What should have been a shower thought but it's actually a just-before-going-to-sleep thought:

As far as I know, there's no historical recording about why is hide and seek a thing. Sure, we have our childhood memories, our parents sharing theirs, stories of children playing it from XVIII century to Middle Age, but never a reason for the game on itself. One could say it's for fun, but the rules are:

•If you seek: You wait for them to hide while standing on a certain spot, and you have to catch ALL of the players to win

•If you hide: You are not to be found, and you must reach a certain spot to win.

Now, what does it reminds you of?

Any particular event?

Or maybe a lot of events?

What I'm getting at is, as chess is a child-friendly recreation of wars during Feudalism, hide and seek might as well be a representation of the mythical Trojan war or the neverending conquerors-conquered territories dynamic.

For as much arguments Snape's actions and motives brings to the table, everyone prefers him, Draco or even Bellatrix and Voldemort to live, but Umbridge. Fucking Umbitch. I swear, it has been decades but we still want that woman dead.

tbh, the thing that really gets me about Astruc's tirades against Chloe is that it's the epitome of something i've seen across A Lot of different fandoms where fans are more vicious about the child/teenage character who's just An Asshole than they are towards characters in the same series who are abusers/genocidal/otherwise terrible people like, they're okay with the latter being redeemed no matter how forced but the former needs to Die or w/e, but this time its the damn creator acting like this

Really? What kind of fandoms have you seen this behavior in?

special thanks to @sanktnikolais for editing my messy thoughts, i adore you

As a Colombian woman, it really warms my heart to see how many people are loving Encanto—all the positive reactions and the praise the movie has received not only from the critics but from the audience in general make me happy beyond measure. I, as well as pretty much everyone in this country, have always resented the negative representation we have had in the media.

For instance, “Narcos” is one of the best examples of this hurtful representation that continues to profit from some of the darkest moments of recent history, events that we all would like to bury in the past.

Nonetheless, the discourse I have seen about Encanto, especially on Tumblr, has disappointed me greatly. Most people have focused on coming out with headcanons about the characters’ sexuality and gender, or writing Camilo x reader fics (do you realize he’s a teenager? please stop) shifting completely the real focus of the movie. Listen, I am not going to tell anyone what to do or to gatekeep these characters. The fact that you think Isabela is a lesbian doesn’t bother me; what I’d really like to remind people of, specially queer white folks, is that this movie isn’t for you.

This movie was made first and foremost for Colombians and Latinos. Therefore, when a movie like Encanto, which excels in every aspect and has finally given us the representation that we have been dying for, gets its every valuable aspect outshone by these woke and for the most part ridiculous takes (Bruno is autistic bc the knock on wood thing? Tell me you are white without telling me you are white.)  It is expected that people like me won’t feel happy.

That being said, in this post I want to tell you about the amazing job Disney made at representing the armed conflict in my country and what this representation and the song “Dos Oruguitas” mean for Colombian people.

every fucking time i see someone using the term American to refer to USA citizens i want to put my head inside a blender. idc you do not have another word for saying people from the usa, America is a whole continent not just your country. I'm tired of watching the whole world reducing it all to the United States.

Every day I'm growing sicker of the "madrigalcest is ok bc Bruno ships it in his rat telenovela" discourse

You illiterates

You uncultured cockroaches

As the yellow butterflies, it was a direct reference to the universally recognised, 1982 Literature Nobel winner novel written by Gabriel García Márquez, Cien Años de Soledad/One Hundred Years of Solitude, and it was an allude to the incestuous relationship between Aureliano Babilonia and his aunt Amaranta Úrsula (neither knew of their family ties) producing a pigtailed child who killed her mother as she birthed him and was later devoured by ants, thus putting an end to the Buendía bloodline and sentencing Macondo to its self-destruction, fulfilling Melquiades prophecy.

According to my daily scrolling, unless it's a y/n or reader insert, there isn't soulmates related content on the Encanto fanbase yet. Unaceptable!

