Afo - Blog Posts

Do you think the dad for one theory has a shaky evidence? Asides from the doctor and physical appearance thing, what are the other firm theories to convince that it's true.

Hisashi was mentionned once in 330 chapters in a manga where we've met Jirou's parents. Add to that how AFO's face is always shadowed.

Seriously, Izuku was hospitalized so many times and no mention of his father.

AFO ignoring Izuku in Kamino despite having Search, X-Ray quirk and the kid hiding six meters away from him behind a flimsy wall.

AFO telling All Might that he loathes him because "You took something from me!"

The only moment in the anime when AFO is raising his voice is when he calls Izuku by his full name and he keeps giving All Might shit for being a bad teacher.

Izuku getting the quirks of the past OFA users, something that never happened before.

There are about three times where AFO calls Izuku by name. Always his full name. 1. While fighting All Might. 2. In the Vestige world. 3. At the end of the war arc, where ShigarAFO was evacuated by the noumus. Every time it happens, there is virtually no one around. (He was planning to kill All Might, the Vestiges can't snitch, and neither can the noumus)

Speaking of the end of the war arc, what AFO used to push back Izuku was a love tap compared to what he could have done. And since his hand was shown bleeding immediately after, it really looks like he held back and hurt himself doing so.

Machia smelling "two masters" when Shigaraki and Izuku are fighting during the war arc.

Izuku loving quirks and his mumbling is acknowledged in-universe as creepy. AFO is shown to mumble about quirks during Kamino.

Izuku is shown to be more fragile than his classmates. Bakugou was thrown through a wall, Todoroki took a building on the neck, and so on. One could argue that Izuku's bone breaking tendencies are because OFA got ridiculously buffed during All Might's time but again, during Kamino, AFO is shown shaking his hand as if he is in pain after using the air canon that sent All Might through three buildings.

Seriously, if AFO really wanted to end the OFA line, he could have kidnapped Izuku any time between the Sport Festival and the moment when he went to the dorms. He knew who Izuku was and it would have been so easy.

There are probably more things but I am tired.

I find it funny that people deny the DFO theory because AFO doesn't look like Izuku. Have they read or watched "Fullmetal Alchemist"?

Why I think Dad for One is canon (A long-ass essay)

Just putting my two cents on this theory. I saw someone recently post an analysis and a bunch of proof, and I thought some things were missing/not clear. Just wanted to voice my thoughts before this theory is confirmed or denied.

=======================================

Just a warning: I found most of these points while doing research, so some of them are a bit repetitive and not my original ideas; I just wanted to put all the proof in one place. Also spoilers ahead obviously.

=======================================

Part 1: Who is Hisashi Midoriya

·       Inko’s husband

·       Father of Izuku

·       Has a fire breathing quirk

·       Took a work post abroad

That’s literally all we know about him. He is only mentioned in the series once (Chapter/Episode 1), when Inko visits a pediatrician who asks about him, which is how we found out about his fire quirk.

The name “Hisashi” comes from the Japanese phrase “Hisashiburi”, meaning a long time (since the last time) or first in a long time. This could insinuate it’s been a long time since he has seen his family; or, since we know All for One is 150+ years old, the phrase could insinuate he’s been alive for a long time.

I also want to point out the Kanji in this name. Horikoshi likes to sneak in easter eggs or certain hints in the names of the BNHA characters. This is what I found:

The kanji used to write the name “Hisashi”:

·       久: “long time”

·       永: “eternal”

·       尚: “still”

·       彌: “complete”

·       長: “long”

·       寿: “life”

·       昶: “long day”

It clearly emphasizes the “Long time” part.

I want to point out another aspect in his name, the “Midoriya” part.

There could be 2 possibilities:

1.     Either All for One made up this last name

2.     “Midoriya” is actually Inko’s maiden name she gave him and Izuku

Now I see a lot of people saying it’s common for Japanese men to take their wives last names’, but I don’t see anyone posting proof (from the series) about this. We don’t know how common this is in the BNHA universe; until I came across this:

Why I Think Dad For One Is Canon (A Long-ass Essay)

So we now know this is a common practice in the BNHA universe. It doesn’t seem far fetched that All for One wanted to forget about his past/past family and have a new family. I think him taking the “Midoriya” from Inko was like a new beginning for him. He didn’t want to associate his new family with his criminal activities or his past.

Part 2: The Quirk

Hisashi Midoriya has been confirmed to have a fire breathing quirk.

Now why fire breathing?

I guess its simple and wouldn’t cause too much trouble. He didn’t want anything flashy in case it attracted unwanted attention.

All for One has AT LEAST one fire-based quirk. We see proof of this throughout the series.

Why I Think Dad For One Is Canon (A Long-ass Essay)
Why I Think Dad For One Is Canon (A Long-ass Essay)

In both photos, AFO is using a fire quirk. So we can now confirm he has at least 2.

Bonus point: Notice how AFO never specifically uses fire breathing. This is because he would damage his oxygen mask and respiratory support. He can’t use this quirk. How ironic and well timed is that?

Part 3: His “work” abroad

I heard many people say they think Hisashi works in America, which I think is highly likely.

Why I Think Dad For One Is Canon (A Long-ass Essay)
Why I Think Dad For One Is Canon (A Long-ass Essay)
Why I Think Dad For One Is Canon (A Long-ass Essay)

We know AFO has been overseas. Especially America. In the manga panel above, is an image of the Chrysler Building in New York. Different angles but its clearly the same building. AFO could be sending letters, payments, packages to the Midoriyas from New York; to make it look like he was working a normal job in the US.

