Oooo, fic idea - I'll probably never work on it lol
If Killer and Murder gets replaced when they die, what about Swap?
Since he is one of the ones fighting Nightmare and the others, and is not like Ink and Dream, wouldn’t he get killed pretty easily? Going up a bunch of homicidal skeletons doesn’t seem like anyone would have a high survival rate.
If Dream does replace Swap, wouldn’t that make Dream a lot like Nightmare in a way, even if he doesn’t want to admit it and saying it’s different?
However, If Swap never got replaced before and is still alive, if he does die, would Dream try to replace him?
Actually, Swap is very much more than capable of handling MTT on his own without Dream’s or Ink’s help
To put it simply, Swap has Papyrus’ stats, he has Papyrus like skills, he’s absolutely capable on his own without anyone’s help, and when it comes to mortality, Swap is mortal in comparison to Ink and Dream yes, but he isn’t the only one who is very much killable
Dream can get killed too just like Swap despite his “immortality”, I put immortality in quotes because Dream is immortal in the sense that he can’t die from aging, but he can very much be killed by Nightmare (other people than Nightmare can’t kill Dream… unless they understand his one fatal weakness)
But in the end, both Dream and Swap can be killed, Ink is the only one that can never truly be killed, he can metaphorically “die” when his body is torn to shreds, but he can easily just get back to the living after, his “death” is never permanent
So in reality, except for Ink, none of the stars have high survival rate at all going against homicidal skeletons to begin with, it’s not a Swap specific thing
Swap is a really skilled fighter, and is the one who taught Dream a lot of the basics he uses today, I’d say he’s even the most skilled out of the Stars as a whole in reality, much more skilled than Dream, and Ink isn’t at all good at fighting really
I’d say the one that truly gives Swap a bit of trouble, as in, Swap needs to truly keep an eye out for is Killer, cause he and Killer have a bit of a history, it doesn’t mean Swap can never face trouble against Murder or Horror, but it’s a lot less likely
So no, Swap’s not at all easy to kill, hence why I say Nightmare sees him as a genuine threat to him, had he actually been easy to kill, then he wouldn’t have survived that long at all
But if Swap actually died, then no, Dream wouldn’t replace him, in fact, it’ll absolutely destroy Dream mentally and emotionally
Dream has a bit of an unhealthy attachment to Swap, not unhealthy in the sense that is “Nightmare is obsessed with Killer” but more “I’m placing my entire mental and emotional health on the existence of this blue skeleton that I see as a sibling because I am in desperate need to fill the void in my chest where my actual sibling used to be, he’s the only true anchor I have in my life, if this skeleton disappeared one day, I will not know what to do with myself or know how to navigate life without him, please never go somewhere I can never reach”
So if Swap died for any reason, Dream will probably completely break down mentally, he’s placing his entire mental and emotional health upon the existence of Swap, he’s extremely clingy to him, he wouldn’t know what to do with himself if Swap died, something that Swap is actually trying to teach Dream to find actual healthy outlets for instead of placing his entire mental health upon him
So in summary, no, Swap never died going against the Nightmares, and no, Dream will never replace him if he actually dies, Dream will be too busy picking up falling pieces of himself losing his second sibling the same way he did when he lost his first sibling