*sighs*

Guess I'll have to do it myself

Introducing to y'all:

Matchmaker! AU

In this alternate reality, Mirabel's gift is not only seeing the Thread Of Fate™, but cut and sew it as she sees fit

As a personal HC, there are three variations of the thread

-White, if the person's not old enough to think about romance/isn't interested on it

-Red, the typical

-Black, if one of the soulmates dies

She quickly starts competing with Isabela for the Abuela's Favourite Grandchild title

Same goes for townspeople, as she officiates marriages and relationships

Of course, it's not always happy rainbows, as some couples are simply not meant to be

"Mirabel, please tell me that milady and I are made for each other! My princess-"

"Adrián, I already told you 528628627 times that Marina's not interested, grow the fuck up"

"But you could change our destiny for love, you selfish bi-

*Luisa's knuckles crack in the distance*

For the nature of her gift, she's compared to that person we don't talk about

According to señora Pezmuerto, she's somehow singlehandedly guilty of all affairs, divorces and breakups

Nevertheless, it's a good life as Encanto's Matchmaker

Then, everything changed when the fire nation attacked both families deemed fit to marry Mariano with Isabela

What a beautiful couple!

Too bad his string is the same as Dolores and Isabela's is white

And the candle flickered during Antonio's ceremony. Like the Thread, she's the only one who can actually see the cracks in Casita

Yeah...yikes

(A possible sequel could be that, out of respect, she has never looked at Abuela's pinky. But once the Madrigals have rebuilt Casita she sees it on accident...and it's red)

(I'm a sucker for the Pedro Lives AU okay?!)

Feel free to add more ideas!

I CANT BELIEVE THAT THE #ShutUpGringo2022 IS NOT TENDENCY HERE.

But at the same time im not surprised since this is a mostly gringo social media

SO HERES MY APPORT

First of all: Context.

Well, we all know the movie Encanto, I, personally, didn't see it but I know enough to love it, it does represent Colombian and Latino culture as well. Even in the smallest details yk. That why a lot of latinos are very happy with this movie, bc, you see, when the only representation you get is ridiculized parts of something as important as your culture, a movie like encanto is... Well, a charm.

You see, Latinoamérica is a big ass continent, with lot of history and culture. We have every bit of variety. Latam is builded in what a lot of natives created. A lot of countries respet and hold their cultures onto their natives. Even the ones where they are repressed, and trashed, their presence still strong, our roots and traditions will always go back to them. Then we have the African presence, Latam was the most big port of Enslaved Africans of the world, African culture has its presence on its own too. (Brasil is the country with most police brutality against black people on the world. But none of you will ever know that bc nobody cares about a third world country) European culture too, because of a lot of immigration, as well as Asian culture.

And YES a lot of us come from the pain of our ancestors. From the rape of colonizers, from the pain of immigration and starvation and shame, from the genocides and death.

But we carry that with us. With pride, bc we're here because of their strength. Latam is such a varied place, thanks to all of them. We have a bit of everywhere. And that's something to be PROUD.

We all are from different colours, we all have different traits, different ways of manifesting our beliefs, and tbh. Nobody could give more of a shit of that than us.

Ooh but there's somebody. And that's all the assholes who think they can talk for us. Offend themselves for us.

Listen: We do not care if someone drew a character of Encanto a light more white than it is. All our countries are headed to ruin WHY WE WOULD CARE.

Is not such a problem to us, so WHY do yall get offended anyways??

Yall not only want to apropiate our culture and traditions but our problems too?

And then get MAD bc we tell you to shut up?????

I CANT BELIEVE THAT THE #ShutUpGringo2022 IS NOT TENDENCY HERE.

Look. Encanto is OURS. It represents our shared pain, our generational trauma and also the comfort of our family and home. Yall dont get to decide whether you hate a character or not, because yall don't understand that character like we do.

We cannot have NOTHING i swear. Bc you made a problem of it.

And its not the first time either.

I CANT BELIEVE THAT THE #ShutUpGringo2022 IS NOT TENDENCY HERE.

Yall canceled a mexican rat bc it didn't fulfill your own image of a Mexican. While mexican little kids where DELIGHTED to see a part of themselves on tv.

I mean. Yeah, a lot of those characters are based on the most "prominents" aspects of our culture. That doesn't mean its bad???

