Howdy newbies and welcome to Tumblr, it takes a bit of setup to get this site running well so here’s what works for me. One of the neat things about this site is that its a different experience for everyone, so tailor these settings towards what you want from this site.
New XKit
heres gonna be a short tutorial on how to turn off tumblr showing your likes and follows
While tumblr shows these by default, unlike twitter you can turn them off whenever you want. It's pretty common to have these hidden, and Tumblr has a more more privacy centered culture then Twitter. So if you want them off, here's how to do that! Its super simple but I just want people to know its an option.
if you click on the person icon in the top right corner, it brings up a drop down menu, which you can then navigate down until you see your blog. Click "edit appearance"
Then, in your blog settings, just scroll down until you see these two options and turn em off! Super simple!
Enjoy not having people know you like 50 pokemon posts in a row, lol.
hey new users! I have a suggestion for ya.
Tumblr has had a problem with bots that have completely blank blogs following people, so if you’re new, just change your icon to something (it can be anything! Just something unique!) and add something to your bio like “hi Im new here, just following people”
You’re gonna be a lot less likely to be confused as a bot and blocked by people you admire!
sometimes I like ocs that burn your eyes
How do i best support artists on tumblr?
the best ways to support artists on tumblr, besides stuff like buying commissions, is to just reblog there stuff!
Tumblr doesn't really have an algorithm (or at least, not a good one) so most of people's dashboard is just a chronological timeline of everything people they follow posts or reblogs.
it means that the easiest way for an artist to grow is to be reblogged, bc that gets their art in front of a bunch of brand new eyes, everyone that follows you in fact.
I think the fact that there isnt really an algorithm on tumblr is a genuinely good thing, but it does change how you interact with the site, and the first change is that reblogging other people's work is appreciated and encouraged, as its one of the best ways of reaching new audiences.
yes, I know.
Tumblr is very different then most other social media sites. A lot of people are gonna be coming over from twitter, so I’m making an offer towards all good faith new users:
If you have any sort of question about tumblr, whether its about how it works, site etiquette, or anything else you might be confused about: Shoot me an ask or dm! I’m here to help you get on your feet.
