Man, I’m kind of bummed out that the best resources for deer anatomy and body language are all on hunting sites. I mean, it makes sense, but it’s still kind of disorienting to be reading along and then have a description end with like, “…so if you see the buck’s ears do that, stay still and keep your gear from making noise”. I’m not crouching in the grass with a compound bow, I’m just an artist! I just want to draw a bunch of fake fictional deer and deer-adjacent creatures, not put on some forest camo and hunt me a Big Antler Boy or w/e in real life!!

Y'know I've watched a lot of movies with children who get powers or go on adventures and do dumb shit and face tragedy and all but oh boy... Look at this child, guys. Never before has a movie made me feel like this so viscerally. This is a child. A CHILD. A babey. He's going through so much. Kids should never have to go through so much.

I’ve had enough “boy falls in love with girl” redemption arcs. Give me “bad guy to dad guy.” Give me “villain’s favorite bakery has a ‘no villains’ policy and they had really good croissants so they reformed.” Give me “got bored, accidentally did something good, stumbled into being city’s greatest hero” type villains. Give me “villain worked for evil assassin agency, got their marks mixed up, accidentally killed bad guy instead of good guy, lol oops nothing left to do but switch sides” villains. Give me unconventional, fresh, and sometimes cheesy redemption arcs.

Didn’t realize I was making a life commitment when I picked up my first Brandon Sanderson novel
things i did that forced me to be a better artist:
used a reference for everything
thinner line art (you think thats thin? go thinner….)
sketch, then do a cleaner sketch, THEN start finalizing
THUMBNAILS
color research, picking a set palette or light/dark for each work
you like that pose? redo it one more time
USE A DAMN REFERENCE
do not rely on stylization as an excuse for anatomy
draw the goddamn background you coward
just draw the hand- a bad hand is better than a hidden hand
the rule of thirds WORKS
take a considerable break between sketch and lines/paint
know that art takes longer as you get better at it
draw the seams on clothes
stop aiming for accuracy and focus on fluidity and motion, accuracy will come with practice of those two concepts
just…do the chiaroscuro. just DO IT. no excuses it always works
stop making excuses, make yourself an art schedule/set weekly(or daily) art goals and just DO IT.
