MASTERPOST (for the full series / FAQ / reference sheets)
Looking back at DR talent development there's really some interesting introduction between some characters, my favorite one so far is makoto and tsumugi, i never thought this two will some interesting dialogs here
And the funniest thing here is that tsumugi is the one who noticed that makoto is the ultimate hope and not nagito, you know the one who keeps yapping about hope😭
Get ready for a heart attack!!!

Thrilled to announce my first-ever Zine collaboration!
I recently joined Danganronpa Zine Club on Discord and had a chance to participate in Cover Album: An Ibuki Fanzine! For this zine, each artist redesigned an album cover featuring Ibuki. Here is my piece for the zine inspired by Florence + the Machine's "Dance Fever".
Looking forward to posting more of my work with these creative and talented people in the future!

not sure how much it counts as controversial, but the bit at the end of DR3 where the Remnants take the blame for the killing game has always rubbed me the wrong way. Not just because of personal beliefs about information, but also because in that very same anime, we see Junko blackmailing people and HPA trying to cover up their mistakes. If anyone finds out the truth about the kg, they’re screwed. Felt like it went against the theme a bit.
Yeah actually I would say this is the opposite of controversial simply because I don't think I've ever met or seen a danganronpa fan who thinks dr3 was incredible. I don't hate dr3 nearly as much as I've seen other hate it, but I have a very strong love-hate relationship with it. Especially for Future.
But I can totally understand having beef with that particular ending. (In fact I have issues with most of the Hope arc) All three of the main games, even the pessimistic one, have a theme of facing the truth no matter how awful. So it is a bit strange for danganronpa to hide the truth when the core theme has always been to expose it. I can understand the world not being ready but...it felt unnecessary. Because The Future Foundation needs to be completely rebuilt anyway. All but three leaders of the FF are dead, and one of them just kinda walked away to do who knows what. The FF is also incredibly corrupt and terribly built. There IS no need to save it by taking the blame because it's already dead by the end of the anime.
Soo... this probably wont get any attention but i dont want it to get lost between all the other ideas in my head-
As someone who's least favourite game is Goodbye Despair (shocking, right? I almost got doxxed on tiktok for this.) One of the many reasons why i dont like it is the atmosphere. In THH, the students are trapped in a school. Windows and doors are completely shut with metal plates, as we know. It creates a really claustrophobic atmosphere and makes it feel actually like a scary situation. Like, just imagine the dark halls of an empty school at night. During a killing game. Creepy.
In v3, we have another school. This time the windows and doors are not closed off. They have a huge garden, and some other buildings in it. But what makes it feel, again, claustrophobic is the huge dome/cage thing over them. Also, i think it fits so much with the "its actually fiction" plotline, like its not claustrophobic in the traditional sense. I think you'd feel less trapped, but more small and insignificant.
But in Goodbye Despair, i just dont get the same "trapped" feeling. Yes, they are in an island. They cant go anywhere. Except its a much bigger area than the other two, and definitely more comfortable. Though the "creepy" aspect still exists, due to island being abandoned. So, here's my alternate setting for Dr2! Of course this is just a idea, an AU of sorts... Im not trying to claim my version is better or anything lol.
What if Dr2 started in a cruise ship. It starts with class 77 on their way to the jabberwock island (for rehab since they are remnants). But before they could reach the island, monokuma stops the ship in the middle of ocean and starts the killing game. I think it would be scarier at night and more claustrophobic than an island. Since its in the middle of ocean, they could add a rule like "you cant kill a student by throwing them to the water" And someone will exploit the rule by throwing a dead body to the water. The cons of my idea is that chapter 4 wouldnt exist, which is one of my favourite chapters/trials in the whole series. And maybe Nagito bombing the hotel(?) In chapter 5 would be...uh..tricky. because if he bombs somewhere in the ship, it could start sinking. Actually, thats interesting too. The ship starts sinking, very slowly. So during chapter 5 and 6 they are racing with time. And the game ends with makoto, kyoko, togami coming to save them in little boats.
Oh I’m a sucker for content about Makoto perpetuating the cycle that caused the apocalypse in the first place because it’s whats been expected of him and taught to him, like at the end of dr3 anime how he becomes the principal of the same establishment that did HORRIFIC human experimentation and perpetuated a system that crushed anyone deemed ordinary under its weight. The school ends up taking no blame for its very real and intensely horrific acts because they simply blame despair for it, so of course now that the Ultimate Hope is running it that means all the despair is gone and now Hope will happily shine again. Neatly sweeping under the rug the covered up murders and torture done in the name of that hope before. It wasn’t the system, it was a few wildcards, trust the system Makoto, it’s all you’ve been told works isn’t it? Society has to have Hope’s Peak Makoto, the two are one in the same isn’t it?
In the end his title of Hope and the expectations forces him into the same blindfold of “for hope” that allowed Izuru to exist. All he knows and really is allowed to know thanks to future foundation is that he is Hope and has to make more Hope and that as such Hope’s Peak must exist as a symbol of that Hope. Which is why when I write post danganronpa 3 content and acknowledge the canon of “he principal now” I have characters who actively oppose and fight against the re-installment of such a system because it’s just such a bad idea but the propaganda and hope worship is so intense Makoto doesn’t even consider how it might not be a good idea.
Hope and Despair are just so entwined you cannot be an ultimate hope without understanding and being able to use ultimate despair. The two concepts are so twisted together that Junko can cause massive hope if she chooses (ie warriors of hope) and Makoto can create great despair (accidentally letting a second killing game happen thanks to his illegal terrorist rehabilitation program) not to mention hope to one is despair to another, and there really is no way of predicting which way the pendulum will point to until after the act of potential hope OR despair is taken. Ultimate Hope? Ultimate Despair? The talents are one in the same at the end of the day. Anyone deemed to be an Ultimate Hope is one thought of “greater good” away from the next Tragedy. Makoto is no different, and the system will inevitably push his morals to that point if no one intervenes.