Part 4: Izuku and genetics

1.     I want to point out Izuku looks more like his mother then father. We know this because he gets most of his colors and features from his mother. This isn’t really surprising, as we see other main characters, like Shoto Todoroki and Katsuki Bakugo who get most physical features from their mother. Denki and Jiro are other examples.

2.     Izuku does indeed have some resemblance to All for One. Not just in one panel, but SEVERAL. Here are just a few examples:

Why I Think Dad For One Is Canon (A Long-ass Essay)
Why I Think Dad For One Is Canon (A Long-ass Essay)
Why I Think Dad For One Is Canon (A Long-ass Essay)
Why I Think Dad For One Is Canon (A Long-ass Essay)

I don’t see any other person in the same poses as Izuku and AFO. Coincidence? Also, a young AFO bears very strong resemblance to Izuku. I honestly think he cut his hair shorter as he got older.

3.     The x-ray: Let’s assume the x-ray the doctor shows in episode 1 is real. As generations pass and evolve, the extra joint in the pinky toe disappears. It appears to be unnecessary. Let’s assume both Hisashi and Inko are forth generation users. They both would not have this feature. How is it possible that Izuku inherits it? AFO is a first-generation quirk user, it is 100% certain he has this extra joint, therefore passing it onto Izuku.

4.     All for One is very likely to have a quirkless child. More then 80% chance. Quirks back in his time were extremely rare. I know there are many other quirkless people (Melissa, Aoyama, Jiro’s father), but its very rare and unlikely. The quirk gene should be dominant.  You see most of the older generation having more quirkless individuals then the new generation. There is a 20% quirkless population worldwide. Don’t forget that Dr. Ujiko runs several orphanages and hospitals worldwide. There is a chance he helped AFO steal quirks from children or even babies, later making them think they are quirkless, increasing the quirkless population.

5.     Izuku is very plain looking. In chapter 363, we see AFO’s true face. According to BNHA logic and even a lot of fans, he looks very plain, any ordinary guy you might see at a Home Depo on a Sunday. In a world where quirks make a person unique, this is a bit surprising. You see every character has a unique feature connected to their quirk. Both Izuku and AFO are just plain looking characters.

6.     Ever notice how much Izuku gets injured when using OFA? More then he should? Maybe its because his body isn’t evolved enough to be able to handle such evolved quirks (Quirk singularity). If this is true, Izuku being a first-generation user makes sense. AFO’s body cannot handle how strong quirks have gotten, which is why he used Tomura Shigaraki as a vessel. Izuku must have the same body type.

7.     Usually, people who use more then one quirk become brain-dead monsters. That’s why Nomu exist. Izuku has like, what, 7 quirks now from the previous users? How does his body handle all these quirks?

8.     Parallel to Yoichi Shigaraki: Yoichi (AFO’s brother) and Izuku are very similar. They both have a strong sense of justice, strong willpower, both love/want to be heroes, and both are OFA users who were previously quirkless. The series started with AFO and his family and will end with AFO and his family. Family is clearly an important theme, otherwise why give AFO a brother he loves? As Izuku looks like AFO, Tomura looks like Yoichi. Izuku and Shigaraki mirror AFO and his brother.

Part 5: The doctor

These two are the same people. You cannot tell me otherwise.

Why I Think Dad For One Is Canon (A Long-ass Essay)

He goes by many names, so lets just call him Dr. Ujiko. Dr. Ujiko was Izuku’s pediatrician, and the one who diagnosed Izuku quirkless. He is also AFO’s doctor and partner in crime. Now, why take Izuku to this specific doctor? That is a very odd coincidence. According to his wiki page, Dr. Ujiko is famous in the area for being the head of several hospitals and owning several orphanages. Meaning he is an important man. Clearly, many people would want to take their children to him.

Why I Think Dad For One Is Canon (A Long-ass Essay)

We see in chapter 301 Endeavor and his wife visit Dr. Ujiko. We know this because they are in the same building Inko and Izuku were in. Endeavor is an important hero and has a lot of influence, of course because he was desperate for a perfect child, he would only go to the best doctor.

Inko does not seem to have any influence or important backgrounds, how did she get an appointment with such an important man, who is well renowned and has celebrity heroes as his patients?

Hisashi Midoriya of course. He would have enough influence and know the doctor well enough to convince him to diagnose his son. AFO must have told the doctor about his wife and his child, and out of curiosity decided to take Izuku in as a patient. Maybe even agreed and conspired with AFO about the diagnosis.

Bonus point: I notice how Dr. Ujiko asks “What is your husbands quirk?” in the anime and some translations of the manga. A lot of fans say if he knew AFO was Hisashi, why would he ask such a question? AFO has many quirks, he likely does not know what quirk AFO told Inko he had.

Part 6: Parallels with Tomura Shigaraki

It has been confirmed that AFO and Tomura are a dark parallel to All Might and Izuku. Izuku was taken under All Might’s wing, a hero. Tomura was taken by AFO, a villain.

Wouldn’t it make sense, if Tomura’s ancestor was a hero, and Izuku’s ancestor a villain?

I heard a theorist say: “Tomura descends from a hero, while Izuku descends from a villain.”

Its literally a perfect parallel.

Part 7: AFO vs Izuku

There is almost NO direct interaction between Izuku and All for One.

Back to Kamino, when AFO revealed himself a few minutes before All Might appeared.

All for One KNEW Izuku and his friends were behind that wall. Because his stole Ragdolls quirk: Search.

