The fact that pro hero Katsuki doesn't give a fuck about the rankings anymore means that it was always about Izuku.

He just wants to compete with Izuku; it's all he cares about and always has.

Nothing really means anything if Izuku is not by his side.

That's why he spent eight years saving money for that hero suit and making sure every piece of it was perfect for Izuku.

Okay so rereading the ending now that it’s officially translated, it’s kinda grown on me. Yes it is bittersweet, yes it is kinda rushed, but it’s realistic.

When you get older, it becomes very hard to hang out with your friends all the time, you have different dreams and day to day lives. Class 1A aren’t kids anymore, they don’t go to school together everyday, they are all trying to race after their own ambitions. But that doesn’t take away from how much they care about each other.

I love how Ochaca made the “quirk expansion project”, it just shows how much the people you meet can impact you. She made the program for toga and all of those that they couldn’t reach their hand out in time to help. The program is highly successful and has helped bring the villain rate down by getting to the root of the problem before it starts. Eri is becoming a musician because of how much class 1A influenced her by their concert. She didn’t become a hero just because she’s powerful, she just followed her dream. Shoto finally was recognized as his own hero, not just endeavors son. He’s making a name for himself and is shooting to the top of the pro hero board. Then in an ironic twist, bakagou is the only person that can stop bakagou. He gets a video leaked of him yelling at a civilian which makes him go farther down on the hero board. But he doesn’t care. Then we find out what he’s been doing the past 8 years.

Class 1A had been saving up (with bakagou at the heart of it) for a hero suit for Izuku. They had all been putting time and money into helping him finally have his dream back. They have always cared about him and I think that’s the most beautiful way to show it.

Bakagou reaches out his hand and calls him Deku. Not defenseless Izuku but Izuku the hero. The story starts with them and ends with them. The development with their relationship is everything to me. Izuku taught bakagou what it means to truly be a hero and bakagou was right there waiting for him when they were finally ready to be heros together.

The ending wasn’t what I expected but the more I read, the more I start to love it. Horikoshi is trying to tell us that even if we can’t fulfill our dreams, the people around us will be there for you when you’re ready to try again. We are so heavily influenced by the people in our lives. Even if they are only here for a short time, they can still impact us. And it’s our job to help the people around us by just reaching out a hand.

Yes, this is about All Might and Katsuki's dream to be the best hero, but it's also about one of his happiest memories with Izuku.

He carries that card with him all the time, even into battle because of what it means to him.

Despite telling himself he wanted to keep Izuku at arm's length, he never threw the card away, and he never asked Izuku to stop calling him "Kacchan"

He always wanted to be as close to Izuku as he was in that moment.

That's what he truly wants, what he yearns for.

You cannot tell me he doesn't love Midoriya Izuku. There's so much yearning in the soft way he says, Izuku.

Katsuki in love. There are no other thoughts inside that head, only Izuku.

He is dying, and he only cares about Izuku. He is dying, and he mourns the loss of a future with Izuku.

This Katsuki is already thinking about "for the rest of our lives" with Izuku.

This poor little gay boy made sure they put him in the same team as his Izuku for the final battle because there was a tiny part of his brain that probably thought "I might not make it, but I'll be with Izuku until the very end."

But Izuku is not there, and Katsuki cannot bear the thought of spending his finally moments without him, so he talks to him as if he's there. He pretends Izuku is there with him.

A romantic confession during an emotional breakdown isn’t and shouldn’t be considered a legitimate one and it absolutely shouldn’t be considered romantic. Also, Horikoshi has a trend of making us think he’s gonna portray a basic shonen trope and then doing the exact opposite. He gave us villains that we couldn’t help but feel compassion for. Complex, traumatized children that we wanted to help and then… dabi is alive but suffering without even being able to move, twice was killed, toga sacrificed herself and Shigaraki died without ever being free. i don't like the growing opinion that people are being 'too hard' on deku for his failing to save shigaraki.

i've seen quite a few people complaining that a lot of the bnha-critical crowd are being too mean to deku for getting tomura killed, arguing that it isn't really his fault, and that hes a 16 year old child soldier who's been failed by almost every adult in his life, why should we be putting all of this on his shoulders? hes just a kid after all?

and the truth is, they're right. deku IS a 16 year old boy whos had the fate of the world thrust on his shoulders. but the story itself just plainly refuses to acknowledge this.

the narrative doesn't acknowledge how fucked up having a school that trains literal children how to be combo cop-celebrities is. it only tentatively acknowledges the fact that a universe having combo cop-celebrities is fucked up, and even then the only people who ever point this out are antagonists, who are portrayed and treated in-universe as untrustworthy. the narrative doesn't care how fucked up dekus circumstances are. the narrative treats deku like hes a fucking messiah here to touch the hearts of the evil depressed villains with his magical empathetic heart of gold before they get blown up or just sent to fucking superhell for daring to challenge the status quote.

deku isn't a person. he's barely even a fucking character at this point. he's a plot device, and a mouth piece for the objectively shitty themes bnha is trying to spout. the themes that tell you that if you're mistreated by society and want to do something about it, you're a villain. that disrupting the status quote and refusing to repent to some random teenage boy spouting empty platitudes at you means you deserve to get sent to fucking superhell. the themes that portray people fighting for civil change as mass murdering supervillains. the themes that look the audience dead in the eye and can call deku the greatest hero to ever live.

deku, who barely spared a second thought to lady nagant telling him the truth about the hero commission. who spouts meaningless platitudes about heroism and morality at nagant, and aoyama, and toga and shigaraki, when even the thought that he should question the world around him comes up. who's constantly talked about as this truly kind, empathetic person, but hasn't spared an empathetic thought to literally anyone who is classified as a villain. who listened to every authority figure around him except the ones who asked him to question his worldview. who saw la bravas tears, shigarakis various breakdowns, himikos plead for understanding, chisakis catatonic state, lady nagants truth, and barley batted a fucking eye. deku, who killed tomura shigaraki.

people don't criticize deku for failing shigaraki because they just hate deku. people criticize deku because of what he represents. because hes a mouthpiece for the atrocious morals and themes of this ideologically rotten manga. because any character he had was chopped up to bits in favor of the incomplete husk we have now. people criticize deku because hes the main character of my hero academia. theres nothing more damning then that.
