New Kubo Art: The Original Gotei 13
captains and lieutenants
Man. I really just want to play Scarlet. I want to meet a bunch of new Pokémon and have a great time. Unfortunately, my double pack is getting delivered so I can’t play it right away on Friday. Got the double pack because my wife and I both love Pokémon. And this way we can trade version exclusives! Really should’ve ordered it for pickup. Oh well. I’m going Ninja Sex Party in concert tomorrow so that’ll tide me over. And if the games take a while to come in I can just watch the new episode of the Bleach dub. It’s been pretty good so far. I’m starting to ramble a bit, aren’t I? Anyway, I’m excited for Pokémon and I can’t wait! :D
Okay, I've had this account for several months now and I'm realizing that I never really introduced myself. So that's what this is.
Hi! I'm Getsu! I'm really shy! And I love anime, manga, and video games! I'm a big Nintendo person and I read a lot of shonen manga. As for anime, I like a lot of different kinds. Action, battle, slice of life, comedy, thriller, etc. I'll go into specifics here in a sec. I'm 29 years old, married, and have both Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD. I made this account intially because I was getting back into Bleach but I realized that I can focus on all of my special interests in a much more organized way than Twitter, which is nice. :D So this will be an amalgam of things I like. YAY! If anyone is curious about my Twitter, mutuals can DM me. I use my real name there so yeah. Though, considering Twitter might crash and burn I may just change my user name here. We'll see. Uh, what else? Oh, right! Specifics!
Anime/manga I really like: One Piece, Bleach, Mob Psycho 100, Jujutsu Kaisen, Komi Can't Communicate, Oddtaxi, Chainsaw Man, Haikyuu!, Kuroko's Basketball, Spy x Family, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Fullmetal Alchemist, Demon Slayer, Dr. Stone, Laid-Back Camp and so much more!
New manga I that I really like that I always recommend: Akane-Banashi, Sakamoto Days, Blue Box, Mission: Yozakura Family, Kaiju No. 8, and Mashle: Magic & Muscles.
VIDEO GAMES: Mario, Zelda, Kingdom Hearts, Kirby, Pokémon, Super Smash Bros., Xenoblade Chronicles, and Splatoon for specific games. As for genres: RPG's, JRPG's, platformers, metroidvanias, action games (ex: Devil May Cry, Bayonetta), puzzle games, big open exploration stuff, heavy narrative driven games (ex: Bioshock, Edith Finch), arcade style games, comfy games, and party games (Mario Party, Mario Kart, Jackbox).
I actually used to stream on Twitch regularly. I've been on hiatus from that since August. I plan to come back the week after Thanksgiving so I might change my user name around then. Just a heads up. Okay, I think that's everything. Sorry if this got kinda rambly. I hope that I can share my love for my interests and maybe meet some new friends! If you read this far, thanks!
EDIT: Changing my name because Twitter is dying. Will fix in the morning.
Just so people in the US know, Hulu will be raising their subscription price next Monday, when Bleach: The Thousand-Year Blood War premieres. I signed up for the ad plan which is currently $6.99 and will be $7.99 on October 10th. I assume the no ads plan will be similar. I know this isn’t a huge price increase but I still think it’s worth mentioning. So get your free trials while you can.
If you’re still taking responses for the Stupid Innocuous Bleach Faves, I love that Ichigo reads Shakespeare. Like, he doesn’t just have a casual interest. He went to college to study English Literature and became a translator. The man really likes Shakespeare. And that makes me wonder, what’s Ichigo’s favorite comedy? Favorite tragedy? Historical play? Sonnet? Do he and Orihime look for theaters putting on Shakespeare productions for date nights? (Yes, and they have a great time.) Who does he talk to about Shakespeare? I’d like to think at first he only talks to Chad about it because Chad is a great listener. Then he meets Rukia and gets her into it because she loves drama. After he gets closer with Orihime he starts recommending plays to read: Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Midsummer to start. It makes me wonder what other authors he enjoys. Agatha Christie? Jane Austen? Mark Twain? Who knows? Anyway, I just love that Ichigo is a book nerd. Specifically a Shakespeare nerd.
Stupid Innocuous Best Fave
MAN I wish I knew more about Shakespeare so I could pick out all the plays and sonnets that would be Ichigo's faves! But I've only read the few plays you get through the US public school system (mine were Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer's Night Dream, The Merchant of Venice, one of the King Henry plays, and a truly terrible high school production of Julius Caesar, which was also somehow both a sci-fi AU and a musical) and one quarter of Jacobean Shakespeare in undergrad. BUT I agree with everything you've listed here and all of these headcanons, and want to add one more.
