So what are Tumblr’s rules?

We’ve been back on this platform for a couple of months now and I still haven’t figured out just what they allow. Yeah, they say all the stuff about nudity is ok just as long as the image doesn’t focus on genitalia or show an explicit sex act (whatever that really means). And of course an image with naked people has to be labeled mature…I got all that.

Unfortunately, it all seems rather inconsistently applied. I can post a picture of my wife pretty much fully nude (with all the bits showing) and it’s allowed. But, if it’s an image taken directly from behind and she is bent over even slightly, it’s often given the big red banner of death….but not always. Or, if I try to post a pic that also has me in it with the junk fully showing (and no, not hard) we again get the big red banner saying we’ve have violated their rules about sexually explicit material. If my wife tries to post a pic of me alone, in my natural state (again, no hard-on) and the image is certainly not focused on my cock (it’s just hanging out in the pic because I’m there) she gets the red flag. So, if my junk is going to show in the image, it seems Tumblr demands it be at least partially obscured. But, even that may not be good enough. As I just found out, showing any of it will sometimes get your post shot and killed.

I’m not suggesting I have a desire to fling my cock around all willy-nilly, but in the context of the type of images we produce, it’s just going to show up sometimes…we are after all trying to make erotic images that reflect a certain ethos. It’s our expression of “photographic art” (ok, that sounds really stuck up).

I see all kinds of very explicit sex acts on my feed - from blow jobs to anal - without the mature flag. Yeah, I know they are images from the old days that have never been deleted, or they are images that people got in by tricking the system…which I won’t do because I don’t want to get deleted without notice by the Tumblr executioner. But, I’ve also seen more than a few erections and penises in other states flying across my feed with the mature flag on them, implying they were approved by the porn filter bot. So what is it…are fully exposed penises - soft, hard, in between - which of course is just part of male nudity, allowed for other content creators, just not us?

Ok, what is the point of all this? Nothing other than venting. We really enjoy this site but it’s getting to be a pain in the ass. There are a lot of images we’ve made that I know we can’t post and there’s a lot of images we would make if I knew what the real limits are. We enjoy making this type of “art” and we don’t want to be boring and repetitious with the same poses and content all the time. But, based on our “traffic” lately, I fear we may be becoming that because this unclear and possibly arbitrary enforcement of nebulous rules is constraining our creativity.