Blah blah blah I wanna help my cousin this, I wanna help Monaca that. If your words are genuine why not joined despair Miaya? It could be fun, plus I don't think you'll win her over by apealing to her "morals" is gonna help you.
Yeah, right? You're basically already there at this point.
Back up a minute. You said something about "my" method of brainwashing?
Yeah with your thingie. The...New Universe Simulation or whatever?
That's not true at all...! The Neo World Program doesn't brainwash people, it undoes brainwashing!
Hmmm, are you sure? Brainwashing in its simplest terms, is making someone change their personality to your liking. And isn't that what you did to the Remnants? You didn't like them being Despair so you changed them?
What?! You have no idea what you're talking about! It was designed as a psychotherapeutic simulator to undo trauma and triggering memories for the users! That's exactly why we used it on the Remnants of Despair!
.....Okay Auntie, let's play a little game here.
Let's say for instance, the Remnants of Despair weren't brainwashed. And that Big Sis Junko just merely...talked them into becoming the big bad terrorists you know them as today. Would you still use the program for them anyway?
Well....yes, but-
But why? They're not under some mind control or order from others. They would be fully cognizant of their actions. Morals and all. There'd be no way to know for certain what those guys would be thinking.
To that end, let's go further. Who would you use this on? Serial killers? Predators? Embezzlers? Gang members? Other terrorists? Where does it end?
You'd be replacing other people's already preconception of ideals and making them have new ones to better fit your image! See? Brainwashing! Plain and simple~
They have a term for this sort of thing. I think it's called...Death of Personality.
And I get a feeling, you'd want to use this on me too, huh? Riiiiiight?
Wh-What?!
Mhmm, mhmm!~ That's why you're so adamant about getting me on your side. So you can shove me in a pod and make little old Monaca a "proper" little girl. My my, even you want to use Monaca too for your own purposes, Auntie!~
Listen to yourself, that is absurd! I...would never....do something like that to you-
So say it.
!
Go ahead. Say you never had the thought. Say you'd tell me everything about my past life, and all about Big Sis Junko in that case. Go on. Lie to my face.
I.....I wouldn't.....

