
“Okay! I get it!” Bakugou ran his fingers through his hair, letting out a sigh. He had no clue you felt that way, he was just a bit shocked that someone else could put up such a fight against him. He knew you could and a few others, but he never expected Uraraka of all people, wanting to help her grow stronger. “Look, (Y/N), I fucked up-”
“You think?” you asked and he glared at you, making you roll your eyes.
“I don’t like her, you dumbass. It’s hard to believe I like someone like you, getting all jealous,” he mumbled and looked away. He honestly found it a bit cute that you got jealous, not knowing how you’d respond if he admitted that. You looked away, wrapping your arms around yourself.
“Are you just saying that to make me feel better?” you asked and he groaned.
“Okay, look. I may be an asshole, but I’m not that big of an asshole. I wouldn’t lie to you. There’s nothing between Uraraka and I. I’m sorry that I didn’t clarify that there wasn’t.” The last part was mumbled and you cupped tour hand by your ear.
“What was that?” It was rare that he ever apologized and you wanted to hear the words again. He rolled his eyes and pulled you close, pressing a kiss to your lips.
“I said, I’m sorry,” he whispered against your lips, staring down into your eyes.
“Okay… I forgive you,” you whispered in return and the corner of his lip twitched slightly.
Little did you know that quite a few other students from 1-A were watching, after hearing you two yelling, and found Bakugou’s soft side around you adorable.
One of the girls squealed and Bakugou looked up, glaring at the cluster of his classmates as he pulled you even closer and wrapped his arms around your waist.
“What the hell do you want?!” he yelled and they all quickly dispersed, finding some place to run to get away from his sudden anger. You laughed and he looked back down at you. “What’s so funny?”
“Nothing,” you hummed and pressed a kiss to Bakugou’s cheek. “Now come on. You have to make this all up to me.”
“I thought you said-”
“I have forgiven you. Just, not entirely.”
“You’re such a pain in my ass…”

Part 3
There was a strange feeling in the air when they arrived.
Lance could feel it as plainly as if it were static electricity crackling across his skin, raising the hair on his arms. He followed quietly next to Hunk, who was happily chatting away about nothing in particular as they walked through the Garrison hangar.
They had landed late in the evening, securing a last-minute spot for Hunk’s ship thanks to Iverson’s influence, which meant there wasn’t a big crowd milling about. Lance was grateful for that. The atmosphere was tense enough without bumping against people as they walked.
“…think that’s Keith’s ship?” Hunk asked. “Oh, hey! There’s your sister!”
Lance would have to be blind to not see Keith’s ship. It was all sharp, sleek angles and crafted with black metals, just like every other Galra ship, and sharply contrasted against the gray and orange of the Galaxy Garrison.
Veronica was standing near the open ramp, waving to someone. She turned away with a smile on her face and froze in her tracks the moment she recognized them.
“Lance!”
He lifted his hand in greeting. “Hey.”
Veronica made her way over to them. “Is that the kind of greeting you give your favorite sister? I haven’t seen you in months! ‘Hey’, he says.”
Hunk stifled his laughter behind his hands.
Her gaze softened as she looked them over. “It’s good to see you both. Do you have a place to stay while you’re here? We’re a little tight on space, but I’m sure we can figure something out.”
“We’re just going to stay on the Teuila,” Hunk told her. “Our rooms are actually pretty nice and I think everyone will be more comfortable that way.”
Veronica nodded in understanding. “Keith and his crew said the same thing, but I figured it would be best to offer. What about you, Lance? You can come room with me while you’re here.”
The offer was tempting, but Lance was going to take advantage of having a room all to himself while he was away from the family farm. It was nice to relax without anyone barging in at all hours of the day.
“As much as I love your couch, I think I’ll pass this time,” Lance said.
“I’m here if you change your mind. So, where are you two off to? Not getting into trouble already, are you?” Veronica asked teasingly.
“We’re going to go visit Pidge and her family. We made better time than I expected, so we want to surprise her,” Hunk said.
“That might be a little difficult, since she’s out with Keith right now,” Veronica said.
Lance and Hunk stared at her for a moment and then exchange a confused look before turning their attention back to Veronica and asking, in unison: “What?”

