This may sound like an extremely hot take, but as bad as Danganronpa 3 was, it at least it didn’t got as much worse as Danganronpa V3, where they just retcon the entire story, and all of the world building all together, just to reveal it all as to be nothing more other than just some game show.

Okay but I feel like the overall themes of Danganronpa 1 and 2 with the “persevering through life even through bleak circumstances” and “having hope despite tragic surroundings” and “life is full of hope and despair” and “choosing your own future despite what is blatantly shown to you” and “changing to be a better person despite what you’ve done in the past” and “breaking the mold of what others want and expect you to be” and “choosing to live free at the expense of security” are actually super fucking cool and salient messages that are overlooked as hell because of all the other weird shit that happens in those games
And when we finally kill the gods neither hell nor heaven will be waiting for them because they created those to imprison us

remember how kokichi ouma said he was trying to kill everyone in chapter 4 (which i highly doubt but thats a conversation for another day) for “their own good” and then after chapter 5 the fandom went through 8 hoops trying to convince themselves kokichi was Good, Actually, by claiming he figured out the plot twist of chapter 6 two chapters ahead and instead of being normal about it he set up all of chapter 4 using “uwu its for your own good” as an excuse so he can get everyone to hate him and believe him when he said he was the mastermind?
and after the conflicts of chapters 4-5 the fandom somehow still think KOKICHI was in the right?

Okay so I’m super late seeing as the game released two years ago but after the disaster that was the DR3 anime, it took a while for me to build up the motivation to play DRV3. I just finished it recently. And what do I think of it?
It was… not as bad as the anime. Actually, it’s not bad at all. Far from it.
But there were still so many nonsensical and dumb decisions made. Just like in DR3. I know for most people, it was chapter 6 and the ending that broke the game and made it horrible for them. But those didn’t particularly bug me. It was actually chapter 5.

so ouma can relate A Lot to monaca's whole....the most unwanted child thing, especially the 'when monaca talks, everyone else goes silent. when monaca laughs, everybody else stops' and that shit you know? so he will vehemently defend her against anyone who even thinks about insulting his little sister. he defends her like his life depends on it, and then some, and monaca didn't really understand why for a while until one day she asked and he told her that she 'reminded him of himself too much' and that it had 'gotten to him'
they both have some pretty fucked up self worth, so they can relate to that too- (1/?)
- it just so happens that they're both very similarly inclined, too, with how, despite how very big and captivating their presence is, they still manage to fall back into the background and somehow control things from the shadows, even though the spotlight is also simultaneously on them.
they keep everyone at an arm's length, because they're deathly uncomfortable with their emotions, and the thought that they may be unable to protect themselves if they let anyone get any closer tends to keep them from letting that initial wall (or five) down. there will always be people who don't understand them, who can't understand them, but they can understand each other. ouma can read monaca like the back of his hand, and tends to get quite frustrated around others because why can't they see how they're impacting her, how are they so stupid, and, for such emotional people, they sure are horrid at detecting those they're against's emotions, huh?
monaca isn't used to being given anything but the exact opposite of the benefit of the doubt, so, as one can imagine, it does indeed come as quite a surprise for her when she finds someone not only not immediately pitted against her, but for her, too. monaca, in turn, quickly warms up to ouma once realizing that his actions and what appears to be unwarranted and unusual kindness towards her is entirely genuine, and they're rarely seen apart. if one is somewhere, the other is certain to be close behind, and if ever out of eyeshot, it'll only ever be just barely, with the both of them tending to 'pop up out of nowhere,' in sorts.- (2/??)

i wish more writers + fandom analysists understood that a character can totally work through their guilt and own up to their mistakes without there having to be some justification for what they did. like sometimes you just genuinely fuck up with no excuse, and the best you can do then is acknowledge it, apologize to those you hurt, and just move on with your life while trying to prevent the same mistake from happening again
it doesn’t always have to be like “you couldn’t help it” or “i understand where you were coming from”, it doesn’t always have to be acceptable!! they don’t always have to be forgiven!! because making a mistake like that doesn’t mean there’s no hope for them in the future, especially if they feel bad about it. just!! let characters use their own mistakes as motivation to better themselves without relying on forgiveness!
it never fails to surprise me how some people will simply take every single thing in a story at face value and assume that what the characters are saying or doing or thinking must always be true even when all of the context clues are screaming the opposite
