Daphne was excited to finally learn how to play the piano. Her father was an excellent pianist, along with her aunt Violet along with Varina and Vera. Music was literally in her blood, it was how her mother fell in love with her father and how her father paid the bills. Henry Lopez was a world class musician before he transitioned to producing music. Some of Daphne’s earliest memories were seeing concerts, watching Varina and Vera flourish in piano, and watching Henry and Violet play music together, before Henry moved out and never spoke to Violet again. It was expected for Daphne to be another musician, especially by her father. Daphne could feel him pulling away from her, so she couldn’t fail or mess this up. Daphne took a deep breath, steeled her nerves, and walked through the door. 

A couple of months later, Daphne knew she was completely out of her league. She practiced for hours after class every day, but she was still the worst in her class by far. Her fingers couldn’t move quick enough and she always seemed to forget where the notes were, no matter how many times everyone seemed to tell her. She could see her teacher sigh, out of the corner of her eye, as she walked into the classroom. She waved to Vallen, a star student and brother of Vera and Varina, and sat down next to her teacher. When she started playing, she could feel the waves of judgment from her teacher and the pain of all the other students, suffering through her ‘music’. Daphne was red from embarrassment and could feel everyone else’s eyes on her, wondering what she was doing on the piano. 

After Daphne’s lesson was finished, she waited on the curb for her father to pick her up. He didn’t even look at her as she climbed into the front seat and just started driving, pointedly ignoring her. Henry didn’t think Daphne was trying hard enough in piano and viewed it as sheer laziness. “I just wish you would be more like Allison, she was playing in concerts at your age. I’m disappointed in you, Daphne” Henry told her as he drove down the highway. Daphne didn’t respond, she couldn’t convince him that she was trying either way. Daphne could see that Allison was coming up more and more recently. They had never met, but her dad seemed to really be in love. Daphne wanted to be happy for him and she was, but the feeling of abandonment was getting stronger every time Allison came up and the chasm between them only widened. Daphne stared out the window until her father pulled up to the Varmitech Industries building, where Daphne would be spending the night while her mother worked. Henry was supposed to spend the night, just the two of them, but he decided that he instead wanted to go with Allison, causing Donita to frantically text Zach, asking if he would be able to watch Daphne. Daphne was excited to spend time with the Varmitechs, she really was, but she couldn’t help but feel the familiar twinge of disappointment that her father had let her down again, something that seemed to be getting more and more common. Daphne sighed and started walking towards the building, feeling like a burden.

Violet was disappointed in Henry. She could tell that Daphne was upset that he didn’t spend the night, and frankly so was Violet. She was always happy to watch Daphne, viewing her almost as another daughter, but was annoyed by the extremely short notice and complete lack of acknowledgement from Henry. Once upon a time, they were playing music and singing together, but then Henry and Donita got divorced. Violet was upset about the way that Henry chose to handle the news and felt bad for her friend, but was more surprised by Henry never reaching out to them. She sent a few texts to him in the beginning, asking how he was and that she was always there if he wanted to talk, but he never responded. Violet felt disappointed in Henry, yet again, he had thrown away years of friendship and kinship, never speaking to Violet again after the divorce. He even seemed to actively avoid her, never looking her in the eye, something Violet definitely noticed and did not approve of. Henry seemed to be disappointing in every category recently, he was a bad husband, friend, and seemingly father. Violet sighed and opened the door as Daphne walked through the elevator doors, wanting to be the parental figure Daphne deserved.

They’re so cute!!! I feel like Daphne and Angelica would be kindred spirits (the would be total glam queens together). I love their looks, you did a great job with their designs and expressions @lovelybakerandconstructionworker !!