Monaca: Ahahahahahaha!
'The 'Remnants of Hope' are considered the last remaining of the sane Hopes Peak Academy students that are not in our care. It is this foundations mission to find and extract this miniature squadron from danger. We assume one of the lower level windows panelling was more rusted than initially thought before it had been fixed for the 'Killing Game'. These teenagers could be one of our last chances. Do not let their blood ridden figures lead to a violent encounter. They are simply surviving the best they can in that war zone.
Owari Akane:
Ultimate: Gymnast
Height: 5"9
Weight: 59kg/123lbs
Age: 17
Based on current cameras we have managed to reprogram for our purpose, Akane is plenty violent and makes up for a lack of proper critical thinking skills with her inane durability. She has no visible loss of body parts unlike her current compatriots, yet is littered with scars. Mainly more akin to a bear claw. Her strength is not to be questioned, in her files, the only people who have beaten her on hand to hand are Oogami Sakura and Nidai Nekomaru.
Sonia Nevermind
Ultimate: Princess
Height: 5"8
Weight: 50kg/110lbs
Age: 16
Additional Information - Home Country - Novoselic
Based on our surveillance, Sonia seems to be the least physically violent. She will adorn a weapon every once in a while and bear no fear in stepping in for her compatriots. This loyalty has resulted in the loss of her right arm from just below her elbow. She has sustained a temporary knee injury, slightly altering her ability to break into full sprint, this does not seem to bring her down. Her high spirits had made her a defacto leader and planner.
Souda Kazuichi
Ultimate: Mechanic
Height: 5"6
Weight: 64kg/141lbs
Age: 17
By far, this one is the least violent. From our surveillance, verbally, he's a menace. Otherwise he's secluded. His few attempts at heroism have had him majorly injured, losing his left leg from mid thigh down and almost complete loss of feeling in his right ankle. Don't underestimate the smarts. While brash verbally, he can build up a gun along with ammo and use it as quick as need be. He does not move now unless it's unquestionably needed.
Kuzuryu Fuyuhiko
Ultimate: Yakuza
Height: 5"1
Weight: 43kg/94lbs
Age: 16
Don't be fooled by his height or baby face. If his name rings a bell that's because it should. While one of the two destined to be a leader one day, he leaves it to the princess in exchange for more of a ranged amount of violence. Keeping range with mainly guns and ammo made by the mechanic has resulted in him being hurt the least, but he has lost an eye due to a rogue 'Remnant of Despair'. Which one is the culprit is unknown as of now.
We have trust you can extract these four safely and put them in the secure hands of the 'Killing Game' survivors. Or more, our hands.
Good luck.

Monaca: Ahahahahahaha!
Akane, I know it wouldn't help saying that...you were brainwashed and you didn't know what you were doing nor could you stop. But...they probably know that it wasn't really you in control. At least, you wouldn't do that on normal circumstances.
Bwaaaaaahhh! *hic, hic* Bwaaaaahh!
--------------------------------
...................
It's okay. Let it all out Akane, let it alllll out...
------------------------
*hic*......*hic*....*sniff*......
------------------------------
Does it feel good? To finally let all that out? Not only your memory as a remnant, but the trauma and hardships you had to endure at such a young age?
-----------------------------
*sniff, sniff* A....A bit....?
---------------------------
Good.
Now, it is important to remember that that wasn't really you.
---------------------------
But...But it was me-
------------------------------
Not it wasn't. That was only to brainwashed monster that Junko had infected to do her bidding just as the rest of your friends.
You've told me about yourself Akane. How you did everything in your power just to ensure the safety and protection of your younger siblings. How you tried to stop Monokuma all by yourself. And how you griefed when Nekomaru was taken from you...
That is you, Akane. A kind, selfless woman who will do anything to protect her friends and family.
While it can be said that you shouldn't do that all the time, as your life is just as precious...
But those traits are what define you as...you. The real you....and I'm sure your siblings know that as well.
The road ahead may be dangerous and filled with thorns, but I believe you can be up to the task. To try and live for their stake.
---------------------------
........................*Akane wipes her face*
Yeah.....yeah I....think you're right....Thank Miss Miaya....
------------------------------
You're welcome Akane.
okay but also.
i hate the neo world program. i hate the idea of it so much. i hate that their way to save people is to just cut out two-three years of memories, download them into a video game, and then save over those memories once they're better people.
and maybe this is because i come at this from having n2n as one of my favorite musicals where part of let's fix the mentally ill person is by electroshock therapy that WHOOPS caused them to lose their memories and then her husband's like you know what let's not tell her about the thing that we think caused the mental illness and then everything will be good! and great! and wonderful!
and i hate it.
because makoto + co. are making the same assumption nagito does, which is that now that they're remnants they are beyond saving in their current form so we're just going to regress them and cut all of that out of them and give them a reboot so they become the people we want them to be.
and, like, yes, we learn that the remnants agreed to this so they could try to bring junko back in them, which. you know. (is actually really funny when you think about nagito like if we bring junko back, maybe i get to kill her this time and then he's one of the dead people she would be coming back in, like, sorry, nagito, you'd literally become the person you hate the most.)
but makoto + co. didn't know that. they just forced them into these machines and wiped their memories without their consent and just. went from there. and the game suggests this is a good thing. because that's therapy! and dealing with trauma! to forcibly remove years of memory from your life!
it just makes me so uncomfortable. so uncomfortable.
and makoto's oh, i added a fail safe because i knew something would probably go wrong doesn't make it any better because that doesn't address the core issue. i just. i don't understand how people didn't tell them that this was wrong - or that they didn't realize that this was wrong - especially after having their own memories torn from them. (memories that! they had help! recovering! by the way!)
Deku's first day on the job is going great
