Through all the madness of falling in love ...
Speedpaint and image ID below the cut!
[ID: A digital painting with an atmosphere similar to the second ending of the anime Banana Fish. The camera is from Ash's perspective, watching Eiji, who is facing the sun. However, unlike in the RED ending where Ash is in Eiji's shadow, Eiji is holding Ash's hand and leading him toward the light, through the rye field. END ID]

i like to think that throughout their flight to the states, ibe san kept explaining eiji that the guy they are going to interview is literally a gang leader and he can be really dangerous and how he should not provoke them or anything and eiji throws all of that caution out the moment ash makes fun of him ONCE and proceeds to ask a LITERAL GANG LEADER "yo is your gun real?" i just love this boy.
Every day, I wait to see if the little Peter on your dashboard gets the microwave door shut on him, I wonder when it will finally happen...
alright alright if you wanna microwave him so badly here you go
I'm sorry but I can't ignore how Ash didn't know if he was going to come back from the Arthur fight and the last thing he did was to put a little blanket over Eiji,,,
It came to me in a dream
BANANA FISH (2018) #23 For Whom The Bell Tolls
Eiji after Ash's death being told over and over by everyone that Ash died to protect him, but Eiji hoping to god that it isn't true, hoping that Ash finally finally understood that Eiji did love him, that Ash's death would hurt Eiji, and hoping that Ash decided, for once, to be selfish. That he knew it would hurt Eiji, but still decided to die because it was what he wanted. Eiji hoping -- praying -- that Ash didn't die for Eiji, but died for himself.
Eiji telling himself (because he has to believe it, for his own sake) that maybe, just maybe, Ash's last act was his most selfish.
Because God knows Ash deserved to be selfish for once.
Hi if you’re still doing the submissions for 100 followers (congrats btw!) could you write down some ash headcanons you have? can be general or specific, love ur acc !!
Thank ya kindly, Anon! I'll give you some of my favorite Ash headcanons:
Ash took up the guitar when Dino tried to get him to take cello lessons. He likes to play folk songs because they remind him of summers in Cape Cod with Griffin.
Ash can sustain knife wounds and gun nicks. Paradoxically, he cries over papercuts and looks to Eiji to be coddled.
When he's out of cigarettes, he will get butts from his ash tray, salvage any tobacco, and roll a new one up.
After moving in with Eiji, he becomes much more sentimental and romantic. He daydreams about having children and living in an old-fashioned house with a family of his own.
Ash is very close to Eiji's mom. Eiji teases him by saying that she loves him more. He, quote, "knows his way around a paring knife, unlike someone."
Speaking of knives, Ash whittles wood when he can't sleep or is nervous. Sometimes he'll finish a piece in one sitting—a duck, a wolf, a rabbit—and set it on Eiji's table for him to wake up to.
Ash becomes an early riser to walk Buddy. Those two have an inseparable bond. He feeds him meat from under the dinner table when Eiji isn’t looking.
Ash loves writing handwritten letters and memos—to Eiji, when he’s away for work; to Eiji’s sister and mother; to Sing and his friends in New York; to Michael, who would send him drawings in return; to Max and Jessica, catching them up on his life in Japan.
Bet my fucking ass that almost every bf character had a crush on Eiji at least for a little while
