Want to join Project LUMEN as a UI artist?

In case you don’t know, project LUMEN is an in-development indie game adaption of the Life series, a Minecraft YouTube series created by Grian. Featuring a full RPG experience: battles, a branching timeline with limitless choices, custom and unique visuals from our talented team of artists and, of course, lore: there's a path for everyone to take.

During this second application round, a new position has opened, *drum roll* UI artists! 

A quick debriefing about UI, it stands for user interface, meaning that you are going to be the ones behind what the players see when playing the game, menus, prompts, all that good stuff. Are you like Grian and cannot help yourself when it comes to buttons? Well, this is the position for you! You will make plenty of buttons, trust me.

If you wish to apply, there are a couple of things to keep in mind, of course: first, it is preferred that you have at least a bit of knowledge when it comes to pixel art and how to animate sprites, since that is the artstyle the game will rely on. Second, you will be working closely alongside the Big Boss as he codes. He’ll work on the game’s skeleton while you craft its skin. There exist concept sketches of how menus will look like, if you want some guidance, but you can do whatever you want if you so desire.

This is a very exclusive job, just so you know. You will have the most fun. Definitely. We are looking for 1 or 2 people to fill this role, so, if you want to apply, do it quickly! Come make buttons! So make sure to apply when applications come out on the 30th of april, and get in before they close on the 20th of may!

Heyy project lumen team, figured I’d ask here instead of the discord because I ask enough questions there already T^T

Because according to the newsletter the wonderful team working on this project has 18 character artists, does this mean that that role is full and there’ll most likely be no more character artist applications?

If that’s the case somewhere along the way I must have misunderstood how you’re going about character art and that is entirely my fault. ;w;

Even if character art isn’t available I may still fill out an application to be a background artist, who knows. Hope you guys would potentially consider me even if backgrounds aren’t my area of expertise :>

Hi hi! Thanks for the question, and no worries, we love answering them! >:3

As of now, character artist positions are full. We already have people taking care of each of the Lifer's talking sprites [these will appear along text boxes and some cutscenes!]. However, there is always the possibility we need extra assets for loading screens, or other menus, and, personally, I'd love to open applications for those too, to have lots of different art styles and let as many people as possible take part in the project, one can only hope.

Long story short, only time will tell, but as of this application round, character artist positions are all full.

Project LUMEN: APPLICATIONS ROUND 2 OPENING SOON!!!!

As you can see on our lovely lil poster (made by @pinkish29) we're opening applications for the next round on the 30th of April! The period the apps are open will be for nearly three weeks (ending on May 20th) to give anyone plenty of time to apply. See below the Project Lumen banner for more info on the roles we have open!

Have you ever wanted to know what the life series would look like as a video game? Well we've got the answer for you! Project Lumen is an RPG-like game revolving around all the series of the life smp, with twists and turns, multiple storylines that can possible diverge from the 'canon' timeline. There will be mini games, quests related to each episode of a season, and much more!

Here's a basic rundown of what we're doing:

You, the player, are introduced as the Watcher Child (WC for short. They're the character in the poster above!). You are an apprentice within the Watchers, and your job is to follow and guide the champions chosen by the Watchers themselves through challenges and enemies. Featuring unique leveling systems, DnD inspired classes, and, most importantly, the ability to impact the story with the choices you make… because, after experiencing all the Life Series seasons from both the Watcher and the Player side, maybe you’ll have a change of mind. After all is said and done and seen, the world is yours to shape, Watcher Child.

We are looking for both writers and background artists!

Writers will be in charge of helping getting the script together, creating dialogue and helping create both canon timelines and alternate timelines. Your job is to make the world real through the characters, the story, and the world. You don't need script writing experience though, you'll be given opportunities to learn if you're selected. We're just looking for those willing to learn and dedicate time towards this beautiful game!

Background artists, which are the most awesome people ever you should really become a background artist, will create the backgrounds for things like fights and loading screens. It's your job to mold the world of the life series for this project. You get to draw things like the Secret keeper from secret life, the relation-ship from double life, the forest burning and the desert deserting in third life, and everything in between!

Please keep in mind this project is a long-term project that takes many months to complete. The workload, though, is extremely manageable and everyone currently working on it is having a blast!

If you have any questions at all, give us a shout (an ask)! We'll be extremely happy to answer any questions, especially of what it's actually like creating for this project (it's awesome), because we're already partway through third life.

i am shrunken down and brought to the gnome world and when i attempt to assimilate to their culture I use an acorn cap as a hat and they all laugh cheerfully at my silly mistake of wearing what they use as a bowl like a cap and though this is a transgression that would have humiliated me in my human life I am instead laughing alongside them at my humorous misunderstanding

Got an idea for a fic where X loses his memory and gets found by Ex, who he thinks is someone he used to trust. Ex keeps up the ruse because there's so much damage he can do to the server like this, but is quickly thrown off by X treating him like a loved one. For the first time someone's acting like they love him, and he pushes back his plans, telling themself that he'll do them later. But the longer X stays the less they want to hurt people, leading to them resolving to keep a simple life with the two of them. And then X starts regaining his memories, and Ex is sweating in the background because he knows that the moment X remembers who he is, all of this is going to fall apart and he'll go back to having nothing.

The Clock Cafe

Allegedly run by one of the oldest crime families in the country as a money laundering front, the Clock Cafe is well-loved for its affordable drinks and signature decorated cakes — the icing designs are exquisite, and they can be yours for the low, low price of your shoes. Presently across the street from the Bad Boys Bakery, though the Clock Cafe was here first. 

Cleo [last name unknown]: Single mother of two rambunctious adult sons, she mainly handles the back-end work of the cafe and is rarely seen at the front. Her hostility towards the Bad Boys is more due to Grian’s effect on Scar than anything else. Suspected to have blackmail material on the rest of the underground, though she’s clearly not above bending the rules herself. Cleo has definitely not committed tax evasion, and any reports of necromancy are simply because she’s a great enjoyer of Halloween.  Scar Goodtimes [that cannot possibly be his real name]: Barista, cashier, and face of the Clock Cafe, Scar is easily the most recognisable owner. He shares the work of making the cafe’s iconic cakes with his brother and is always waiting at the counter to serve customers with a smile. He also has a crush on Grian, the grumpy baker from across the street, but he's being very subtle about it no matter what Bdubs says. Bdubs wouldn't know subtlety if it hit him in the face, anyway — Scar knows this because someone taped the word ‘subtle’ to their oven doors the other day. Scar also updates his reputation board daily. No one's quite sure what it means. Bdoubleo “Bdubs” Onehundred [I beg your pardon?]: Resident baker at the Clock Cafe, Bdubs is the reason for the frankly ridiculous collection of clocks and watches that covers the walls of the cafe. His eye for piping is unmatched, and also black and blue from hitting himself in the face with an oven door. Bdubs can usually be found either working on his next masterpiece, yelling affirmations at his plants so they grow better, or sleeping on the closest horizontal surface. 

The Clock Cafe is a beloved family-owned business situated in the heart of the city. Come in and relax with a lovely hot chocolate, or admire the towering cathedrals that are, in fact, cake. We only accept cash. Stop by soon, and have a great day!
