Really Hate To Do It But I'm Locking All My Works For The Foreseeable Future. The Capitalistic, Callous

really hate to do it but i'm locking all my works for the foreseeable future. the capitalistic, callous scraping of free, lovingly human-made art for the purpose of training generative ai is indescribably immoral, and goes against all i stand for as a writer who writes for the sake of it.

what i make is mine. i did that. and no cheap, synthesized, blended-up and watered-down pathetic pale mimicry can ever come close to what i can and have achieved.

i really, really hate to do this. a reader once commented and told me that my work was the reason they went and applied for an ao3 account. that exchange of respect and appreciation could not have happened if my works were locked from the start. i am fortunate to have felt this love for my work, and am sorry that i now have to sequester it.

what generative ai spits out is not art. there is no passion in the slop it regurgitates, no intentionality behind word choice or frustration with tense. no love imbued from hours spent hunched over a desk editing, no joy derived from having driven your friends crazy with the snippets you strategically dropped to deal the most emotional damage.

fuck generative ai and its profit-driven, uncaring, fuck-you practices. every new post about the violation of artists purely for their efforts to make art accessible sickens me. the industry needs to be better, and the individuals behind each model need to be better; every non-consensually scraped training set you weigh is worth a million artists' souls.

also, fuck anyone who says to stop writing a certain way because the llm "style" of writing is to use em-dashes and other such "tells" – the models do that because REAL LIFE HUMAN WRITERS do that. i will continue to use the goddamn punctuation. it was created to be used. don't be afraid to use it.

started watching this japanese show where they take in requests and they try to help out with whatever the request is. and in this one the guy says that when he was in middle school, he always heard the girl across the street playing her piano, and although he only met her in person a few times, listening to her play her usual song was a great comfort to him growing up, especially getting to hear her slowly get better at playing.

the guy now was an adult and taking a break from college, and began to feel really lost in life, and he kept thinking back to when he was in middle school and hearing her play the piano every day. so his request was to hear her play it again. and he and the show's crew literally go back to his old place, and miraculously the girl still lives in that same house across the street, and even more miraculously the people who currently live where he used to allow him to go back to his old room where he used to listen to her play. and they all agree to recreate his middle school memory for him.

the girl comes home from her part-time job and she plays the piano, although she tells them it's been 4 years since she's ever played and is worried she won't sound good, and the guy sits by the window, and he just listens. and like. just imagining reliving that moment when you were younger, listening to a near-stranger play a song across the street every day, feeling a little less lost because of it, and returning to that as an adult when you need it most and everyone being kind enough to let you savor it again even just for a moment... i wanted to start bawling i wont lie. this is the song she played. im going to go lie down about the humanity of it all

My roommate thought she hated cooking and then she moved in with me and started using knives that were actually sharp and realized cooking is fun. Sometimes I wonder how many other situations are like this. It's not you, or your skills. It's just the lack of correct tools. Everyone knows you need a knife in the kitchen but no one mentions a sharpening stone.

super simple low-effort ao3 summary methods that are 1000% better and 1000% less annoying than just saying you suck at summaries:

copypaste the first few lines of the fic. u already wrote ‘em. let ‘em be their own damn hook

if ur feeling fancy & don’t mind showing ur hand a bit, copypaste the first few lines of the fic that u feel are esp. Important or Interesting - the ones where u first start getting into the real meat of things

state the main tropes! theyre probably already in ur tags - just say them again - maybe as a full sentence if ur feelin fancy. or with a joke if ur feelin Extra fancy

ask a question. pose a hypothetical. eg what happens if u take [character] and put them in [situation]?

make an equation. [character] + [thing] = [outcome]

just write like a one-sentence summary of what the fuck is going down. just one (1) sentence. doesnt matter if it doesn’t cover every important aspect. or if it sounds bland. any summary sentence is gonna be miles better than “idk i suck at summaries”

just…explain the fic like u would to a friend? it doesnt have to be a polished back of the book blurb. it can just be “[pairing] coffee shop au, but like, still with murder, and also i made everyone trans. enjoy”

just stick a meme in there

honestly who cares

just put literally anything but a self deprecating comment in there & ur golden

made another zine :3

the first page of a small paper zine, a torn image of white and blue flowers in a field is pasted across the left half of the page, and the other side is blank. On the left side, there is a cut-out outstretched hand. Across the top read the words “Come with me— see there’s nothing but” in cut-out text
the next two pages are shown. on the top, the background consists of multiple colors of torn red paper. Red flowers are placed in the bottom left and top right corners. various pieces of red washi tape scatter across the page, alongside the words “the blossoming of blood;”. The bottom half has a cutout of a sketched face looking down, a red carnation across one eye. The text is in the top left and bottom right corners, reading: “The Tragedy of myself, my sins.” Across both pages, two strands of red thread are taped.
The next two pages of the zine are shown. On top, various pieces of ripped paper from newspapers and books are pasted on top of each other, a sketched face covered by pink blossoms on top. The text reads, “because I do not know who I am,” and below it, “I could only hold her hand and whisper:”. On the bottom page, photos of a blue sky and orange flowers create the background, with a cut-out cloud, a cloth flower, and a hand with a perched butterfly in the foreground. Across the bottom, “Here you are, here. Patawarin mo ako sa akign mga sala, forgive me”
The last page of the zine has the other half of the first torn photo of flowers from the first page, with a cut-out of a woman looking behind her. Across the top, “but of course she can leave me here anytime she wants to,” and across the bottom, “something pulling you from one moment to the next. A plea forgotten”

10 and 17 for the writer ask game

Thanks for the ask!

10. Is there a character or ship you'd love to write for, but haven't yet? I am exercising so much restraint to not cheat and answer K4yfour, I'll be real with ya. I'll say Feinberg. He's got a very interesting role in the PJO au that lets me show off a lot of the worldbuilding I've done, so that's exciting. I actually have tried writing for him before, but I haven't fully realized his backstory or character arc, so for now he is contained to the wips. I think he'll be really fun once I get him sorted out though. inspiration you want me so bad

17. What is something you recently felt proud of in your writing? Oooh, tough question. I like how I paced things out in Grave Digging. I really tried to tighten the story, give every word and action a meaning, but leave enough breathing room for the events to reflect on themselves and not rush through the emotional beats. It's also my first multichapter (that might get off the ground - sorry ISAT au, you weren't meant to be), which is awesome!
