As someone who lived in the middle of nowhere, Amity, the ocean both terrified and enthralled Danny Fenton.

The first time his parents took him to the beach, it was the middle of the day and he’d been stuck in the prototype GAV for hours upon hours on their “quick, ghost rumor hunting field trip.”

It wasn’t quick, and they caught exactly zero ghosts. When Danny saw the expanse of sand underneath the summer sun, he and Jazz both bounded out of the van like feral little monkeys. Danny and Jazz sprinted down the sand, their parents ambling behind them with their arms loaded up with towels, a first aid kit, and an ungodly amount of mildly ecto contaminated food that they already fought before getting onto the beach.

Danny had splashed into the water, yelped at the freezing temperature, and then promptly found a shell to keep. His mom taught him how to swim with the waves, having come from Surf City herself, and his dad taught Jazz how to dive.

It was a day full of fond memories, especially the memory of the Great War of Sand-Castle Crushing he and Jazz waged against each other.

They stuck around for the sunset, the ripples of colors and peacefulness that swept across the vast waters caught Danny in its hold.

He hadn’t forgotten that moment. Not even when he died.

After a particularly hard day as Phantom, Danny would fly to the coast and loose hours just sitting on the sand and watching the waves lap against the shore. And when those nights were clear? It felt like a slice of his own personal heaven, with the stars shining on his shoulders and the encompassing crash of the waves sheltering his heart.

And on some days, when being Danny left him frustrated, Danny would fly out to the coast and use his intangibility to walk beneath the waves. Near the coast, it’s cloudy with swirls of moving sand and disturbed waters. He walked, and walked, and floated and floated beneath the waters, taking contentment from the way the moonlight of his stars filtered through the water. He admired the way light would glint on the scales of fish and crustaceans alike as he floated beneath the surface. On those days, Danny would pick up trash and polluted things and bring them to shore, to place in the trash cans and all of the recycling cans. He picked up shells and decorated the beaches he frequented, because if it were decorated, perhaps people would refrain from chucking their waste into the sea.

Well, usually, it’d be trash.

Danny watched speechlessly, jaw cracked open just a smidge, as an explosion happened right over his head. The distortion of the water did not hide the fact that there were large chunks of plane pelting down at him, a different figure flying away from the explosion. Danny went invisible and intangible as large metal pieces plunged into his current water space.

“Gosh, people these days,” he huffed. “This is gonna take forever to…”

Danny trailed off, seeing a humanoid shape crash into the water, clearly unconscious. Danny didn’t hesitate before shooting towards the drowning person, glowing green and fully visible again. The stranger’s eyes- holy shit, that’s Batman- turned towards him before closing behind cracked open lenses. Batman slumped falling unconscious. That’s not good.

Danny rocketed out of the water with the vigilante in his arms. If it weren’t for his supernatural strength, there’s no way lanky teenage Danny would have been able to carry Batman’s grown ass built like a tank self to the shore. Likewise, if it weren’t for his strength, Danny wouldn’t have been able to start chest compressions through the layers of armor.

Danny leaned back with a sigh as Batman coughed out only a bit of water, because Danny hadn’t taken all that long to get to him, and held up his hands in a “I don’t have weapons” way as Batman whirled to him.

“Hi. Are you alright?” Danny asked, ectoplasm and instinctive ghost speak fuzzing his words a bit. Damn, Batman must have nearly died a lot. He’ll freak out about meeting Batman later.

“You saved me,” an awkward pause. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. The other guy went that way.”

Danny waved vaguely.

“…What are you?”

“Oh my god, Batman, you can’t just ask someone what they are!” He immediately replied, inwardly smacking himself for the joke. He watched Batman’s face, watching for any sign of discrimination against ghosts, or any sign the man had a sense of humor.

“…”

Neither, apparently, was the answer.

“Don’t worry about it. I’m just here to clean up the beaches. You humans really like to pollute the beaches. It’s quite rude, you know. That plane of yours, well, it’s not your fault,” he amended. “But it’s gonna damage sea life. And I don’t know if you’re in the habit, but please don’t litter on the beach or in the water, especially with your unconscious body. It’s tedious to clean.”

“…I see.”

“Stay. I’ll take out your plane. Make sure it doesn’t stay on the sand, alright?”

With that, Danny stood. Unaware of the way the moonlight lit up his hair like white flames and accentuated the sharp points of his ears, Danny turned away and flew back to the plane site, dragging the pieces up with ease.