“Search allows the user to monitor and observe up to a hundred people at a time. This includes knowing their locations and weak points. The individuals being observed are visualized through the Quirk as star-like vestiges and can allow the user to know their location up to even miles away. Search also permanently stores the information gained after its usage”

Why not attack Izuku or kill him and his friends when he had the chance? He has had so many opportunities. He killed all other previous users of OFA, why is Izuku an exception? Especially when, unlike All Might, it’s so easy for someone like AFO to kill Izuku because he has no control over OFA and not on pro-level yet.

Why I Think Dad For One Is Canon (A Long-ass Essay)

When AFO is later arrested, All Might asks if AFO wants to kill Izuku. AFO laughs and doesn’t confirm it. All Might made up that theory himself. AFO’s demeanor changes; it’s like AFO avoids talking about Izuku. For someone who is is very chatty, All for One is awfully quiet here.

Why I Think Dad For One Is Canon (A Long-ass Essay)

Bonus point: One thing I really can’t understand is why AFO talks shit about Izuku in the manga later (Chapter 287 specifically). Calling him “Worthless”, “Weak”, “Unworthy of the power”. He literally makes fun of him in the OFA world. Not something a father would do. However, what if he was just trying to break his spirit? Maybe destroy his self-worth in order to take him in and manipulate him into hating heroes? (lmao poor Izuku his dad is literally talking shit about him. Dad of the year y’all)

Why I Think Dad For One Is Canon (A Long-ass Essay)

Part 8: The Horikoshi interview

In 2018, when asked when Izuku Midoriya’s father will make an appearance, Horikoshi said this: “Deku’s father will be revealed in the future,”

Key word: Revealed

He said REVEALED not introduced.

Why I Think Dad For One Is Canon (A Long-ass Essay)

Meaning we have seen his father; we just don’t know it yet because it hasn’t been revealed.

I believe Horikoshi is a smart man; he clearly thinks before he speaks, and he has been definitely PR trained. Was this a hint? Foreshadowing?

Part 9: Fucking Star Wars

The most common annoying-ass argument that people bring up when it comes to this theory.

In all honesty, its just very cliché and repetitive. I think that’s why BNHA fans are against this theory. Horikoshi would just be plagiarizing Stars Wars at this point.

I also heard arguments like “We already have a Star Wars reveal, the whole Dabi saga and Tomura is Nana’s grandson”.

I think Horikoshi might pull the “I am your father” card as a final homage to the famous franchise. He had taken so many names and ideas from the franchise what will stop his from doing this?

Here are just A FEW examples of him using Star Wars for BNHA (I found these on the internet since I know nothing about Star Wars) :

·       Tatooine Station. A story has to start somewhere.

·       Hosu, Tokyo. A harsh place in both stories.

·       Wookiees. The furriest shopping mall ever!

·       Kamino. Makin’ copies!

·       All for One. Darth Vader doppelganger.

·       Mustafu: Named for Mustafar, the site of Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi’s last battle.

Its so blatantly obvious the man doesn’t even try to hide it. Literally took the same names. Did the Star Wars creator not sue him for copyright?

Also Parallels to the characters:

·       Deku is Luke

·       All might is Obi-Wan

·       Gran Torino is Yoda

Star Wars story in a nutshell: A teacher figure (All Might), takes in a nobody (Deku) to fight evil, and turns out the evil is his father (AFO).

Horikoshi has taken so much from Star Wars, why would it be surprising that he pulls this? We have had so many plot twists, surprises, and reveals throughout the story. Why wouldn’t he add more shock factor?

Part 10: Extra easter eggs and theories

1.     All for One’s prison number is 1541. The 41 stands for “For One”. What about the 15?

Why I Think Dad For One Is Canon (A Long-ass Essay)

 2.     Tomura and Izuku have similar red shoes. As a child and young adult, AFO gave Tomura the red shoes when he was found under the bridge; could he have bought Izuku the same/similar shoes from the same brand? Maybe an American brand?

Why I Think Dad For One Is Canon (A Long-ass Essay)

3.     In episode 76, when Deku fights against Overhaul, AFO’s theme plays.

4.     There is never any mention of Hisashi Midoriya after chapter/episode 1. Why? Whenever Izuku is in danger/on the verge of a tragedy, he calls for ‘Mom’ and ‘All Might’. Are Hisashi and Izuku not close? Wouldn’t a father overseas call his son or have a relationship with him? (As a university student who’s father has been working overseas for 5+ years I would know) Izuku doesn’t even acknowledge his father, not even in his thoughts. Hisashi has never once visited his family. Is this because of AFO’s injury he can’t see his son or wife?

5.     It makes no sense to introduce a new character so late. As of writing this, we are in the final war arc (chapter 364).

6.     “Wouldn’t Izuku recognize his fathers voice?” I think this is because Izuku was so young when his father left that he does not remember. Also, AFO uses a breathing mask. His voice is very strained especially after All Might left him disabled; he might have damaged his speech or vocal cords.

7.     Izuku is the only one who was able to talk to the vestiges of the previous OFA users.

8.     I heard a lot of people say “I doubt AFO would want to conceive a child”. How do you y’all know that? We don’t know what his moves are or what he’s thinking. His relationship with Inko and Izuku is either a loving one or an experiment. Who’s to say he doesn’t have other children out there? As long as he’s a man it’s possible. We don’t even know who he is, just that he wants to commit evil. That’s literally his personality.

9.     If Hisashi is clearly an absent figure, why even mention him? Why not say he died or divorced Inko if he’s not that relevant? Unless he’s important in the story later?

10.     The fascination with quirks. I have yet to see anyone other than Izuku mumble and be so fascinated with quirks. Oh wait-

Why I Think Dad For One Is Canon (A Long-ass Essay)

11.     A conveniently ironic tale indeed.

Could you tell me your thoughts on Nine as a character? I rarely meet fans of his. If you would indulge me, How about a bit of a what if, where Nine replaces Shigaraki and Shigaraki is a footnote in Nine's story? IE, Tomura is a movie villain in this universe.

