If you call him "disrespectful" when he says or does something sexist and you've also called him "disrespectful" for backtalk, eye rolling, muttering, or breathing loudly, he'll think you're just being an unreasonable authority figure once again. If you spank him and try to teach him that domestic violence is wrong, he'll see you as a blatantly obvious hypocrite.

Single issue activism is useless, and your child will see right through it. You can't just add "women" to the list of people your child must respect on command. If you want to prevent your child from becoming a bigot, you have to teach him to recognize bigotry in all forms, including when it's coming from you.