Batman sat on the sand, likely exhausted from his fight, and watched him carry the pieces of the aircraft up.

“Here. All done. I gotta get going,” because Danny has school and this just lost him two hours. “Will you be alright?”

Batman nodded once, sharply.

“Good.” Danny went invisible, watching Batman sat up straighter, glancing around in a suddenly visible awareness. Oh, well. Tucker’s gonna freak out.

Three years later, Danny’s moved to Gotham for university.

And after midterm season, Danny went for a ghostly walk, but this time, in the waters surrounding Gotham.

When he surfaced, Batman was crouching on a lamp post, waiting for him.

“Oh, it’s you,” Danny said. “Hello. Did you know that people are polluting these waters with bodies too?”

“Yes,” Batman said, graveled voice resounding on the shipping containers around them.

“You should do something about that. Do you like places that are polluted?”

Batman sighed. “What are you?”

Danny hears a small, tinny voice by Batman’s ear, coming from a comm.

“Oh my god, B, you can’t just ask someone what they are!”

Mind flashing back to the night Danny drug a waterlogged Batman out of the ocean, Danny cracked a smile.

“Phantom,” he said, decisively. And, because this isn’t Amity anymore, “the Beach Clean Up crew from the flip side.”

DCxDP: Missing Half

Phantom gets split from his human side. It's not on purpose this time. In fact, the two were somewhat surprised when the GIW had a version of Ghost Cather and that they could set an actual trap up for him.

The only good part of their knockoff was that it couldn't trap ghosts, and they couldn't understand that it was splitting Danny and Phantom. They just assumed Danny Fenton was overshadowed.

Due to this, Fenton had to pretend to be "free," and Phantom had to flee the human world by opening a weak portal. They had a policy for this. The plan was that Phantom would wait in the ghost zone until the heat died.

The only part that wasn't planned was for one GIW agent to shoot a bazooka right as he makes a short portal close. The rocket had been coated in ectoplasm, and it was large enough to push Phantom in the chest further into the Ghost Zone.

The flight path was out of control, throwing him into neck-breaking rolls. Phantom couldn't even tell what way was up or down, just feeling the rush as multiple doors blasted past him, islands flew by, and the rocket's smoke covered his sight.

He couldn't even hear his scream above the burning flames, but he was sure he was yelling. Eventually, he could push the thing off his chest, letting it fly in more turns until it crashed against a floating mountain, blowing it to pieces. Phantom panted as he watched the debris flout into the void.

Then, he realizes one crucial thing: he has no idea where he is. Nothing looks familiar. He pats his suit down, realizing that the Infinite Map is with his human half.

He has no means of navigation, and Phantom is lost in the endless void of the afterlife. He tries to make a portal home, but his training has only just begun.

He only learned to make a portal into the zone, not out for it. Phantom can't even make a green circle appear even when he puts every ounce of will into his power. He almost passes out from the strain.

He's stuck. He's alone. Fenton is likely being wounded by both the GIW and his parents, which means help is not on the way.

It took him an hour for his panic to calm down. In that time, he was attacked three different times by overly confident ghosts who had never heard of Danny Phantom. It is obvious that this is a different picking order in this part. He's quick to establish himself at the top of it, forcing the only ghost who speaks English to tell him how to get back to Earth.

The ghost shakes and shutters but can point in a direction. It's not the right direction because he ends up on Earth in the middle of the American Revolution. Phantom flies back to the Zone only to find it has shifted to a different area again.

Other ghosts attack him again, thinking his small statue belies his power. Again, Phantom humbles them for their hubris and tells them to go through a different door to get home.

This Earth is in the middle of World War 2. Phantom leaves. He tries again and again and again.

Each new ghost he defeats, each new door he tries, each new world he finds. None of it is correct. Some aren't even Earth - the sky is red or purple. There is more than one moon. Some have beings that don't look human despite being alive.

He's nowhere near his home, and hours turn into days. Days turn into weeks. Before long, Phantom realizes he does not need food, water, or sleep. He just feels the empty hollow feeling in his chest, which is where Fenton's life should be.

Half his soul is missing. His fights get a little more violent. His grips fall to unsettling silence, and his longing for home grows with each failed world.

Word goes that Phantom, Terror of The Realms, is searching for something. Whispers and rumors spread among the dead and living alike. Worlds that got a glimpse of him remember and pass his story down generations. Sometimes, as a hero in times of need, sometimes as a monster of the dark, and other times as a myth.