“Hey Katsuki, tell me something.”
“What is it now?”
You fiddled with your fingers out of pure boredom or could it be nervousness? The walk to your intended destination appeared to be taking longer than expected. A shallow breeze swept by, letting your hair fly free and dance in the warm wind. Bakugou hadn’t realized he was staring since he was suddenly entranced by your unintentional charm.
After what seemed like a lifetime, you spoke up.
“What are we?”
The question caught him completely off guard. He had never taken into consideration what you thought of each other. Neighbors? Friends? Classmates?
However, he knew you harbored feelings for another.
“What is that supposed to–” “We’re here!”
You made your way into the shop, a bell signaling your presence to the cashier at the register whom you instantly recognized.
“Michiko, it is so nice to see you again.” You greeted.
“I’d say the same to you, Y/N. Ah, is this a friend of yours?” She smiled, gesturing at Bakugou who had a displeased scowl on his face.
“Yes,” you answered, tugging him towards you. “This is Bakugou, I’m sorry if he seems rude. He’s feeling a bit under the weather right now.”
“That’s all right,” Michiko laughed. “I have your order ready in the back, let me go fetch it for you.”
“Perfect, thank you!”
You turned to face Bakugou once more and found it was not an aggressive expression that adorned his features but more of a melancholy one. He was so deep in thought that you did not want to disrupt him but you did so anyways.
“Katsuki, stop spacing out. Come take a look at these hyacinths with me.” You grasped his hand with yours.
“Huh? Quit holding my hand, Y/N.”
“Be quiet, I’m trying to tell the difference between each of their meanings.”
“Why the fuck do you care so much?”
You sighed deeply, “I have a plant based Quirk, idiot. This is some research I am doing and gathering knowledge on various blossoms.”
“I don’t know what is so special about some-” “A-ACHOO!”
With another explosive sneeze, the hyacinths before you shook violently before settling back into place. A coughing fit ensued right after so you began rummaging through your school bag. Bakugou grumbled as you handed him a handkerchief for his ailing nose and a cough drop.
“Oh my god, you made the petals come off them!”
“Not my fault their shitty pollen made me fucking sneeze.”
“Why you-!”
Michiko appeared in the nick of time, a precious bouquet blanketed in her cautious arms. You caught off guard by the size of it, surely you’d have to have Bakugou carry it with you.
“Here you are.” She placed the floral arrangement on the counter and noticed you both head butting each other.. “Oh, what’s wrong?”
“This jerk scared the petals right off of some hyacinths I was gazing at.”
“Oh those?” Michiko made her way to the unorganized display. “You can have them if you like, they’re close to wilting and I do not want them to go to waste.”
“I can’t accept those. It’s your inventory.”
“It’s fine, honestly. They’ll degrade too quickly at my house since I get too busy managing the shop.”
“I really shouldn’t-”
Bakugou groaned loudly at the situation. “Y/N, decide already. I want to go home. With a Quirk like yours I’m sure they’ll stick around for a while.”
Your face flushed at the subtle compliment. He had known that you belittled your Quirk on the daily because you felt as if you were not cut out to be a hero. Bakugou had helped you out of that rut by offering you to duel with him during training and while discovering your strengths and weaknesses.
You finally gave into your desires and gladly accepted the flowers.
“Thank you once again, Michiko.”
A small smile danced on his lips but he quickly hid it with a turn on his heel. You were both out the door once more in pursuit of your home close by.
“What are they saying?”
“I don’t know. Kaminari, move your head!”
“Sero, you’re squishing me…”
“Sorry, Ashido.”
The group of friends hid in a cluster of shrubs to conceal their spying on Bakugou and Y/N. If there was a slim chance that the two would begin dating by the end of the night, then all of them had to be there to witness it. Call it being nosy but they considered it vouching for their one true pairing to become a reality.
Currently, you were discussing today’s earlier lesson at school with Bakugou. You had missed a large portion of the lesson by spending it in the infirmary.
“Aizawa’s exam is going to end me. I can feel the planets going into Gatorade. ”
“Hey…”
“Iida offered to tutor me but I feel as if he would drone on and on.” You continued. “Momo might be a bit more helpful but I do not want to burden her.”