In the Latinoamerican Spanish version of Sing there's an Argentinian rat. Who is greedy, annoying and sings Tango. AND I LOVE IT. And i know I'm not the only one bc... WHEN do I see anything that represents Argentina that doesn't have to do with our horrible economic crisis? And its A RAT WHO SINGS TANGO AND PLAY THE SAXOPHONE. UN TIPAZO.

What I want to say with this is; Yall dont get to say a WORD about us. You live in a first world country. With a privilege you can't deny even if you wanted.

Istg yall have this problem where you can't get your noses off of other minorities bussines.

And the worst of this is that you get to be the victim??

And calls us racist bc we discriminate your PRIVILEGE

Quick history lesson:

When USA was in war against Mexico, the soldiers, who wore green, used to be everywhere, and some Mexicans used to tell them to get out, on a hardly pronounced english "Green, go" Which derivated to "Gringo"

Gringo is not a Slur.

Is our way to kick you all out. Yeah, some people use the term affectionately, while others used it as a way to rechaze the term "american" As if having it on your country name where enough reason to call yourself after a whole continent. And take us with you when others continents mock you.

Gringo can't be a slur. Gringo is part of our history, is part of the damage yall have done to us. Endlessly.

Victimize yourself if you must. Forget all the shit your centric county has trow to all of us. But we wont forget.

Yall can hide on your social justice hashtags all you want. We know the kind of shit you are.

I CANT BELIEVE THAT THE #ShutUpGringo2022 IS NOT TENDENCY HERE.

I CANT BELIEVE THAT THE #ShutUpGringo2022 IS NOT TENDENCY HERE.
I CANT BELIEVE THAT THE #ShutUpGringo2022 IS NOT TENDENCY HERE.

I CANT BELIEVE THAT THE #ShutUpGringo2022 IS NOT TENDENCY HERE.

En fin

I CANT BELIEVE THAT THE #ShutUpGringo2022 IS NOT TENDENCY HERE.

On a lighter note: Isn't beautiful and a bit funny the fact we are ALWAYS fighting for something; Territory, culture, food, war, inmigration, politics, traditions. That Arepa is Venezuelan, not colombia, that Messi is better than Pele, than Gardel is Paraguayan not Argentinian (mentira) that September is Chile's not mexico's, that Bolivia and its sea.

But we unite only to support each others on our emergencies and to fight Gringos. Is beautiful, really. Lets never change.

Latinos unidos jamás serán vencidos 🤝

I CANT BELIEVE THAT THE #ShutUpGringo2022 IS NOT TENDENCY HERE.

I CANT BELIEVE THAT THE #ShutUpGringo2022 IS NOT TENDENCY HERE.
I CANT BELIEVE THAT THE #ShutUpGringo2022 IS NOT TENDENCY HERE.

Edit: I realize now that is very important to clear the Latinx Thing; This post is not abt it, some latinos dislike it while others don't, I don't really mind it, I guess the problem resides that is originated on USA, bc on Latam we have the "Latines" variation, but idk, I put the memes there bc they where the only ones I could find abt the whole situation xd

This is a new year, which comes with new projects. So, I want to share what I've been working on:

An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works

Rating: Not Rated

Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings

Relationships: Félix Madrigal/Pepa Madrigal, Agustín Madrigal/Julieta Madrigal, "Abuela" Alma Madrigal/Pedro Madrigal, Antonio Madrigal & Mirabel Madrigal, Isabela Madrigal & Mirabel Madrigal, Camilo Madrigal & Mirabel Madrigal, Camilo Madrigal/Original Male Character(s)

Characters: Agustín Madrigal, "Abuela" Alma Madrigal, Antonio Madrigal, Bruno Madrigal, Camilo Madrigal, Dolores Madrigal, Félix Madrigal, Isabela Madrigal, Julieta Madrigal, Luisa Madrigal, Mirabel Madrigal, Pepa Madrigal, Mariano Guzmán, Original Male Character(s)

Additional Tags: Original Character(s), Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Mirabel Madrigal Has a Gift, Sister-Sister Relationship, Unrequited Love, Possessive Behavior, Minor Violence, In this house we stan Alma Madrigal, lots of Spanish

Summary:

Casita comes to realise that when one tries to solve intergenerational trauma, the end does not justify the means; especially if those means revolve around a innocent 5 years old girl suffering a decade of slander & isolation for having no magic. Therefore, it's time to recycle a gift.

