This disability pride month, let’s talk more about the fact that even invisibly disabled people cannot work full time jobs. Let’s talk about how job hunting is a fucking nightmare, how people expect us to be able to work if we’re able to stand at all, how we’re told we’re not qualified for jobs that would be lighter on us physically but the part-time retail position down the road would “love” to have you until you have that job and you’re calling out more than once a month. Let’s talk about how remote work isn’t always an option, how difficult it even is to find remote work, how classist remote work tends to be. When I say “give disabled people enough money to live, zero required qualifiers, zero questions asked,” I mean it. Yes, even they can “technically” work. Capitalism has poisoned society into treating its members like cogs in a machine, and if one isn’t spinning, the immediate reaction is to throw it out.

the rise in sex negativity amongst young queer people in recent years coinciding with the overall rise in conservative and particularly evangelical christian ideology is genuinely terrifying. i understand that unpacking ideas you've been taught since childhood is hard work but in the current political climate it's absolutely vital that you do not regurgitate queerphobic talking points (which queer people have been fighting against for decades). people are going to die, and it is our responsibility to minimise the damage, because governments and corporations sure as hell aren't going to.

ugh this is so embarrassing but i need help.

my moms been out on workers comp for the last month due to a work related accident. our income for this month has drastically decreased and we weren’t able to make my tuition payment for this month, nor do we have enough funds for other school related expenses, such as travel, basic necessities, and school supplies. my mother is the only financial support that i have as my father, stepmother, and stepfather both refuse to contribute to my education and im in rough standing with my grandparents after coming out to them.

currently, my account is on hold and i won’t be able to register for classes and i may even lose my housing if it’s not paid by the end of the week. we have most of it already but we still need $500 to make the rest of it.

I find it incredibly telling that so many of you, white users, acuse PoC but especially WoC, who talk about kindness and fostering community of being hypocritical for not having patience with you when you cross the line or act obtuse about the things they're taking the time to educate you with. Kindness doesn't mean nor entail being willing to be steam rolled, disrespected, harassed, purposefully misconstrued, villainized, or ignored. If you think that's what kindness is than you have clearly been VERY ill informed. Kindness and the generosity it comes with, has its limits, it has to, especially when you live and navigate in a world where your humanity is constantly threatened as a person of color.

Things about top surgery that I wasn’t aware of going in:

They’ll probably put a breathing tube down your throat after you’re knocked out. You’ll wake up and your throat will hurt (sort of like strep) for a few days after

You need to wear compression tights for a week or two after surgery, they’ll provide them. This is to prevent blood clots since you won’t be moving around a lot

The IV goes in your hand??? They’ll probably numb you first, which is good. But as someone who’s incredibly uncomfortable with medical needles, seeing a needle in my hand was weird

The surgeon will come in before the operation to draw on your chest. They’ll also ask what size you want your nipples to be. You need to tell the surgeon what size you want your nipples to be, don’t be afraid to be specific. These are your nipples.

Anesthesia/surgery will make you EXHAUSTED afterwards. Like “falling asleep if you’re sitting down for more than a few minutes” exhausted

The tightness of the bandage will probably cause most of the pain. Don’t mess with it, the nurse will fix it during the post-op

You will be PARCHED afterwards. You’re going to be IMMENSELY thirsty, drink LOTS of water. I found that sprite is good too, but you’ll want so much water