I’ve mentioned it before, but I headcanon that Donita may have been in a toxic relationship in the past, and my OC Violet was in a toxic relationship prior to Zach…I also kind of think this might have been a possibility for Paisley’s past too…So, I imagine karaoke night with the villain girls: Donita, Violet, Paisley, Yssa (the oc of the wonderful @lovelybakerandconstructionworker ) goes something like this:

Daphne Feels Insecure

Daphne wondered one night, not for the first time, why couldn’t she be more like the Varmitechs? They had their lives together and were doing more than she was. Daphne knows comparison is hard but it's difficult when Vera, who is barely older than Daphne, is an incredible musician with a 4.0 GPA along with being in varsity ballet and gymnastics, somehow maintained a cheerful attitude, and was so gorgeous. Vera was everything that Daphne wanted to be and wasn’t, and while she would never admit it, she was extremely jealous of her. Vera didn’t have perceivable flaws, at least according to Daphne. She was jealous of the entire Varmitech family, they seemed to have something that Daphne didn’t and would never have. Every sibling was so unique and good at what they did and truly cared about it and each other. Daphne was even jealous of the Varmitech parents. She knew why her parents had to get divorced, but missed the unity and strength that Violet and Zach project. Everyone around them could tell that they were deeply in love and there was no question to be had about it. Zach and Violet wer both involved in all of their children’s lives deeply, something Daphne always felt insecure about. Zach could remember tiny details of his five earthside children’s lives while her own father was struggling to remember his oldest daughter and only child with Donita’s birthday. Daphne seemed to be terrible at everything Henry was good at. The worst part for Daphne though was that all of the Varmitechs really cared about her. They incorporated her into their family vacations and spent their own free time to help her. They were impossible to hate, but Daphne was still jealous. She knew she brought important skills to the table, but they just felt so mediocre and terrible compared to the talents everyone else had. Daphne knew it was normal to feel insecure, but also felt guilty for feeling negative thoughts towards people who changed her life so fundamentally. They were rays of sunshine in her dark clouds, and she appreciated them and all they did more than they could ever know, even when she was feeling jealous of all they had.

what is each Varmitech’s coffee/drink order?

Thank you so much for this ask! I know it took a while to get to but I hope you enjoy reading about the Varmitech Crew’s favorite drinks! I wrote descriptions for everyone’s favorite drinks “in character,” which was very fun.

This ask also helped me figure out that 2 of the kiddos have food allergies, so thank you for adding to my world building process 😊! See answers below the cut!

Zach: Anything black and with extra caffeine….My preferred drink order is Black Eye Coffee, just listen to the name! It’s perfect! It has black coffee and two shots of espresso, the perfect combination for a busy businessman, inventor, and family man such as myself. I do add quite a bit of sugar to the mix, though. I like it black, but I can’t deny my sweet tooth.

Violet: As someone with overactive bladder, I can’t really enjoy drinks. Anything but water or blueberry juice and I’m in misery 😭. But, if I am adventurous and decide to get a drink (rare), I am going for McDonald’s Mango & Pineapple Smoothie. I cannot drink anything with caffeine due to my medical conditions, and I dislike caffeine drinks anyway, so this is the perfect compromise, as I LOVE fruit and cold drinks!

Varina: Ohhhhh, so many good choices, but I’ll have to say my favorite drink is Caffé Mocha! I just love the combination of the coffee and chocolate/mocha flavor! It’s like an ultra caffeinated hot chocolate to me 😋. I’m not a huge coffee fan, but this combination makes it manageable, and it just tastes delicious! I prefer to make it at home because I can add even more chocolate to it in a dusting on top of the cream!

Vera: I do not enjoy the taste of coffee by itself, so I prefer to have coffee drinks that are so full of sugar and sweet flavors that the coffee taste is virtually unrecognizable, or it is at least masked in such a way that it’s palatable. I personally prefer cold coffee drinks and my favorite is the Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino from Starbucks. I adore the caramel flavor, drizzle, and the crunchy topping. It seems more like a milkshake than coffee, which I love!