“Y/N, what-“
“I should have taken better notes throughout class. God, my academic career is over–“
At that very moment Bakugou’s fuming temper snapped.
“WILL YOU PLEASE SHUT THE FUCK UP! I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET YOUR ATTENTION FOR THE LAST FIVE MINUTES,” He yelled out with steam coming out of his ears. “AND THE WORD IS RETROGRADE, DUMBASS. R-E-T-R-O-G-R-A-D-E.”
You blinked, clearly unfazed. “I’m sorry, Katsuki. What were you saying?”
He grumbled for a second and finally spoke. “What you said at the shitty flower shop…”
“Yeah?”
“When you asked, ‘What are we?’, was there a certain meaning behind it?”
You thought for a moment and laughed hysterically in his face. “Haha, I didn’t get to finish what I was going to say. I meant to ask what are we going to do about the training camp?”
As soon as you spoke those words, his mind lost grip of reality. You had appeared so serious when you questioned him. He hasn’t misread your body language, you were full of sincerity. Had there really been no other interpretations of it?
“Well fuck,” he spat. “Here I was thinking that you wanted me.”
“Wanted you?” You laughed again with tears in your eyes. “Don’t flatter yourself, Katsuki. I do not think of you in any romantical way.”
“Same to you, shithead.”
From the bushes, the group of friends held back their anguished screams. The plant shook violently from the outside and almost gave away their disguise.
“She shot him down!” Mina cried.
“Y/N is so unintentionally cruel.” Sero piped in.
“Bakugou doesn’t seem upset though. He’s taking it like a real man.” Kirishima weeped.
“Hold on, let’s keep watching.” Kaminari said.
A feminine voice cut in from behind. “Can I help you?”
The quartet emerged from their hiding spot and bowed down to the floor. They all shivered in fear of what could happened and didn’t dare lock eyes with either of them. Apologies began to be shouted from each of them.
“WE’VE BEEN CAUGHT!”
“PLEASE DON’T BLOW US UP, BAKUGOU.”
“Y/N, USE YOUR QUIRK AND KEEP HIM DOWN.”
“IT’S NOT MANLY TO BARBECUE YOUR FRIENDS!”
The voice cut them out of their trance, it was unfamiliar. “Are you all okay? I am not going to hurt you. Now, stop bowing so low. It’s embarrassing.”
Michiko stared down at the group of teenagers with a puzzled expression. A sigh of relief escaped from their trembling lips. She was only sweeping around the outside of the shop but the quaking shrub caught her attention.
“That uniform,” she smirked. “It’s from U.A., right? You must be Y/N’s friends.”
“Yes ma’am,” Kaminari confirmed. “We were spying on her and Bakugou.”
Michiko giggled, “You’d better get a move on then, she’s heading home.”
“Of course. We’re so sorry for the disturbance!”
Within a few seconds they had dashed down the street and disappeared from her sight.
“Kids these days,” she chuckled.
The door opened once more as she made her way back inside. She made her way to the used-to-be hyacinth display while something caught her attention.
“Oh, that’s odd.”
She bent down to the ground and scooped up a bit of the petals that were supposedly knocked off earlier. She inspected them with her experienced eyes and quickly made a conclusion.
“These are gardenia petals. I haven’t received a shipment of those in about three weeks…”
As the time passed, the silence that loomed between you two was everything but comfortable. There was an elephant in the room that no one wanted to address or even knew what it was about. Your friendship strained over the next few months and Bakugou’s condition only grew even more worse without you knowing.
“There’s something fucking wrong with me,” he panted as he felt the next round of it come up his throat.
He coughed violently once more and yellow petals flew from his mouth. It was tragically beautiful but to Bakugou it was absolute insanity.
“I have to go back to training,” he told himself. “Or they’ll catch onto what is wrong.”
Bakugou composed himself and readjusted his hero costume. Aizawa had only excused him for a couple of minutes so he had to hurry back to the field. He ran back with a hand over his mouth in case his body acted up again.
Izuku shot him a glance. “Kacchan? Are you all right?”
The question only made him more upset. “I’m fine, you damn nerd.”
