So many modern detectives have tried to emulate Sherlock Holmes, and none of them have even come CLOSE to touching Benoit Blanc. That man is Holmes' true spiritual successor. He's a silly little guy. He's gay. He's a drama queen. He has impeccable fashion sense. He loves music. He works with the cops but refuses to work for them. His voice is both goofy and incredibly fun to listen to. He sucks at playing Clue and Among Us. He mopes in the bathtub for weeks when he doesn't have a case. He loves hanging out with The Girls but gets incredibly uncomfortable when women flirt with him. The only reason he can afford his gorgeous downtown apartment is because his husband works a real job.* The only thing he hates more than Rich Assholes are Stupid Rich Assholes. He solved a double (attempted triple) homicide and the thing that made him most upset was plagiarism. He supports women's rights and women's wrongs. He refuses to break the law himself but actively encourages his client to commit arson.
And, most importantly, he and Holmes would fucking love each other. If most of the modern day detectives inspired by Holmes ever met him, he would probably want to kill them with hammers, but he and Blanc would probably end up being penpals and sending each other newspaper clippings about crime or some shit. And I can absolutely envision a teenage Blanc reading the Holmes stories and being like, "Wait, being a silly little gay private detective is a viable career option? Well, I guess I've finally found my calling in life."
Anyway I love the Benoit Blanc movies and I hope they make a million of them

Full offense but your writing style is for you and nobody else. Use the words you want to use; play with language, experiment, use said, use adverbs, use “unrealistic” writing patterns, slap words you don’t even know are words on the page. Language is a sandbox and you, as the author, are at liberty to shape it however you wish. Build castles. Build a hovel. Build a mountain on a mountain or make a tiny cottage on a hill. Whatever it is you want to do. Write.

I was just thinking about this after a great miscommunication fanfic. Miscommunication can be a fave for me as long as they do talk about it and try to reach understanding and it’s not failure for lack of trying.
Andriel does it right because they are communicating, they talk about stuff! Neil brings up issues he has and Andrew listens. The problem is they are coming from completely different places and it takes a while before the aha! moment realizing where they are not aligning. Whereas other miscommunication is usually one person stonewalling to keep a secret or straight up lying for the plot.
Okay, technically Neil hides the count down towards his inevitable demise but he literally thinks that is common knowledge he is on borrowed time. He’s like obviously I’ve got one foot in the grave already that’s not news to anyone. Still would have been a good idea to update Andrew though my guy.
In general I hate a miscommunication trope but when andreil does it I’m just like “oh no one ever taught these two how to have a conversation, it makes sense for them”
He fumbled so many romance opportunities for the sake of his secret villain agenda RIP
i can't find the bracket poll in question right now, but the funniest jiggy fandom moment to me will always be when ships involving him won first second AND third place in the "cql most divorced" bracket poll. truly the character of all time.
Everyone: Who's this asshole?
'Mo Xuanyu': *aggressive flute solo*
Lan Wangji: Oh fuck that's my asshole!
everyone: which way do you swing?
neil: ...towards the goal?
I am not a dedicated Jiang Cheng apologist but I respect his aesthetic and attitude. Also it hurts me DEEPLY that his character only smiles in episode one of the Untamed before they arrive at Cloud Recesses. LITERALLY ONLY IN ONE EPISODE. For my own sanity I watch Behind the Scenes clips of the actor who has a very lovely smile. 😊

Summary: Sizhui has grown up with a single father. Now, he learns what it is like to have a mom. Kay's comments: This story was recommended to me by a friend and it completely wrecked me. Left my crying. Broke my heart in the best way possible. This was so perfect?? Modern AU from Sizhui's perspective who's slowly getting used to having another adult around - Wei Wuxian, his father's boyfriend. Slowly though, mysteries of the past unravel. Both of his own and Wei Wuxian's past. Make sure to check out the warnings too, because it gets really dark, though there is a happy ending for Wangxian and Sizhui. Excerpt: “Wei Ying has inquired about your birthday.” Lan Sizhui quickly lowered his cat-ear headphones and sat up a little further in bed. He had been winding down for the evening, his laptop balanced on his knees, when his father had come to join him in his bedroom. Currently, Lan Wangji sat carefully on the edge of Sizhui's bed. “My birthday?” Sizhui asked. “It’s January 12th.” His father's expression was always as placid as a lake sheltered by mountains. And yet, he somehow managed to look amused. “I am aware,” he said. “Wei Ying also knows as such. He is hoping to join you in celebrating.”
pov lan sizhui, modern setting, modern no powers, families of choice, adopted lan sizhui, emotional hurt/comfort, angst with a happy ending, lan wangji adopts lan sizhui, lan sizhui needs a hug, wei wuxian needs a hug, panic attacks, claustrophobia, nightmares, implied/referenced sexual assault, implied/referenced suicide, implied/referenced organ harvesting, dysfunctional jiang family, good sibling jiang cheng, good sibling jiang yanli, family fluff
