Back in Vault 13, he was a well respect doctor. Sure he was a bit withdrawn and awkward but that just how he is...

But that was just a facade to cover up years of trauma inflection on him from his uncle at a young age which has become a shameful secret in the vault. But everything he went through now seems like childplay now in the wasteland.