This time you made a comment. “You look pale, I think you should sit out. I’ll go tell Eraserhead and All Might–“
“It’s none of your fucking business, Y/N.” He spat. “Keep quiet or I’ll blow your brains out.”
You got near him and placed an arm on his shoulder. “You have no right to speak to me in that way. Calm down, Katsuki.”
“Don’t fucking touch me!” He yelled at you and before he could stop, an explosion hit you directly at full force.
You were thrown into the air as the rest of the students watched in horror. It was too painful for you to use your Quirk. They all scattered around in an attempt to catch your limp body. Todoroki elevated himself with his ice and roughly caught you in his arms.
The teachers quickly called for Recovery Girl to be brought there immediately. You were capable enough of speaking and objected to getting help. The burn wound on your abdomen signaled otherwise. However, everyone was too distracted to notice that Bakugou was coughing up even more petals now.
He wiped his mouth and his eyes widened in sheer panic.
“Is this blood?”

The first time you saw him, you thought he was beautiful.
Five-year-olds have a vague idea of what beauty is, but somehow you knew he was beautiful the moment you first laid eyes on him.
It was purely done on accident–one of your playmates threw a ball at you at a speed that you didn’t handle, and instead of catching it with your small arms, the ball caused impact on your head and made you fall over. You laughed and looked up at your playmates to tell them you were fine, but then your eyes caught sight of the traditional house right across the street where you were playing. Upon closer inspection, you saw a boy, maybe about the same age as you were, standing on the wooden balcony with his hands clutched on the railing. A smile was upon his lips.
He was what one would describe as odd. His hair–red on the left side of his head and white on the right–was odd. His eyes–a vibrant turquoise hue colored his left eye while a cold gray was present on his right eye–was peculiar.
Yet you–a five-year old who still doesn’t grasp the concept of beauty–found him beautiful. So beautiful that you found yourself staring at him for a few moments, not minding the curious gazes of some of your playmates and the others’ attempts to regain your attention to the game.
He, too, was looking at your direction, perplexed as to why a girl from across the street was staring at him so intently. Before he discovered his answer, a rough hand pulled one of his arms away from the balcony railing and dragged him inside the house.
You looked on silently at the boy dragged aggressively by a man with tongues of fire on his face. For the last time, however, you saw him look back at your direction.
His smile was gone, his expression forlorn.
He disappeared after a slide of a door.
In that moment you knew.
You had to know his name.

“Mama, mama, there’s a boy living across the street with white and red hair and two differently colored eyes!”
A soft smile graced your mother’s lips as she gave you a glass of water to drink to refresh you from your afternoon playdate.
“Really (f/n)?” she asked, feigning curiosity.
“Yes, mama! He was… um… what’s the word..?” you trailed off to say the word on the tip of your tongue.
“Odd?” your mother finished.
“No, that’s not it.”
“Then what?”
You stayed silent, looking at the glass of water with intent, hoping to find the word suitable to describe the boy. Your mother looked at you with curious eyes.
“Was he… beautiful, (f/n)?” she asked.
A spark seemed to go off in your head and you looked at you mother with a twinkle in your eyes.
“He was beautiful…” you tested the word on your tongue before bursting out with joy. “Yes, mama! He was beautiful!”
You smiled as you downed the glass of water with satisfaction and handed it back to your mother.
“Do you know his name, Mama?” you asked suddenly, tiptoeing to meet your mother’s eyes.
Your mother set the glass down in thought. She must’ve heard from the neighbors about a boy with red and white hair and differently colored eyes living across the street. Now if only she could remember the name…
“Todo…roki, was it? Ah wait, I remember now. Todoroki Shouto. His name’s Todoroki Shouto.”

You said the name slowly, testing how it felt on your tongue.
“Todoroki Shouto.”
Your eyes twinkled again in delight the moment his name left your lips.
Even his name was beautiful.

The second time you saw him, he had a scar on his face.
A light breeze touched your skin gently as you rushed outdoors one morning where you had woken up earlier than usual. You took a deep breath as your feet planted themselves on the street outside your house, filling your lungs with fresh air, and exhaled with satisfaction as the morning air left you feeling more refreshed than usual.