Victor: Red Eye Coffee. Dad, much to mom’s horror, had Vallen and me taking sips of his coffee as far back as we can remember. That was exactly what grandpa Tyler did with her so she was sure it would scar us for life like it had her. It didn’t for me, I grew up to crave strong, black coffee. But, I don’t like it as strong as dad, so I prefer the Red Eye Coffee with only one shot of espresso as opposed to two shots like Black Eye Coffee. Unlike dad, I cannot stand any sugar in my coffee, I want it black and unsweetened…as the coffee beans intended.

Vallen: Welp I am the Varmitech with the peanut allergy, so I’m honestly too paranoid to order coffee, drinks, or food out. I am the person that makes my coffee at home, or I’ll have a Zachbot to prepare it for me, so I can ensure I don’t have to make an impromptu visit to the ER. Dad, Varina, and Vera taught me the art of at home coffee making, and my taste for coffee fell somewhere in between their preferred beverages. I am still traumatized by black coffee from when Dad gave it to me and Victor, but I like it sweet like him, and I like it flavorful like Varina and Vera, and iced/cold like Vera…so, I prefer flavored Iced Coffee. My personal favorite is Coconut Iced Coffee. I am checking the labels for each ingredient like a hawk, but I enjoy the cold coffee and sweet coconut flavor combo.

Victoria: Guess who inherited mom’s overactive bladder and can’t enjoy drinks…me! It’s all for the best though because, like mom, I also find most drinks unpalatable. Add in my dairy sensitivity and that cuts out A LOT of options. But, if I am going to try and enjoy a drink, I will usually have the Vanilla Bean Crème Frappuccino from Starbucks. It HAS to be a nondairy version, but I really enjoy the vanilla flavor and little bits of vanilla beans!

I have wanted to write some interesting facts about María for a long time. That's why I wanted to write 10 curiosities about her and show them

1- Maria has more developed canines than a normal human, which causes her to be more prone to eating meat (you can say that she is the carnivore in the relationship, if that makes any sense).

2- Her favorite holidays are Christmas and Halloween.

3- Her grandfather taught her to sled with her "dogs" to get around in winter. When it's winter, sometimes he offers to help transport some things or take the children to school if they missed the bus so they don't arrive. late.

4- Despite being a human, Maria has a heat period like that of a normal wolf, this can begin at the end of empire or early spring and can last between January and April, so she is normally seen stressed in those months that it lasts, although contraceptives help a little.

5- hates mint and everything related to it (except Chris) in addition to being allergic to it. She also hates animal abuse, having her garden damaged (although she forgives Razo and Hasper), talking about her parents because it makes her feel sad and nostalgic, having them reveal her secret, betraying her and the bad people who killed her parents. parents and left her an orphan.

6- she loves, strawberries or any fruit of the forest, animals (her favorite is the wolf), sweet desserts, her grandparents and uncle, her pets, making new friends, Chris and growing in the garden her.

7- Maria has trypanophobia, which is an intense fear of needles in medical settings.

8- María has some red marks on the sides of her face just below her eyes, they are from birth, but she is embarrassed and that is why she prefers to cover them with foundation.

9- She thinks that the relationship that the Kratt team and the unconscious villains have formed is like a somewhat distorted pack, they may always fight but at the end of the day it is always just them, there is no one else who gets into that circle that They have been formed and María has noticed that they even have a history with each other because of the smells they emanate, she finds it very tender in that way.

10: She loves taking care of children, in fact she has worked as a babysitter for some of the Wild Kratt Kids' children without knowing it, but she really enjoys her work.

I love freckles!! (It’s probably because I have a ton lol) but I think they make people look so good 🫶🫶

María: Don't worry too much, I feel that your freckles make you unique, more than you already are

Chris: Thank you and...I'm sorry for acting like an idiot earlier *kisses him on the forehead* and I like your marks, they look like butterfly wings

I have a headcanon in which Chris never lost the freckles he had as a child and as a child older than him he took advantage of this to make fun of them, he rejected them for a long time and covered them with foundation, the same with María, until She discovered that little secret and although at first Chris felt somewhat attacked, in the end Maria revealed her other secret and Chris apologized, forming this link scene ^^

Daphne and the Wild Kratts Team

I am indeed alive!! I’ve been working on this for a while, but life has been crazy recently.

