Have you ever considered how fucking astonishing babies crying is?

The young of other animals don’t make noise, or if they do, barely any at all. Baby birds only start chirping when their parents come back with the food, kittens meow to their mothers because cat communication is extremely subtle and drawing your caretaker’s attention may require a sound when you have eight siblings. At this point, they can already see and walk.

 But human babies? Crying is essentially the first willful action that they learn. Months before being able to move on your own, or even hold your own fucking head up, or being able to choose when and where you defecate. Before anything else, a skill more valuable than anything else, is a distress call.

 A distress call specifically intended to be impossible to ignore.

 Before object permanence or theory of mind, without even an understanding of what help they need, who could provide it, and whether they choose to do so, a human being is capable of expressing that there is something wrong in the state they are in, that they are powerless to correct on their own.

 This is what was evolutionarily selected above silent babies that did not attract predators. This is what was selected instead of young who could instantly walk. This is what was selected as the ideal offspring for the human race. Not one that runs. Not one that hides. Not one that can fend for itself. A creature that can communicate, if only the simplest, most inherent message: I need help.

idk, I was just thinking about how she died so young...and how Maya is already older than her in the current aa timeline :(

I never see people draw her older. I'm sure I'm far from the first, it's just not something I've personally seen yet. I wanted to see a happy older Mia, so I drew that.

The text. I also dont know. It just felt right.

I'm imagining she's visiting Maya in her dreams, and this is what Maya dreams of her looking like. A version of her that got to see Maya and pearl grow up, to be there with Diego, to simply be there for the people she cares about and that care about her.

look. sometimes I just start drawing and don't think too hard about it. sometimes I draw my idea and figure out the context later. It's 9 am and I haven't slept so idek if my sentences sound ok.

Let the pain begin x) That whole episode with young Nick in court can be looked at from a different, non-comedic perspective. There was not just a pathetic crying boy, but actually a young man who was trying to protect his beloved and until the last minute he couldn't believe that she didn't love him, despised him, and wanted to kill him. And something tells me that even after finding out the truth about her, Nick didn't get over it that easily. A wound like that doesn't heal quickly. So even with all the signs that things are different with Edgie, it's hard for Nick to get past the dread of not getting fucked immediately after confessing his love. Now that's a theme that I want to explore. Fasten your seat belts. It's not gonna get any less bloody.