I can assure you it's the same for me 😅 Nine fans are a rare species, but here we are.

As for what I think about him as a character? Uf... where even start?

I really find him to be way more interesting and rich in themes than most people think.

On the sense most people seem to take him as a one note character whitout any interesting trait, and calling him incorrectly a "might makes right" guy which hey, is in part true but that's just the surface.

Another thing I don't agree with most people is that Nine ideology is a very basic "the survival of the finest and only the strong deserve to live".

That's not really true. There's multiple hints that reveal parts of his true nature, especially when we have his POV in his origin chapter:

Could You Tell Me Your Thoughts On Nine As A Character? I Rarely Meet Fans Of His. If You Would Indulge

It always istruck me how Nine claims that under his ideal world everyone should aim to make their own way to top by pure strength, but simultaneusly he steps to defend the people he sees as oppressed by an unfair society.

And while some people make the argument of "he only cares about the people with strong quirk", but think about this: how he even knows his friends for example were that strong even before meet them?

His story only show these persons at their lowest point on life, yet by pure instinct Nine decided help them and offer them a hand without really demand nothing in exchange.

When he rescued Chimera is particulary powerful because we know Nine gets ill by using his quirk, yet he had no problem on create a massive storm just to save Chimera from the people who intended to kill him for being an heteromorph.

Could You Tell Me Your Thoughts On Nine As A Character? I Rarely Meet Fans Of His. If You Would Indulge

I really think Nine uses his ideology as a sort of defense mechanism due the circunstances he lived through most of his life. Which is logical as he was an orphan abandoded at what seemed to be a public bathroom at birth, which is sick af.

And it also relates to this particular line of his chapter:

Could You Tell Me Your Thoughts On Nine As A Character? I Rarely Meet Fans Of His. If You Would Indulge

"Everything is already decided" while we saw him being a child alone and multiple ominous smiles.

It really gives me the feeling that Nine actually felt a lot of abandonement and insolation while growing giving him idea that only the strongest should rule over the world, but at the same it can't really take away his selfless nature.

The fact Nine knows he was being used by the doctor, yet the only thing he thinks about going through the process are his friends even correcting himself by say "is for create OUR ideal world" shows how much he actually values the people close to him, to what extremes he's willing to go for give them what he considers fair.

Could You Tell Me Your Thoughts On Nine As A Character? I Rarely Meet Fans Of His. If You Would Indulge
Could You Tell Me Your Thoughts On Nine As A Character? I Rarely Meet Fans Of His. If You Would Indulge

And it's so powerful how even with his body destroyed and crawling on the ground Nine still keeps moving by the sheer will to make real his dream world.

It's an interesting way in which he parallels Deku on how he fights even at the cost of sacrifice and destroy his body just for the people he loves.

Could You Tell Me Your Thoughts On Nine As A Character? I Rarely Meet Fans Of His. If You Would Indulge

Kinda ironic if you think about the fact Horikoshi make his way to try to portray Shigaraki as "a hero for villains" despite that idea doesn't fit him at all, when Nine was already an heroic villain who parallels Deku a way that is pretty organic and logical.

I said a lot of times how funny is that is a fraction of time Nine not only executes the same ideas and concepts the main stroy try to apply to Shigaraki, but he does it better.

Nine story is really the story of an underdog who starts from the very bottom, having a really tragic life that molded his vision of a flawed world that should be destroyed, yet he feels very human on the way he relates to people on the same situation and he will do everything for them.

Is what really sells Nine as a character for me. None of these things are stated trying to convince us they happen like with Shigaraki, with Nine this stuff just... happen. Is the most basic show don't tell.

I wonder were that subtle and smart storytelling went in the main story.

...

Oh also, as you asked about the what if scenario, I have a slightly different idea for an AU in which Nine position is inverted with Shigaraki.

But rather than make it a shallow rivalry (as the movie kinda implies they have) I was thinking: what it Nine intends to save Shigaraki instead?

Could You Tell Me Your Thoughts On Nine As A Character? I Rarely Meet Fans Of His. If You Would Indulge

As I said before, is part of Nine's nature to help people no one else would do.

If he found Tenko Shimura that day he will attempt to rescue him and protect him while living both in the streets as homeless orphans. Which is ironic because they're likely a very similar age, just with Nine being slighty older apparently.

And what if they both are later found by AFO and he has ideas for both of them?

AFO will still have his main plan to make one of them "the next me" like in canon, in this case Nine being the candidate because our potato weirdo projects himself and Yoichi into Nine thinking the child is what both would be together.

Problem is... Nine isn't a emotionally disturbed kid who can be manipulated by AFO bs, so obviously when he realizes what are the man true intentions Nine will rebel and fight back. Probably escaping, as he and AFO aren't really compatible at all.

It's ironic as AFO is actually what Nine tried to convince himself he is, but in reality AFO is a selfish lunatic who only uses everyone for his own sake. That would make Nine have a lot of introspection and realizes he doesn't want to follow AFO steps, and neither wants Tenko/Tomura to have that fate.

But as probably Nine could escape alongside Tenko, he becames the next big opportunity on AFO plans, being manipulated into something similar to canon or even worse.

While Nine will still fight and try to save the kid he helped that day, perhaps he will came to late and if something like the island incident happens but using Shigaraki as the villain there, he probably will die being a defining moment of Nine developement as a character.

...

Well that was a bit long.

I could write even more, but that would be me going crazy and making a long bible lol.

