California wildfire threatens 1,000 homes
NBCLA: California’s Powerhouse wildfire grew overnight to 19,500 acres and now threatens around 1,000 homes. The fire has already destroyed six homes and damaged nine other buildings.
The fire is currently at 20% containment and officials hope to have it fully contained by Wednesday. 2,000 firefighters are fighting to stop the fire’s spread.

Epic Encounter: Giant Squid and Sperm Whale
In what is one of the most dramatic dioramas in the Museum, a giant squid is caught in the sperm whale’s mouth, its tentacles grasping at the whale’s head, which is actually an oversized snout.
The sperm whale and giant squid diorama in the Irma and Paul Milstein Family Hall of Ocean Life is now celebrating the 10th anniversary of a masterful renovation.

Hundreds of people join protest at Taksim’s Gezi Park: “Hundreds of people joined protestors who have been camping for the past three days in Taksim’s Gezi Park to stand guard against the demolition of the park’s walls and the uprooting of trees, in act of solidarity with activists after leaving their workplaces in the afternoon.”
Protestors have called on Istanbulus (the residents of Istanbul) to take off work tomorrow and meet them in Gezi Park.
