Exactly.
To whom it may concern,
Nie Mingjueās blind spot
That part where Nie Mingjue asks Jin Guangyao something on the lines of āare you different than them/ what makes you differentā and then claiming that he himself would never use his privilege for his own benefit is so funnyā¦
Like babe, you are great and have your own trauma to deal with, but you know⦠you managed to openly attack and injure your sworn brother with zero consequences because you are the privileged legitimate sect-leader, and he is the whoreson grudgingly recognised.
Talk about privilege blindness of the elite⦠really!!!
Mu Qing, grinning: Before you were what?Ā
Feng Xin: Before I was-Ā
Mu Qing: What?Ā
Feng Xin: Before I was inter-
Mu Qing: Before you were interrupted?Ā
Feng Xin: Cut me off one more time and I swear I'll-Ā
Mu Qing: What?Ā
Feng Xin: *makes frustrated sound*Ā
Xie Lian, nervously: Stop that. Before he hurts you.
Something I love about WWX is that he never regrets saving the Wens. The strength of his conviction is justā¦inspiring.
And itās not that he just accepts what happened in his first life. We see several moments where heās sarcastic or otherwise recognizes the hypocrisy of the sects. We see others when he recalls the pain he endured. Even after his resurrection, heās still not okay with how the sects treated him then and still treat him now.
Itās also not that heās just not the type to regret his decisions. I think thatās part of it, but we saw in his conversation with JC about the core transfer that he had to persuade himself he was okay with it. He is a person who looks forward rather than backwards, but thatās a deliberate action as well as a natural perspective.
āBut, let the self judge the right and the wrong, let others decide to praise or to blame, let gains and losses remain uncommented on.ā
This is a hard philosophy to hold to! When someone has encountered a major loss, itās pretty natural to wish it hadnāt happened or think about what they could have done differently. And WWX lost terribly, but he never thinks he shouldnāt have saved the Wens. He told us that whether he won or lost didnāt matter because he knew what the right thing to do was, and his resolution was put to the test, but he kept it.
Itās especially impressive because for almost the entire story, he doesnāt even know that A-Yuan survived. He goes through the story thinking he only managed to save Wen Ning, who still suffered terribly. But he never thinks that his sacrifice was in vain, and therefore it was meaningless. It wasnāt meaningless to do the right thing, even if it didnāt work out. This kind of conviction is justā¦really impressive.
A mxtx crossover event where all the red-black characters had to fight, I believe, would result in a very interesting rock paper scissors scenario.
Wei Wuxian, being the Ghost Whisperer, could probably beat, or at the very least subdue Hua Cheng. We know Hua Cheng is weak to Ghost Stuff a la the Mount Tonglu opening incident, and Wei Wuxian has dealt with extremely powerful spirits in the past.
That being said, I think Hua Cheng could take Luo Binghe in a fight. This guy bested 33 heavenly officials, his swordplay is unmatched, and Luo Binghe is very powerful but I imagine that power comes with the side effect of very little finesse. Additionally his protagonist halo probably wouldnāt save him here since heās not the only protagonist.
However, Luo Binghe would totally destroy Wei Wuxian. With his itty bitty Mo Xuanyu core he doesnāt stand a chance. Tearing through an army of the undead is the exact sort of op bullshit Binghe excels at, so that option is out too.
That being said, if their love interests are also fighting, Xie Lian bodies those fools. Iām sorry but even though Lan Wanji is excellent and SQQ is a peak lord, they do not stand a chance. Xie Lianās favorite trick for 800 years was to break boulders on his chest while he had no access to any spiritual energy. Dude folded the heavenly emperor like a lawn chair. No contest.
while reading the books, i remember wei wuxianās relationship with jin ling hitting me especially hard. i was crying when the whole stabbing thing happened. but i truly adore what becomes of them and do you know why? because jin ling does something the others could never, something miraculous reallyāāhe actually unlearns the prejudice heās been taught to hold against wei wuxian. he meets wwx, full of disdain, slowly learning about who wwx really is and it has nothing to do with wwxās outward appearance. and when the truth is revealed, the internal warring for jin ling is plainly portrayed and even if he does give in to a hate intermingled with grief that he has internalised towards this one entity (wei wuxian was never a person in his mind, just the ākillerā of his parents, a phantom, before the events of the book happened), you can tell his heart has already turned, that it will keep turning and thatās what happens. you have jin ling, an orphaned child, who hated someone whom his mother loved dearly, because that man caused his parentsā death but it is such a commendable thing that wei wuxian was able to create a space in jin lingās heart and jin ling was able to accept it. itās the way both jin ling & jiang cheng blame the death of their parents on wwx but only the former was able to see wei wuxian clearly and actually forge a bond of love with him.
itās the fact that if ANYONE in this story can actually rightfully hold a grudge against wei wuxian, itās jin ling, but instead this teenager decides that wei wuxian is much too good and that having him as an uncle is lovely, after all.
Lan Wangji: āheās too close! And too naked! Quick! ACT NORMALā

@here4hualian kissmas day 5: kissing the cursed shackles
Xie Lian is bathing himself in the river when he notices the little ghost fire.
He calls out to it. "Hello? Do you need anything?"
Xie Lian doesn't feel particularly concerned about his modesty. Maybe it's the fact that the ghost fire doesn't have visible eyes to watch him with, even if it is hovering rather intently.
"Are you alright?" Xie Lian tries.
The ghost fire finally responds. "I'm fine. Dianxia doesn't need to worry about me."
Xie Lian is too tired to deal with how being recognized makes him feel. "Did you want to use the river? I don't mind sharing."
Slowly, the ghost fire drifts over, although it makes to movements towards the water. It just hovers next to Xie Lian, giving off a faint blue glow.
Subconsciously, Xie Lian scratches at his cursed shackle. It's been hurting all day. Ah, that's probably how the ghost fire recognized him. Word of his banishment and the punishment he received has spread quickly through the mortal realm.
"Does it hurt?" the ghost fire asks, and Xie Lian startles.
"Ah, it's nothing, really."
The ghost sinks lower towards the water, and Xie Lian is reminded of the way a human might pout. Perhaps it was looking to emphasize? Who better could understand pain than someone who has experienced death?
"I tried to use my spiritual powers today," Xie Lian tells it. "This thing has been squeezing at me ever since. It's only a little painful, don't worry. I've felt way worse."
"Is there anything this one can do to help?"
"Unless you have some spiritual energy to lend me." Xie Lian means it as a joke.
The ghost fire takes it seriously.
It floats upwards, flying over to Xie Lian's neck. The sensation of cold flames on his bare skin tickles, and chills rise down Xie Lian's spine.
And then, there's a tendril of energy flowing into him. It's small, barely there at all, but to Xie Lian, who hasn't had anything like it in so long, it may as well be an ocean of power.
It feels almost like a kiss, the way the ghost fire is transferring it.
After a moments, Xie Lian pulls away. His cheeks are slightly flushed. "You'll burn yourself out if you give me too much, silly thing. You really didn't need to do that."
"But I wanted to. Does it still hurt?"
Xie Lian pauses. Because... "No. It doesn't. I... thank you."