Hope you enjoy the what if scenario. It's a bit improvised because I didn't think about the details yet, just a very basic storyline structure.

I haven't seen anyone commenting about something weird on how AFO is represented in the recent art by Horikoshi:

I Haven't Seen Anyone Commenting About Something Weird On How AFO Is Represented In The Recent Art By

That being the fact this is the "prime" version of him with his face restored, but wearing the final war outfit and maskless. Something clearly not possible in the story itself, as obviously that outfit was gone when he used rewind on himself for avoid die by the fire of Endeavor.

But the interesting part is that this isn't the first time Horikoshi draw AFO in this particular way, mixing his restored look with the purple jacket outfit.

The other time was in that cover in which he's facing Deku (a battle that never happened in the story, or at least not directly against his main body).

I Haven't Seen Anyone Commenting About Something Weird On How AFO Is Represented In The Recent Art By

In that other art AFO also has a unique look for his mask not being seen in the story, that looks vaguely like it was still broken and almost melted by Endeavor but pieced together again while still being red hot.

Also do you notice in neither of those arts AFO has the rewind effects over him? Considering it was the plot reason he recovered his face in the first place, is a bit weird that the art of Horikoshi doesn't present him being under rewind.

And yeah I know all this can be attributed to simple creative freedom and Horikoshi though mix both designs was cool or something.

But I can't help and make my theories about this.

Can these arts be a sort of "what if" scenario?

As I said before is interesting to remember that Deku never actually fight against AFO directly on his real body, they never even encouter each other in that state for that matter, they only interacted via ShigAFO.

So maybe Horikoshi at some point had a totally different display for the final battle? One that involved Deku vs AFO and a different use of rewind.

Considering in both arts "prime" AFO appears maskless with his outfit intact, I wonder if the real revelation moment when the heroes managed to destroy his new mask wasn't seeing his potato face, but he already got his face restored offscreen.

I Haven't Seen Anyone Commenting About Something Weird On How AFO Is Represented In The Recent Art By

Which could also explain why Horikoshi didn't drawn AFO with the rewind effects in the art. As probably the idea of him being on a time counter that will banish him wasn't originally part of the story and only was a leter addition.

So in this alternative scenario rather than go back to fight ShigAFO directly, Deku instead for some reason ends up in front of the original AFO and they have a real battle, just as it was represented in the cover art.

Don't know how the story should continue from that point, as it probably would change a lot more of how the rest of the final battle will play.

He's so big 🥲

Speaking seriously, he seem to be a big guy in general not just tall. These panels in particular always give me the feeling he's a very big guy despite not having a physical enhancer quirk.

If you were to turn 9 and his squad into main series villains, how would you do so?

Tough question actually, because there's a lot of different things you can do with a group of characters like them.

And I don't want to make the classic "role swap" in which everything in the timeline is almost the same minus which characters fill X spot.

If You Were To Turn 9 And His Squad Into Main Series Villains, How Would You Do So?
If You Were To Turn 9 And His Squad Into Main Series Villains, How Would You Do So?

For Nine specifically, I would start his story right after Kamino and the defeat of AFO.

An idea I would like to play is he and Shigaraki could actually act as rivals of sorts when AFO is out of the picture (but he would still have a part on the story).

As both groups will start from the very bottom without much resources, and Nine will have his empty copy of the AFO quirk to fill with new quirks different than the canon, perhaps only keeping the more iconic ones as Hydra just because is so cool.

Actually the quest for find the ideal quirks and one that solves the cell degeneration would be an important part of Nine developement, rather than just happen offscreen.

As for what new quirks he could steal, that's not something I don't have very clear yet (so I accept suggestions) but one of them would be Dabi's blueflames. Lol I just want see Nine with epic blue flames.

...

Oh and an idea that always loved is that Nine needs another rival that isn't just Shigaraki, but someone else who is his direct opposite in terms of world view and ideology.

And that's no one else than Overhaul

If You Were To Turn 9 And His Squad Into Main Series Villains, How Would You Do So?

Think about it, Nine and Kai are just the perfect foils for each other.

The concept of a quirk supremacist and an anti-quirk believer having a ideological (and literal) war for control the underworld and reform the world into their own view could be epic.

And for that to happen obviously we need to keep Kai as a recurring villain for most of the story. I would create a dynamic where a lot of villains groups will have internal battles while at the same time the heroes are another problem to deal.

But wait, you need soldiers for that to work.

And what best army for Nine than the one which literally believe in quirk supremacy?

If You Were To Turn 9 And His Squad Into Main Series Villains, How Would You Do So?

Look I will die on the hill that MVA as a concept for an arc is literally made for Nine and his team.

The idea of Re-Destro wanting to contact a villain group that is getting more recognition and in the end they found common ground due beliefs fits way more with Nine than it does to Shigaraki.

I mean it's obvious, Nine is basically the living incarnation of all the ideals of the original Destro. If his descendant meet him he would instantly adore Nine.

...

So that's just a part of all my ideas.

I would like to better put them together into something more consistent. Need to work on it, perhaps some day I will make a story based on this rewrite idea.

Which is funny and notice I said the anime, because in the manga neither Shigaraki or All For One are using (or have) shield quirks.

They likely use air cannon or some blast quirk in those scenes ->

Love The Fact The Anime Made The Three AFO Users Share The Same (or Almost The Same) Shield Quirk:

But Bones specifically changed that into quirks that resemble Nine's Air Wall quirk.

I like to think it's a tribute to my king 🤍

Love The Fact The Anime Made The Three AFO Users Share The Same (or Almost The Same) Shield Quirk:

However the shield quirks of the other two seem to be much weaker that Air Wall.