Daphne and the WK Team

Chris: Daphne likes Chris. He struggles to relate to her at times because he’s outdoors, literally touching grass. Whenever he needs help with the internet, he’ll call her over, knowing she’s good at that stuff. He watches her grow up in many ways, and is close with her, but sometimes he questions her mother’s intentions. He isn’t wholly convinced that Donita completely reformed, but he is willing to try to get over it, due to lack of evidence that she is back to her villainy ways. 

Martin: Daphne has always had an interesting relationship with Martin. Her mom was around him a lot, but she didn’t know very much about him. He was around enough for it to be suspicious, but not enough for Daphne to confront Martin or Donita about it.  Their relationship is their business and Daphne tries to just focus on her own relationship with him. He’s genuinely a very nice person, and while Daphne doesn’t talk to him without her mother around very often, he seems to be a like minded person to her. 

Aviva: Daphne loves Aviva. She’s probably the closest to Daphne of the WK team and they often chat to each other in Spanish. Aviva really cares about Daphne, but at times, especially when grades are involved, oversteps and tries to parent Daphne and force her to be better. She doesn’t think Daphne is trying hard enough in school, and doesn’t realize that math and science don’t come as easily to Daphne as they do to her. Despite all this, Daphne spends lots of time with Aviva and sends her some of her mothers finished products she thinks she’ll like.

Koki: Daphne didn’t get along very well with Koki in the beginning. They clashed a lot about the internet, since they both are on it and are prominent figures on it. Koki is against influencers in general, viewing them as scammers and not productive in society, and this bias bled into her relationship with Daphne. Daphne being Donita’s daughter didn’t help either. Koki is still semi convinced that the new being good act is just an act and Donita is waiting for them to let their guard down. As Daphne got more mature, she started talking to Koki more and told her more about her career on the internet and how not every influencer is the same. They eventually became closer, but still aren’t completely friends, with Daphne feeling hurt about what Koki said and Koki is still suspicious of Daphne.

Jimmy: Daphne rarely if ever interacts with Jimmy. She respects what he does but they just don’t have much in common. They follow each other on social media and like each other’s posts but their interactions don’t often go beyond a like and potential short comment. When they meet in person, they are both very awkward, preferring to interact with the safety of their screen in front of them. Daphne and Jimmy are both fine with this relationship, but people around them are pushing them to become closer due to their positive interactions.

Donita: Drink your coffee and get out of here, idiots!

🍩 💚 💼 for the ask game

Thank you so much for the ask! There are excellent questions! In response to this post! Sorry this took forever to get too, but I just had to do detailed responses to each! I hope you all enjoy reading alllllll of this!

🍩 -Who is your OC’s arch-nemesis or rival?

Violet’s ex partner Travis Carter is her arch-nemesis. Travis was a classmate of Violet in high school and college who was obsessed with her. Throughout high school he virtually stalked her and never let her be alone.

Travis took the same classes with her, engaged in many of the same extradition activities as her, he walked her to her classes and was waiting for her after class, ate lunch with her, hung around her aunt’s restaurant where she worked…he did anything and everything that would allow him to be closer to her because he desperately wanted to be with her. He constantly asked her out on dates, but since Violet was so in love with Zach, and she was becoming increasingly uncomfortable with Travis’s attention, she never accepted his offers.

Once Zach starts dating Gourmand, when he’s acting like he does not care about Violet (when he really does), Violet is so distraught that she decided to give Travis a chance because anything was better than being alone…it was her worst mistake. Travis was so possessive over her that he became abusive in his attempts to keep her all to himself and keep her behavior “in check.”