Queer hcs are completely fine but God please stop twisting the message of Encanto and pretend it's supposed to be a queer narrative,,, it's about generational trauma in latino households

Just once, I would like to see a child's movie in which it's main character has an allergy to pets and the plot doesn't revolve about crazy shenanigans to convince the about-to-get/already divorced/widowed parent to adopt a puppy which magically solves everything. I want to see a story in which the next facts are not shamed or portrayed as negative:

•Yes, I cannot have a pet for my health/economic situation

•Yes, I am jealous of my classmates that can have a dog or cat

•Along the way I realize that MY HAPPINESS doesn't depends on taking care of some animal

•Parents can get even more struggles on their lives with a pet & child on board

•People have a right to be angry when a pet destroys things

•The dog pound employees are not evil, they're just doing their job

As someone with fur allergy who grew up watching tons of films with the message "you need a dog to be happy" I'd really like if the future generations got cut some slack about something they have no control over.

Many people on this new fandom have the audacity of demonizing Alma without even trying to look deeper into her story. Tell me, have any of you:

•Had your hometown burned to the ground and escaping within an inch of your life. Probably lost the rest of your family to the flames?

•Ran into the wild unknown for weeks while making sure your newborn triplets are all fed and healthy while constantly checking your surroundings and provisions, having little to no sleep?

•Had the love of your life stabbed to death in front of your eyes and being physically incapable of doing something, not only for the mere shock, but also to protect the lives of your children?

•Been saved by a miracle out of nowhere, and whoops! You, a newly widowed with 3 children, are now the chosen leader of a community of hundreds of terrified people?

•Had no option to give your beloved a proper funeral? Had no way to express your grief, pain or fear for the responsibility and image bestowed upon you can't allow any cracks? EVERY. SINGLE. THING. YOU. DO. is going to affect the people around you. You're the one that holds the magical candle. You have to be strong, for everyone, for the people, and for your offsprings

•Had no idea how to relate or help your magical 5yo, having no other guide but your gut instinct? Consider:

-One of your daughters can't feel negative emotions, otherwise someone will get struck by lightning. Better to teach her to repress feelings

-Your son seems to predict only bad things. Self-explanatory why people doesn't like him. Also, he strongly resembles your dead husband

-Your other daughter now has to wake up before the sun rises to make tons of healing food. There's no break, and you can't stop her from helping people. Why would the miracle give them gifts, if not for aid the community?

•Wrongly believe that your family's role in life, the only reason you were saved, was for helping others; and slowly accommodate and settle in that lifestyle. Silently burying your troubles behind a smile. Years start passing by, your daughters get married and you get grandchildren. The town gets bigger. Everyone has to work harder for things to go smooth

•Suddenly had one of your granddaughters turn up giftless. Why? What does this mean? The people are panicked, you're at lost of what to do. You can't move, just like that time many years ago. You ask your Brunito, the only sort of lead you have for an explanation, and he disappears, not even saying goodbye.

•Feel like you have to make up for it, like this is your mistake. You already lost your husband and son. You're not going to lose anyone else. You have to take control.

•No idea what to make of Mirabel. She made the candle flicker. Could she be a threat to the magic, to the family, to Encanto? It can't be, she's innocent, isn't she? But Luisa loses her gift. But the marriage proposal is ruined. But you finally get the explanation you asked ten years ago. But the cracks are appearing everywhere around Casita. But Isabella's plants invade town in middle of making amends with the Guzmán. But her perfect grandchild is a mess. Once again everything is chaos, and you're angry

No, you haven't, and it shows.

Does it justify the harsh treatment at Mirabel? No. Neither does it justify your attempts to dehumanise her.