AFO shield quirk in particular is probably the worst, as it only covers a very small radious and it was destroyed by one Jet Burn from Endeavor.

Meanwhile Nine's version of the quirk can cover a gigantic radious if he user wants:

Love The Fact The Anime Made The Three AFO Users Share The Same (or Almost The Same) Shield Quirk:

Also Air Wall can stack multiple shields into one and it was powerful enough to stop a charge from Deku going full 100%

All this makes me think Air Wall is such a boosted quirk in general.

No wonder why Nine stole that one. Smart boy.

Kinda ironic and poetic to think despite being one his favorite quirks, AFO probably has no idea about spearlike bones being his mother's quirk.

Kinda Ironic And Poetic To Think Despite Being One His Favorite Quirks, AFO Probably Has No Idea About
Kinda Ironic And Poetic To Think Despite Being One His Favorite Quirks, AFO Probably Has No Idea About

I mean realistically he doesn't have any way to know it, but I think he has an unconscious sentimental connection with his mom quirk as corny it sounds.

His favoritism even seem made him collect quirks that resemble spearlike bones in look and functionality, such as Rivet Stab and one unknown "drills" quirk. Both used at the same time during his last battle with All Might btw.

Kinda Ironic And Poetic To Think Despite Being One His Favorite Quirks, AFO Probably Has No Idea About

Also how we can forget the fact spearlike bones is also the last quirk he ever used? (On his original body at least)

Horikoshi definitely knew what he was doing here. I can't help but think it's brillaint despite the whole story is far from perfect.

one could almost believe that yoichi birthed nine himself (afo fathered him)

I do believe it, hard to not when Nine looks like they got mixed into one person.

If you show this to someone who doesn't read MHA or don't have much context about the story, would they guess these are two separate characters?

I know! Nine in general would be an awesome villain for the main story, I'll die on that hill.

At the same time if AFO actually had eyes and was able to see Nine directly, he would have ended up in a vault Lmao. No way our dear demon lord let the perfect Yoichi clone to escape.

Horikoshi actually likes to imply a lot the idea of AFO projecting his obsession with Yoichi in different persons, like Shigaraki for example (even if in this case the parallel doesn't work quite well as with Nine). Or in a lesser degree with Dabi too.

We have panels like this as well:

I Know! Nine In General Would Be An Awesome Villain For The Main Story, I'll Die On That Hill.

And of course Nine and Shigaraki share their own set of visual parallels, which for a story standpoint makes sense as they're both in the same line of numerical experiments (another subplot totally wasted btw).

I Know! Nine In General Would Be An Awesome Villain For The Main Story, I'll Die On That Hill.
I Know! Nine In General Would Be An Awesome Villain For The Main Story, I'll Die On That Hill.

In general it feels like all this details and parallels were part of a bigger storyline that was cut short in the end, never reaching it's full potential (Shigaraki doesn't interact with Yoichi either for example).

So anyway we were robbed of having a big and interesting subplot with all the members of the Shigaraki family. Is a shame because it feels like AFO could have been a much more fully fleshed character.

MHA fans shouldn't ignore how beautiful Nine is.

However, I do wonder how and why AFO came to the conclusion that he needed a vessel powered by hate to steal OFA.

Like I know it's established that the will of OFA prevents the quirk from being stoled, but how AFO even knows that info?

Isn't like there was a moment in which AFO tried to steal OFA but the will thing rule prevented it. All the times he failed on steal the quirk it was because it was already passed to someone else and the previous user was running on the embers.

The only time something like this this happens is when Nine tried to steal the quirk from Deku in the movie, yet Nine interpret it as lack of starage space in his own copy (for obvious reasons he's not aware of the existence of the vestiges).

However, I Do Wonder How And Why AFO Came To The Conclusion That He Needed A Vessel Powered By Hate To

I feel this is kind of a plot hole unless I'm missing something.

And yet despite add super regen to AFO original body was pointless (dabatable) after the face injury, not doing it before getting his skull smashed still feels like a dumb move.

Yeah body failing and all, but with regen AFO would still pretty much invencible in the meanwhile as his new body was getting ready.

Not to mention, now we have the confirmation they copied Overhaul from young Kai but instead of use its healing properties to full extent they just used the quirk to create Decay makes all the plan seem even more stupid. How tf AFO and Ujiko would waste such a god tier like Overhaul on making it more shitty by getting rid of the best effect?

What are the reasons why All For One wanting a successor before his Injury? This is a question that I have never seen before so may give some reason why I think he might have done it: One is that "Life Force" Quirk may be reaching it's end. The possibility that it may end soon is big problem for All For One so he is planning to get a younger body like Orochimaru or a better Quirk to keep him young then "Live Force". Two is, and I don't know where it comes from, but in the Wiki, it says that "All For One's body cannot properly contain Quirks of newer generations,". So he might be afraid he might not be able to gain more power anymore in the future. So what do you think?

You're half right. All For One's body was failing, both in lifespan and function, because extensively damaged by All Might. So damaged that not even "Super Regeneration" couldn't fix him and he had to be on constant life support. And it was stated by Garaki that All For One was having trouble with Quirks of the newer generation. That he had a harder time controlling the more complex Quirks. Both of those could be a factor. That All For One wanted an immortal body to rule the world forever, giving and taking whatever Quirk he wanted. However, the successor plan was in motion decades before his injury and there wasn't anyone who was a threat to his empire. The real reason was because he wanted to use Tomura's hatred to get "One For All". "One For All" was annoying at first, but was becoming a major problem to All For One, to the point that it ended up killing him. He couldn't beat the person who had it and he couldn't take it either. So he wanted to build up and use Tomura's hatred to take "One For All", finally ridding him of the biggest obstacle in his path.