That’s when you saw him.
Right across the street, standing behind a cast-iron gate, illuminated by the sun’s rays.
Staring at you.
The morning sunlight touched his face and emphasized his facial features in morning light. But, there was something that caught your attention. Something you didn’t see from the moment you first saw him. Something odd.
A jagged, red mark covered a rather large region around his left eye.
He looked hurt.
You took a small step toward him, as if to test the waters between you. You had a condition: If he would flinch or react even the slightest, you wouldn’t pursue it any longer and leave.
He didn’t.
So, you took small steps toward him, every move calculated and careful. Your eyes didn’t leave his form, examining him as you walked toward him. He didn’t react with every step you made.
He just stared.
Moments later you were right in front of him, barely close enough that he could reach you. Only the cast-iron gate was separating the two of you. With only a few inches of distance from each other, you noticed his eyes were blank, devoid of any expression.
“Hello, Todoroki-san,” you greeted warmly, hoping to initiate even the smallest of conversations.
He blinked, lips parting slowly as if to form words.
You then realized your mistake.
“You… how did you know my name?” he asked. There was a barely visible expression coloring his heterochromatic eyes with a bit of vibrance… surprise, maybe?
Your cheeks flushed red with embarrassment, lips trembling and voice stuttering as you struggled to form coherent words. “A-ah! S-sorry ab-about th-that, I..I..”
“Speak slowly.”
You gulped, deeply breathing a few times to regain your composure and started to speak again. “Ah, the thing is…my mama happened to know your name and told me when I asked her.”
There was a new expression present in Todoroki’s eyes, you noticed, as his eyes lit up fractionally.
“Why?” he inquired again, as he looked into your eyes, seeming to search for the answers he was seeking in them. His childish curiosity was getting the better of him.
You were silent for a while, debating on what you were going to say to him. If you were to say the wrong thing, it would break the conversation, and you might not see him for god-knows-how-long, and that might be a long time. Maybe never.
You wanted to see him again.
“I saw you two weeks ago while I was playing with my friends on this street,” you began, slowly enunciating the words as if to test how they would sound. “I…wanted to…see you again.”
Silence.
Deafening silence.
You felt a pang of fear well up in your stomach as you heard your words echo back. Oh no, you thought. Maybe that didn’t sound right.
He’s still staring, but the tiniest of expressions were gone. His eyes have gone blank again.
Oh no. That definitely didn’t sound right.
“A-ah! I’m sor—” you managed to stutter out before his voice interrupted your apology. “What’s your name?”
You stand in silence for a few minutes, this time however, avoiding his eyes and trying to hide the redness that dusted your cheeks in embarrassment. Todoroki slightly tilted his head to the side, waiting for your answer.
“I’m (l/n) (f/n),” you finally said after a few moments of silence.
He nodded slowly and whispered under his breath. Your ears caught syllables of your name being repeated in his hushed whispers.
The sun was starting to warm the surroundings when he turned to leave wordlessly.
“Wait!” you exclaimed suddenly, attempting to make him turn back. Your heart leapt when he did.
“Can I see you again?” you blurted out, barely keeping your emotions under wraps for too long. Todoroki saw your eyes hold a small glimmer of hope.
“Yes,” he replied softly, holding your gaze with his briefly. His voice held no tone of hesitation.
“Same time… here in front of your gate?” you asked, expecting to feel a sense of definitiveness of when you can see him again.
He gave you the smallest of nods before he walked off, disappearing from your line of vision.
You smiled in content, as you slowly made your way back to your home, a renewed energy coursing through you.
Even the smallest of nods was enough confirmation for you.

You found yourself waking up when the sun barely peeked over the horizon every morning.
Todoroki would be in the same place every morning, behind the cast-iron gate of his house, waiting patiently for your appearance. And, every morning, without fail, you would always show up almost immediately, greeting him with a smile. “Good morning, Todoroki-kun!”
He would always nod to acknowledge you but would stay silent.
Todoroki wouldn’t talk much either when you were having conversations. You talked about almost everything, from your quirks to how your day went to other random things you would ramble on about with your childish bubbliness.