The abuse Violet suffered in this relationship was so deeply rooted that it took her until she was expecting the twins to finally face him and make peace with Travis. But she never truly forgave him or got over it, the relationship scared her and defined her for life. But the one good thing the relationship did was lead her to Zach.

Violet’s rival, until Varina’s birth, was Aviva. From the time Violet went to science camp until Varina was born, Violet had a very poor relationship with Aviva. This initially developed because of Aviva’s harsh treatment of Violet during their time together at camp. Aviva believed Violet’s sour behavior at camp was due to the influence Zach had on her. Aviva did not stop to realize that it was the turmoil Violet was going through in the wake of her parents’ deaths that caused her to act out of turn. So, she constantly judged Violet and treated her unfairly.

The rivalry between them developed when Zach expressed growing feelings for Aviva to Violet. Zach despised Aviva, but out of this loathing came feelings for her. Zach and Aviva developed something of a flirtatious relationship during this summer at science camp. And Violet, who was falling for Zach, found Aviva as a rival for Zach’s affections and attention.

Zach spent so much time inventing with Aviva (instead of Violet) once they started messing around at science camp, and after Zach and Aviva’s falling out, he spent years obsessed over Aviva’s inventions. Violet felt as if she couldn’t compare to Aviva in Zach’s eyes. Zach had feelings for her and valued her superb inventions, therefore Violet saw Aviva as a rival.

💚 - What is your OC’s gender identity and sexuality?

Violet’s gender identity is Female; she uses she/her pronouns. Violet’s sexuality is Demisexual primarily, but she also identifies as Aroflux and Biromantic.

💼 - What do they do for a living?

First and foremost, Violet is Zach’s personal assistant/invention partner. She completes all of the typical tasks associated with a personal assistant, such as keeping his coffee cup filled, keeping track of his business meetings and appointments, completing any secretarial tasks, and then some. Namely, she supports Zach and his evil plans in many different ways.

One of the most important tasks associated with her position as Zach’s assistant is that she uses the skills acquired through her GIS (Geographic Information Systems) degree to help locate theWild Kratts team for Zach. Violet also serves as Zach’s backup pilot, coming to his rescue whenever his plans fail and the Wild Kratts beat him or the animals he used in his inventions seek their revenge on him 😂. It’s not something I’ve discussed in detail yet, but I hope to soon, but it’s worth noting that Zach personally paid for lessons and helped to teach Violet to fly as a teenager.

Violet also (not per Zach’s request, but from her own caring heart) takes care of the varmints Zach captures. She will feed them, give them water, make sure they are as safe and comfortable as possible. Because, no matter how much she loves Zach, she cannot stand to see the animals suffering. She would rather hear his whining and face his anger than let them suffer…this also means that Violet…sometimes 😉….lets the animals…wander free…or, does not do anything to impede the Wild Kratt’s efforts in helping to return the animals to living free and in the Wild.

She also serves as an huge emotional support to Zach, so she is something like a therapist to Zach: she helps him to confront and talk about all of his emotions…especially after his defeats 😂.

Additionally Violet serves as a singer, model, and performer (dancing and aerial acrobatics) for Donita in her fashion shows. This technically was the occupation Violet held prior to becoming Zach’s personal assistant and invention partner. Violet’s dream was to sing and dance/perform for a crowd of people, and Donita wanted to incorporate live music into her shows instead of boring prerecorded songs, so she decided to look for individuals to spice up her shows…and when Zach caught wind of this, he recommended Violet to Donita, and after an audition Donita just had to have Violet for her shows.

After Zach and Violet get married and have children, Violet continues to fulfill all of the above mentioned roles while taking on the responsibilities of a mother and a wife. Which are full time jobs in and of themselves!

For my Spanish class this year, I need to follow a Spanish/LatAm recipe and make a dish to bring to my class and I’m totally blanking so I figured I’d crowdsource lol. If anyone has any suggestions for a dish I could easily make that tastes good, I would really appreciate it