You forgot to add a very important reason of why Sukuna is more universally beloved by pretty much the entire JJK fandom, whereas in MHA there's no villain who really fits this criteria (at least no serious villains because you can't count Gentle in this lmao).

Anyway, this reason is simply that Sukuna narrative role is pretty much perfectly defined and almost never deviates from being an evil bastard without almost any redeeming feature. Unlike Shigaraki for example, who is more or less the 2nd more appreciated villain behind Dabi, and the narrative constantly goes back and forth between him being pure evil and a misundestood victim who need to be saved.

Sukuna as well most JJK villains are pretty straighfoward in terms of being villains without lack atributes that makes them complex characters, something that MHA certainly lacks as Horikoshi has a problem to give his villains a victim conplex while makes the comically evil at the same time.

And look I know both series have different narrative porpuses for their villains, but then again AFO is much more similar to JJK villains in most aspects. Yet like you said a big difference on why he's not as beloved as the rest of the villains on his own series is simply because Horikoshi constantly downplays him in favor of Shigaraki for example.

It surely doesn't help that AFO isn't conventionally attractive for most of the series while Shigaraki certainly is, despite some people can joke about his look the reality is that he's drawn as attractive and this is reflected on how readers react to him.

If AFO looked like this for most of the series I'm sure the opinions about him would be much more inclined to he positive:

You Forgot To Add A Very Important Reason Of Why Sukuna Is More Universally Beloved By Pretty Much The
You Forgot To Add A Very Important Reason Of Why Sukuna Is More Universally Beloved By Pretty Much The
You Forgot To Add A Very Important Reason Of Why Sukuna Is More Universally Beloved By Pretty Much The

Is a shame Horikoshi dropped the ball so hard with AFO.

I have the feeling that he regreted get rid of him back in Kamino and later struggled to justify his return and glory moments. At the same time he can't fully commit to make AFO way to perfect because HK is still obsessed with Shigaraki for some reason.

There's no room for both villains obviously, and the one that should've stayed is AFO.

If Horikoshi made AFO the definitive villain from the very beginning without switch between him and Shigaraki every 5 minutes, and if AFO was always attractive and with more "aura" moments he would be equally loved as Sukuna?

Well who knows really, but in my opinion all these factors surely could have affected a lot of the public perception.

Same applies to other villains like Overhaul, who are more loved than AFO despite being equally evil as him but sadly Kai didn't last too much either so he's not as popular as Shigaraki who gets constant attention.

Hello, do you mind if I ask your opinion on this :

What do you think that made a villain/antagonist characters are loved by many people? Like, why do you think Sukuna (JJK) is more loved by fans compared to AFO or even Shigaraki (BNHA)?

Also, why do you think Bakugou (BNHA) & Gojo (JJK) are so well loved by the fans of both series?

And, I've read somewhere that "......if Gojo and Bakugou's characters were female (with the same personality) then they will be hated by many..." Do you agree?

P.s

I know you're anti Bakugou, sorry if it's made you uncomfortable to talk about character you dislike, I just love to read your writings.

There are many reasons as to why villains/antagonists are loved by many people, but if I had to sum it up I think that :

Compared to the protagonists, because the antagonists are already demonised and usually called out by the narrative, people tend to find the little redeeming qualities that antagonists have and exemplify it by a 1000 X almost babying the villains while doing the exact opposite to the heroes because the narrative treats the heroes the opposite.

However, when talking about why some antagonists like sukuna are liked a lot more than other antagonists such as AFO, there are a variety of such as :

Characteristics they may have. Sukuna by the jjk fandom is interpreted as someone who is actually intimidating, can be a bit funny but ultimately gets down to business and is seen as an actual threat unlike AFO who just becomes and is written terribly that he doesn't particularly add any tension or emotion into the story

Their goals. Sukuna wants power. He wants to be on top, and he is described as a force of nature that can't be controlled. Yes, in some certain circumstances, he and AFO are similar, but sukuna is able to convey his goals, and the overall development of them from beginning to end is just better than AFO especially with how connected he ends up being g to the jujitsu world.

Their narrative treatment. The way the narrative treats both AFO and sukuna is complete different and it's the way the narrative treats sukuna that makes sukuna more enjoyable and a better character as he for example, is given many opportunities to show case his destructive and malicious behaviour compared to AFO. In the series, AFO is a lot more like a parasite harming many factors of the writing, but this is quite the opposite to sukuna.

Essentially, I think this is the best way to explain the differences in sukuna and AFO and why sukuna is a lot more enjoyable to people and overall better written.

However, I would also like to add that, in general, people like villains a lot more if the said villains are attractive, have a sense of charisma + charm to them, and if the villain ends up being powerful. These criteria end up being checked by sukuna, and AFO kinda fails to meet them, taking in the general fandoms opinion.

Hello, Do You Mind If I Ask Your Opinion On This :
Hello, Do You Mind If I Ask Your Opinion On This :

As to why characters like bakugo and Gojo are really popular, I think the reasons for that are:

Attractiveness. People find these characters really attractive, and if you have ever been in a fandom, then you know the lengths people will go to, to protect a character who is good-looking. People will overlook the characters' flaws and even valid criticism just because a character is hot. (Like beauty privilege for characters is so insane that you have people trying to defend/justify mei mei because she is pretty)

Hello, Do You Mind If I Ask Your Opinion On This :

They're cool/they're badass. Ultimately, characters like bakugo and gojo are really cool. You see, a lot of people cheer them on because they think that this very powerful character is strong and they're someone who they kinda aspire to be as in that person is incredibly influential, they're strong, they're badass etc.