But you would never talk about family. You had attempted, however, in the first few days you got to talk to him, but he evaded the topic so suddenly that you never pursued it again in fear that you would never get to talk to him again and go back to square one in getting to know him more.
Todoroki doesn’t voice it out though, but he enjoys your company. He’d listen to your rambling on and on to distract him from other things, even though he wouldn’t usually reply and be silent for most of your conversation.
After a few weeks of early morning talks, he asked if you could be friends.
“Eh, aren’t we already friends?” you asked in bewilderment, your small hands clutching on the railings of the gate, wide eyes staring at his.
“We are, (l/n)-san?” it was his turn to ask, eyes holding the same bewildered expression as yours.
“Well,” you started. “We talk about almost everything…and we are getting to know each other more every morning. You always listen to me when I talk, and I’d listen to you. Besides…” you trail off, attempting to find the right words to say.
“Besides, I’m happy when I’m with you every morning, Todoroki-kun.”
Todoroki stood still, as you smiled warmly at him. He noticed how your eyes sparkled in the morning light as you smiled.
Though Todoroki doesn’t talk much, he felt he was at a loss for words. He was hesitant to say anything that may break the friendship he realized you have shared for a very long time that only grew whenever you met every morning.
He was afraid to say anything that may make him lose the only friend he had.
“Friends make you happy, don’t they?” you said cheerfully.
The boy glanced at you, feeling a warm feeling bubbling inside him. Before he knew it, his lips had upturned into a small smile.
“In that case, (l/n)-san, we’re friends now.”

Today wasn’t like most days.
You stood still, unmoving, even as the sun had begun its steady rise to place itself in the sky. Still, there was an unease that pushed you to the brink of confusion. Your eyes remain fixed on the cast-iron gate.
There was an unusual emptiness behind the cast-iron gate. You waited.
“Shouto-kun?” you called out. Your voice faded in the emptiness.
You had resigned to calling Todoroki by his first name after you had grown accustomed to your early morning meetings and realized the friendship that was cultivated by the morning talks. He was hesitant to call you by your first name, but he eventually got used to it. He still adds the honorific “-san” out of habit, which you didn’t mind.
There was a lump in your throat as you waited for him to arrive at his usual spot behind the gate. Still, you didn’t move, your small feet planted firmly on the ground.
The sun had started to warm your skin when you realized that he wasn’t going to appear.

Every morning, out of habit, you still wake up before the sun peeked out over the horizon.
Every morning, out of habit, you stand in front of the cast-iron gate. Out of habit, your heart drops to find it empty.
You don’t realize how long you’ve been doing these things out of habit until the first year you started middle school.
“Again?” your mother asked you as she saw you reenter the house after yet another futile attempt to see Todoroki again.
You nodded slowly, before sitting down before the dinner table. You placed your chin in your hands and let out a sigh. Your mother sat down beside you, her hands finding their way to your hair to stroke it gently.
“You’ve been doing this for how long?” she asked.
“I dunno,” you mumbled under your breath in reply.
Your mother looked a you with eyes glassed over with concern as she continued stroking your hair to comfort you.
“At first, I thought it was a habit that would fade eventually with your childhood,” she explained. “But then I noticed it still continued even as you started elementary school. It’s been years (f/n), and you’re thirteen now. You’re still continuing a habit that started when you were five.”
In her tone, you deduced that she obviously wanted you to stop your childhood habits and move on.
But you can’t help but feel that you wanted to see him again.
“I’m sorry mama,” you whispered softly as you stood from your chair, escaping from your mother’s touch.
“I haven’t told him that I found him beautiful yet.”

On the morning of the first day of your third year in middle school, you tried to force yourself out of old habits.
You didn’t wake up in the early hours of morning, neither did you walk outdoors to stand at the cast-iron gate across the street.
Still, you found it tempting to stare at the gate as you stepped outside to go to school. You tried avoiding looking at it for too long as you started walking the route to school.
Your pace slowed to a stop when you were a few steps away from the gate. You craned your neck to look at the gate for a moment. But, your gaze lingered. Lingered for too long.
Before you even realized that your eyes were on the gate for too long than you intended, you caught sight of him.
Behind the iron-cast gate.
Staring at you.
“Shouto-kun.”
