As a way to maintain the landlord rules going on when I’m away traveling or at my girlfriend’s house, I made this amulet that is hanging on my front door.
I was called to do this during the banishing ritual I posted here, and so I used what I had in hand: some twigs and black ribbon. It could have been a poppet of me or an item that’s close to me and will not leave my place.
They key of it is my blood, connecting the item to me. So, when I’m out, this represents me and my power over my land–it’s basically a warning for intruders that I’m there even when I’m not, I will notice them and will be pissed when I’m back.
We’ve partnered with the NYC Department of Health (@nychealth), ThriveNYC, the First Lady of New York Chirlane McCray (@flonyc), and Tumblr Creatrs (@creatrs) to build a digital Mental Health Quilt.
What’s this, then? Each patch on this wonderful thing will represent an individual’s relationship with mental illness. That’s where you come in. Whether you’ve battled it before, are going through it now, or are helping others in their struggle, we would love to see you contribute.
How do I submit a patch? It’s easy. Three New York City artists and four of our fantastic @creatrs made these templates for you to download if you want to color in a patch.
Want to submit something more original? Sure! Just a couple formatting things:
Try to keep the post captions under 100 characters.
Your work must be 600x600px at 72 DPI, in a JPG or GIF format.
It must be 100% your own. Totally and completely original.
Whichever method you choose, just submit here.
You’ll be helping out some pretty great charities, too. All you have to do is tag your post or submission with #The Trevor Project, #NAMI, or # The Steve Fund and we’ll donate $1 to the tagged charity, up to an aggregate total of $20,000 for all three organizations.
And the end result? While all of these patches will live on the Mental Health Quilt Tumblr forever, some of these patches will actually be printed out and turned into a real life quilt. We couldn’t ask for a better monument to you and this project.
Say
“oh familiar tell me my sacred beast oh tell me familiar please tell me.” Chant this 1 or more time. you will have a dream about your familiar(s) the night you say this.
So this is a spell for when things are rough in a relationship, I did this spell for a friend who is struggling in her relationship, so it can be used for your relationships or other’s.
I also feel like I have to say this for the newly awakened witches, but you should really make a spell your own, if you want to use this, feel free but also add your own flavor into it and make it more specific for your situations.
What I Used :
A bowl
Rose buds/petals (for love and understanding)
Oak shavings (for strength)
Rosemary (for insight and the ability to not be blinded by lust)
Storm Water (to weather any storm that comes their way)
A Candle (pick your color for the situation, my friend needs financial stability in her relationship, so I used green)
A pinch of black salt (for protection from the assholes)
Pour a little of the storm water into your bowl, make sure it’s only about an inch so it doesn’t go up very far on the candle, I used a votive because it’s tall and wide enough to sit in the water without falling over or anything.
Add the candle to the center of the bowl and light it while stating your intentions for the person the spell is for, or what you want in the relationship you’re struggling with. It doesn’t have to be a romantic relationship.
Once the candle is lit add the other herbs to the water around the candle and let the candle burn down, let the wax spread into the water and gather the herbs as it does so.
When the candle burns out let it sit on your altar for a day, 24 hours or so. Once that’s passed dispose of the materials however you see fit.
I hope you guys like this! Let me know if you want me to post more spells?
Although candles are a relatively modern part of magic, they are now a significant one. In candle magic, the candle is often dressed before it is burned.
Dressing can include some or all of these steps:
Cleaning the candle of unwanted energies
Filling the candle with the intent of the spell
Carving information on the candle, especially identifying information if the candle represents another person
Rubbing special oil on to the candle
Adding powdered herbs on top of the oil (big chunks will burn!)
Adding additional decorations
In ceremonial magic such as Wicca, dressing a candle may be very ritualistic and have specific rules. Refer to your tradition to figure out the correct steps. In folk magics or intuitive paths, think about your goals for the spell, what the candle represents, and what feels right to you.
Should all candles be dressed? No, I don’t think so. Sometimes a candle is a small sacrifice (of goods and effort) and simply burning it is the right thing to do. If you want to light a candle to honor an ancestor or spirit, I don’t think it needs to be dressed.
Is this list comprehensive? I doubt it. These are just the common ones I know about.
Fire hazard? Magic is a part of nature, it does not defy nature. Magical candles are not less likely to set things on fire. If you’ve never dressed a candle with oil or herbs, do a test run first to see if it will ignite. No candles should be allowed to burn without supervision, so if the spell calls for the entire candle to burn down, consider choosing a small one for the spell. That being said, if you are going to leave a candle by itself anyway, keep it in a big dish filled with sand or water (that is sure to catch the candle if it falls over), at least 2 feet away from all fabrics and walls.
Candlesticks and carvers. The candlesticks or holders that you use will be soaked in the energy of the spells you cast. Give them a good washing to get the wax off and a nice spiritual cleansing to get rid of the ‘leftovers’. Likewise, whatever you use to carve in the candle is a miniature wand that will be imprinted with whatever you send through it. Consider using a disposable tool like a toothpick and throw it away outside.

Sometimes we just get some terrible bouts of luck that just needs to end and go away. Here’s how.
Get yourself a candle. Red’s a good choice but gold or white will also work. You might want to go with a smaller candle here, like a votive or even a tealight. Added bonus: one with a cleansing or comforting scent. Or burn incense or aromatherapy oils in the background for that cleansing/comforting scent. Super bonus round: Start with a cleansing scent during the spell and once it’s done and the candle’s burned down, start the comforting scent. Examples: cleansing might be mint, citrus, sage, etc but comforting might might pumpkin, vanilla, or apple.
Charge your candle with intent or visualize you goal! Alternative, just TELL the candle what you want to happen or carve it into the wax. This depends on your personal practice and if there’s enough space on the candle to even carve things into.
If you’ve got it, use a good luck oil to coat your candle. Or use luck drawing herbs. This’ll depend largely on your practice and stuff on hand. I tend to use clover and cinquefoil (five finger grass) personally but YMMV.
Light your candle and chant:
Trouble has come my way,
Bad luck and bad times are bad friends
i turn them away. Unwelcomed and unwanted,
I break this cycle now.
[blow out the candle. Take a deep breath and release it. Light it again, saying the following]
With this new flame, I bring good luck into my life
Good things, beneficial things, will happen
And when this candle died, my good luck will live on
[let the candle burn out]