Hello, Do You Mind If I Ask Your Opinion On This :

People think they're well written. Characters being well written is a subjective opinion personally I think gojo is a well written character but I don't think bakugo is a well written character. Ultimately, if a character is incredibly dynamic within the series they tend to change and get more moments that makes the audience connect with them.

Hello, Do You Mind If I Ask Your Opinion On This :

Now with the statement below I kinda have mixed opinions on it.

Yes, misoginor in fandoms is a big problem that affects the interpretation of characters, and yes, it's been established that people tend to treat female characters a lot more harshly than male characters. Due to this, we got the whole you can't handle complex female characters trend. However, as time passes, I do like to believe that misoginor and racism in fandoms are problems that are becoming more recognised and that more and more people are starting to actually understand characters without being racist or misogynistic.

However, I understand that this is a very idealistic and optimistic view so I will say that if bakugo and gojo were to be female characters with the same personality you would probably have SOME people hate them due to misoginor.

But alas, I think that they wouldn't be as hated and would still be popular. I mean, in MHA, we literally have miriko, who is liked by many fans, and she, in my opinion, is very similar to bakugo.

(Gojo, on the other hand, might be a bit more complicated case)

Hello, Do You Mind If I Ask Your Opinion On This :

Before ending this, I wanna say that there seems to be certain character flaws that people like or hate more if a character has them.

For example, there are certain character traits that make people hate characters no matter if they're protagonists or antagonsit or in between. These characteristics are :

Naivety

Ignorance

Hypocrisy

"Crybaby" characters

Cowards

I will say that these characteristics are things that people really hate in a character, and the fandom tends to hate characters that portray these characteristics at first. However, as you can see from the characters I have listed below, the fandom does slowly warm up to them after a while.

Hello, Do You Mind If I Ask Your Opinion On This :
Hello, Do You Mind If I Ask Your Opinion On This :
Hello, Do You Mind If I Ask Your Opinion On This :

Essentially, I can understand why people may hate characters with these traits, especially when the world they're in is built to jarringly contrast the characteristics they have, making them seem annoying to the viewers. However, they are needed to add a huge layer of complexity to the series a lot of the time.

I love this fan translation of Nine's origin chapter way more than the official. More specifically the first line of dialogue:

I Love This Fan Translation Of Nine's Origin Chapter Way More Than The Official. More Specifically The

"Storms calm my heart" just sound much more powerful in context and express a lot more of Nine as a character, and how he find comfort on storms and by extension his own power.

In case you wonder how the official translation is, here's the same page just colored:

I Love This Fan Translation Of Nine's Origin Chapter Way More Than The Official. More Specifically The

The 2nd part of the dialogue also sounds great in the official translation, in a sense the line is more raw than ambiguous. But that's not bad at all.

Whatever it is the official or fan translation, it's certainly amazing how much we can learn of Nine in just a single page of manga and how much Horikoshi was able to tell us about him in so less.

Oh boy, what could have been if Nine was a permanent part of the main story.

My reason for calling Overhaul the best Villain in the main series is because he's way more competent, driven and has a real threatening presence to him, compared to the other Villain Leaders.

AFO (Post Kamino) & Shigaraki aren't in his League.

They don't give off that feeling of dread. Shigaraki got AFO quirk to try and make him seem more imposing, but it wasn't enough since having a strong power isn't the only thing Overhaul had going for him.

AFO was decent until after his interrogation with All Might, where he became too comically evil for the sake of it (imo)

Re-Destro wasn't there for long but he did a ok job. The MLA did sell me as a competent group, considering the amount of money and connections they had. As well as their goal of free quirk use.

The only thing that was off was there belief of quirk supremacy, since the organisation's strength came from wealth and connections.

But other than that they were ok, it's too bad they were shoved to the side during the War.

Sorry for rambling

But yeah, that's my reason for Overhaul being the best Villain in MHA

Your reasoning for think that is almost the same as mine.

But also Overhaul ideals and objectives felt different and way more grounded in the sense it doesn't feel like he blames society for everything and his only answer is mindless destruction.

He actually persue change but in way that almost makes sense, and his mindset offers a very interesting perspective about quirks that this series always avoid to exploit. Like is funny how Horikoshi puts constant references to the doomsday theory being something very real, yet no one in verse tries to do something about it and any character who doesn't like quiks is treated as a crazy monster to invalidate their opinions.

Chisaki is also different to other villains in the sense that despite his life is pretty tragic he never gets victimized by the author, something I can appreciate because honestly the most annoying part about the LOV for example is how the story constantly pats them in the back and tries to pretend their are just victims when they passed that point long ago.

Kai on the other hand gets a treatment so harsh that makes me wonder if Horikoshi actually hates him with passion, because holy hell since his defeat Horikoshi really doesn't hold back on try to put him as miserable as possible and with no chance of improve his situation even a bit. It felt like a massive double standard when you see how much the LOV gets glazed.

Well... this kinda became a rant on my part, but I need to express it as Overhaul really deserved a way better treatment because in terms of villains he was the peak and MHA never had something similar again.

My Reason For Calling Overhaul The Best Villain In The Main Series Is Because He's Way More Competent,

I still find interesting how Nine not only looks like he got physical traits from both AFO and Yoichi, but his eyes especially look like a mix of both.

I Still Find Interesting How Nine Not Only Looks Like He Got Physical Traits From Both AFO And Yoichi,

The grey/silver iris color of All For One, but with white pupils like Yoichi and that thick black circle around the iris.

Perhaps the best eyes in all MHA.

Also you can't say Nine isn't somehow related to the Shigaraki bros... this can't be just a coincidence.