Recently I've seen some posts with ideas for a Coco-Encanto crossover. It gave me inspiration for making one of my own:

After Un Poco Loco was released, it became a huge success (not as big as Remember Me, mind you) which left Ernesto and Héctor with quite the amount of money. While Ernesto went to buy a big mansion for himself, Héctor decided to save half of it and spent the rest in a simple wedding & honeymoon with Imelda. Where did they go? A Colombia tierra querida, por supuesto! Let's say they were given a tour of all thermal floors and one day when Imelda was buying gifts for her family, she met Alma. What's to happen between two newlywed women? A wholesome friendship, of course (low-key with Pedro's lyrics and Héctor's melodies Dos Orugitas may have come to life, but we're focusing on the wives here). When the honeymoon was over, they became pen-pals, exchanging recipes, chismecito and pregnancy tips, but suddenly...the letters stopped coming, and Héctor left.

I know this is where everything falls apart bc the triplets are 50 and Mama Coco is 108, but ignore that detail plz

Cut to El Día de Muertos 50 years later, Mamá Imelda asks 16 years old Miguel (he was 12 in 2017) to please find whatever happened with her old friend. When Miguel and little Coco (I actually can't find a reason for letting a minor travel travel to another with his 5yo baby sister, but why not) finally find Encanto, the town has no idea what to make of the newcomers. Can they let them in? Can they let them go and risk to be exposed? The answer will lie on the Madrigal family.

I'd like it to be a story of both personal growth and Miguel and Mirabel falling in love, but I'm not sure how to make it work.

Let me know what you think!

What i hate the most about this hc of “Everyone is gay in the madrigal family” are not the headcanons itself but the ways people try to justify things by modifying MY CULTURE. Americans are really getting into fights with Colombians to prove their point by saying: “I investigated and those colors have nothing cultural on it” 🤡🤡🤡 so, you are really explaining a Colombian what their culture is or isn’t because you searched on google? Wtf dude. We live here and you just recently learned that Colombia exists thanks to a movie!

To worse things those people are saying that Isabella is gay because she ends up washed in the lgbti flag after her song, when she’s literally washed in the Colombian flag 🇨🇴 and not recognizing that makes me feel really sad. But those people don’t know anything about my country so they prefer to see other stuff…

April first, 1999

George blew the candles, encouraged by his family and friends. He didn't knew how long he would resist smiling. No, don't think like that, he nagged himself, they need this as much as you do. He just had to keep going, just a little more.

He decided to focus his attention on something other than the cake, like, Hermione and Ron. They remind me of Angelina and- nope. Harry, Harry who had also been-no. Percy, who should have- NO. Teddy, whose parents were-oh for Merlin's beard!-wait, what?.

Slowly but surely, the little Lupin was crawling in his onesie towards his puffy bludger , courtesy of Lee Jordan, probably to chew the wrapper with that toothless mouth of his.

The baby would be one year old in a few months and was already babbling, he couldn't help but chuckle. Then, he saw his chance, this was it! He ended his cake slice, picked up the baby and tickled him.

-It's quite late for you to be up, don't ya think, lil' fella? I'll take him to his crib-he told his father.

-Be careful-Arthur smiled softly. If he knew his intentions, he didn't said a word.

As soon as they were in the hallway, George exhaled as he leaned against the wall, and quietly, very quietly, he sobbed and shed a tear. No one mentioned him, but his twin's presence, or rather, absence, was felt all around the Burrow.

Teddy didn't liked seeing Georgie like this, he didn't liked it!. So he reached with his tiny baby hands to his cheeks, as if asking "Are you okay?". That seem to work when Uncle Harry touched his head.

He wasn't, but he played it cool for the kid-S'nothing, let's get you to your room

Teddy settled down on his chest with sleepy eyelids. Going up the stairs, he heard what he suspected when he saw the empty chair: he wasn't the only one that had stepped away from the party to mourn in peace.

-I-I miss you so much, my child, my Fred- Molly cried while looking at a picture of the Weasley twins laughing, maybe after one of many pranks they had pulled over the years.

The crib was just next to her mother's bed, as she would babysit Teddy for her admittedly large experience. He knocked, almost sorry to do so.

-Oh, George! I-I'm so sorry, I didn't know you were coming, I just-

-It's fine, mom. Don't worry about it.

-Did everyone ate already?

-Yup

Teddy looked at the old frame, frowning a little. Then he turned his hair red.

-Oh. Do you want me to hold you, darling?-asked the woman, cleaning her face and showing a sad smile.

-Fwed?

Fred. That was his first word. Fred.

The ghost grinned softly.