They all have one thing in common, though.

Phantom does not know time moves on in each world, and his legend grows. He does not know that he shouldn't interfere when he sees something unjust or what he thinks is Fenton.

He mentions it too when the disappointment drags him down with each failure and poorly makes a portal to the Zone.

Phantom, Terror of the Realms, is searching for his other half. He is the lost soul of a lover whose soul was still in the world of the living. It's all rather romantic.

Especially to young Jon Kent, who finds Phantom's myth among his grandfather's records of their culture. He gushes about the Kryptonian love story of an ancient god to Damian.

His friend thinks it's too sweet, even with the "undefeated" part of the myth. He commissions a necklace with Phantom's symbol for Jon from a talented artist because he's a good friend no matter how grumpy he pretends to be.

Jon also takes to wearing and praying that symbol alongside his Rao prayers in an effort to connect to his lost culture. He isn't expecting that when he is praying at Wayne Manor, saying the words out loud for his friend (since Damian will never ask, but he likes to learn new things), Phantom answers.

He appears in a flash, the exact image of that Kryptonian depicted thousands of years ago. He floats above Jon with glowing green eyes voided of warmth, and frost encased most of his body but- his presence.

It feels like protection wraps up their physical forms. Jon and Damian have never felt such a rush of ecstasy and warmth. Phantom looks around, whispers under his breath, and, with one raised hand, goes through a wobbly portal.

The two children are left stunned, with only the cool ice that formed around the outline of a male body as proof that Phantom is real.

They immediately start worshiping him, praying he will protect them in combat and help them find love. Jon gets a boyfriend the following week, and Damian gets a girlfriend at the same time. The kids take this as confirmation that Phantom favors them. They spread the word among their classmates, who post it online, and somehow, kids across the nation are joining in Phantom Prayer.

Clark and Bruce are mildly alarmed their sons may have started a cult.

They are more alarmed when Phantom returns, claiming he needs to rest before continuing his search. He fears losing his humanity and wants to be around humans to keep "Dan" at bay.

Jon and Damian offer their homes to the deity without question. No matter what the Justice League founders try, they can't get Phantom out of their houses.

They hope the god finds his other half soon.

Dan attacks the Justice league

The attack is completely unprompted, they’re doing some kind of public appearance and he randomly attacks them one day.

The do their best to fight back but it’s clear to them it’s a loosing battle and Batman is about to do something drastic when all of a sudden there was a loud shout

“I left you alone for 15min!!!!” Dan freezes not moving an inch

The Justice league is confused but grateful for the reprieve, though they all freak out when they see a teenager jog up to the monster that nearly killed them

They just stand there in shock as he scolds the pouting creature especially superman (he later informed them that the creature made a remark about them surviving much longer this time) when suddenly the 2 disappear into a glowing green portal

They all are at the watch tower a week later pouring of what little information they had when the intruder alert goes off.

Before any of the can react the same tired looking teen walks in with the creature trailing behind him.

“I’ll be back in a few hours, I gotta study for my exams. If you need anything just call me and I’ll get here as soon as possible.”

The teen ignored any and all reactions from the team. He nearly set down a brown paper bag and turned back to the creature.

“Make sure you eat your lunch and be nice to your new friends.” He smiled before disappearing into a portal.

The league doesn’t have much time to react before the creature is upon them once more.

Danny is so glad Dan found some new playmates to keep him entertained while he studied

Leaving Unattended

Phantom and Danny were accidentally split in an accident. The two of them end up defeating the enemy that split them but are unable to fuse back together.

Over time as they are on split Phantom gets more and more unstable mentally. Phantoms humanity is cut off majorly and turning off his powers has become harder. Phantom gets into an argument with Danny causing him to run off. 

Phantom tries to find something that he can defeat to blow off steam and finds a cult. the League of Assassins to be specific. Unfortunately due to his declining mental stability he is getting much easier to manipulate.

He ends up getting brought into the LOA due to him being convinced it was a misunderstanding. The LOA Starts as thinking about sending him on a mission after they are convinced they've brainwashed him. 

While with Danny the further he is from Phantom the more he's getting physically sick. Danny is trying to find a way to put them back together working with both Vlad and frostbite. It takes about 3 days before Danny is very worried for Phantom and goes looking for him.

