I like to think Arthur didn’t really know Alfred as well as he likes to claim. He was away most of the time getting milk, and probably missed a lot of important moments in Alfred’s life that shaped him. He knew everything about America, but he didn’t know anything about Alfred.
And Alfred was the other way around. He always wanted to know what was going on with Arthur, hear as many stories as he could, talk to people who had talked to Arthur himself. Alfred didn’t care about England, he only wanted to know more about the man he called big brother.
Both of them think they know each other inside and out. And both of them are incredibly wrong. They never really KNEW each other. One didn’t take enough time to learn, and the other made up epic fantasies about the other.
They don’t know what’s real and what’s not between them.