He unfortunately can never find him though he continues looking and is holding out to hope that he will come back. The longer Phantom is away the further Danny gets sick eventually Danny is in and out of the hospital with something that doctors can never diagnose.

It takes about 4 months before Phantom realizes he never told Danny where he went and goes back to see him. This unfortunately gives LOA a weakness. Phantom tells Danny he is staying with some people that he's made friends with but not really telling him what they're doing.

Phantom thinks that Danny will come to the same conclusion he did. He doesn't want to get his new friends in trouble. Danny is mostly just relieved to have Phantom back. unfortunately Phantom has been very unstable for the time he's been away from Danny and gets a little protective and possessive.(can you tell where this is going)

Phantom convinces Danny to come with him to see where he's been staying after realizing that them being apart is not good for both of them. Danny is happy to figure out where he's gone and plans to leave for the weekend. He does not come back after that weekend. In other news the LOA has a new member.

Warning! Description of violent murder, the Ring/Grudge style ghost Jazz, and kidnapping of minors. This is just a short blurb I thought of and had to write given it is Halloween. XD

That beast, he thought that if he chopped her into pieces he could save himself. That she would be unable to form. He actually thought that he could prevent her wrath by phasing the pieces of her corpse into the vast reaches of the globe. While it did slow her down a bit, there was nothing in this or any universe that would stop Jazz Fenton from helping her baby brother. Jazz was not like Vlad Masters, she was not half so pathetic as he was. Jazz was calculating, she was determined, and she was made of love.

It took her ages, so much time was lost just pulling herself together. But that was alright, she had Time, she always had Time on her side. She had time enough to gather herself, time enough to gain power, time enough to train her new form and powers, time enough to find the beast that murdered her parents and stole her brother and niblings. Time enough to chase him down to the wretched little corner of the multiverse he thought he could hide away in. It was different, unfortunately she had to relearn herself once again after going through a portal into that world. But it didn’t matter, she was determined. She could sense her dearest family somewhere in that city. Blocked by a ghost shield no doubt.

That didn’t matter, she was patient, she could find a way in with enough time. Danny and her niblings would be safe while she worked on it. Because she had found him~

Dear Vlad wasn’t expecting her, he hadn’t been ready to be met with her ghost. Not the dark twisted version of what she had made him. She should have been bright, joyful, but instead her long hair fell in sleek watery black waves, stretching long behind her into the abyss. Her limbs only barely attached to her torso and head. Her eyes a dark, fathomless abyss. Blood trailed after her in puddles and floods. He did try to fight back, the coward. But Jazz had long reached the point of Calamity, she was not just a ghost anymore but a vengeful reckoning.

Vlad had taken everything from her. He had killed her parents, killed her friends, kidnapped her brother and niblings, killed her. He must have feared that this would happen, after all he had tried so hard to keep her buried. But she was a Fenton and Fenton’s were not silent. Though he managed to get a few hits on her, he was really no match for her fluid movements, for the boiling rage she carried in her core, for the love that drove her to continue on, for the way she plucked his core from his chest and crushed it between her fingers. With his ghost half gone he was only a pathetic rapidly fading old man, scrambling to get away from her. But she was not merciful as he had not been to her.

What was left of Vlad was found the next morning by his secretary plastered in blood and viscera across his office walls, floor, and ceiling. His perfectly preserved head placed neatly upon his desk with an expression of unspeakable horror on his face.

another misunderstandings au

Vlad goes slowly insane in space after Phantom Planet. He's finally snapped and is completely willing to kill both Jack and Maddie to get Danny where he wants him. He doesn't stay in space, eventually returning to the Zone and setting up shop in another dimension (DC Bludhaven; becoming a shady businessman once again) while keeping an eye on Danny.

Danny is having a great time. His family accepts him, he's a known hero, he's almost an adult. Sure, Dani destablized, but with his parents help he managed to save her! ...As a toddler. Then Clockwork dropped a deaged evil future self (as a baby) for him to raise. So it's not all great.

Then Vlad attacks. Everyone who Danny knows dies except for little Dani and Dan, and Vlad kidnaps him to a new dimension, where no one can help him. I can see Vlad not really recognizing the members of this new dimension as real and therefore, not a real threat. Danny is trapped in the penthouse bc of a ghost shield specific to his ecto-signature and forced to play house with an extremely unstable vlad who's willing to threaten the babies in order to force him to comply.

Then Vlad goes missing and Dick Grayson is assigned to the case