Ichigo's favorite filmic adaptation of Shakespeare is The Merchant of Venice (2004), because Al Pacino, ICHIGO'S FAVORITE ACTOR, plays Shylock, and imho does it absolutely splendidly. He is just so good at speaking Shakespearean English and making it sound fluid and natural:
Granted, I haven't seen this movie in like 15 years, so ymmv, but I would 100% watch it again--both for Al Pacino and for Ichigo!
Q: do you believe in horoscopes?
The Karakura Gang only knew the Ichigo's Urahara, the guy who bowed in apologies to their friend and is always helping. And the new shinigami generation most know him as Ichigos's mentor. And after two wars and so many rebellions Urahara is respected and look up. The old shinigami generation still confused how that happened. Urahara is the most confused.
I could see that. Urahara has all these teenagers/younger generation of Shinigami hanging out in his shop every day, and whenever one of the Gotei 13 stop by, they just… don’t get it. Like, this is Urahara, practically a sociopath in some ways, with more blood on his hands than most people they know and a tendency for not-strictly-legal experiments, and they don’t understand why Ichigo and co. just don’t seem to get it. Maybe they don’t know. So Rukia and Renji get warned, and they mention it to Ichigo, but from Renji’s experience, all he really knows of Urahara is the guy calling him a freeloader all the time and making him stock shelves and do chores, and it’s annoying but not exactly evil. And yeah, Urahara placed the Hogyoku in Rukia, but the guy apologized, maybe because Ichigo made him, but things turned out fine in the end, and the fact that he listens to Ichigo at all is a sticking point for her. Ichigo makes her want to strangle him sometimes, but he’s got a good eye for people, for who they are on the inside, and he makes them loyal, makes them better, and if Urahara’s willing to follow Ichigo’s lead, then she thinks she can at least trust him not to deliberately throw them into the deep end again.
The others - Ishida, Chad, Inoue - they witnessed Urahara apologizing to Ichigo. And they didn’t know a lot about him, but even they could tell that behind the jokes and sly smiles and collected calm was enough pride that the man wouldn’t bow to just anyone. But the guy knelt and bowed and apologized to Ichigo, tossed his pride aside and let a teenager judge him, the last thing any of them expected him to do, and a man like that probably deserves at least a second chance. Besides, Ichigo forgave him, so it seems kind of pointless for any of them to hold a grudge. Even to Ishida, Urahara’s mostly okay for a Shinigami. At least he’s not Kurotsuchi.
And Ichigo. Ichigo didn’t really expect Urahara to admit he was in the wrong either. He didn’t seem the type. If he did fuck up, he seemed the sort to gloss over it and try to fix it and possibly fuck up some more, but not apologize for any of it, much less put himself out there like he did for Ichigo when he didn’t even expect Ichigo to forgive him. So whatever, Urahara kind of screwed them over a bit, screwed Rukia over a lot, but it’s not like he didn’t help them too, as much as he could, and Ichigo figures so long as he doesn’t do it again, he can let bygones be bygones. And it turns out, Urahara mostly doesn’t do it again. He helps them through war and a fuck-ton of rebellions and invasions and almost-end-of-the-worlds, he never asks for anything in return, and he’s always willing to lend them a hand or teach them something they don’t know. He never sides with the Gotei 13, always with them, and that’s worth more than Ichigo can say. Even Shinji and the others hopped back into the Gotei 13 as soon as they could. Urahara stayed. That’s worth a lot in Ichigo’s books. Yeah, he ignored him just like all the others in those two years Ichigo lost his powers, which was incidentally also partially Urahara’s fault, but he was also the one who came up with a way to restore them, and by that point, Ichigo’s fond enough of him that there’s actually fairly little he wouldn’t forgive the guy for.
He gets hints of Urahara’s past throughout their acquaintance, and the older generation of Shinigami eventually tell him more through Rukia and Renji, but to Ichigo, it’s the present that matters, it’s what Urahara does now that matters, and what he does now is help, no matter what the situation is, no matter the time, and he’s always solidly in their corner, even more than the Visored or Ichigo’s own dad. Urahara’s a friend at this point, and Ichigo is notorious for fighting anyone who fucks with his friends.
For his part, Urahara doesn’t know when his shop became central station for the spiritually aware population of Karakura. The place is a lot busier these days, he gets Ichigo and his friends doing their homework at his dining table, Abarai-san comes down once in a while and grumbles his way through “budgeting all his shit properly”, and Rukia tags along and regularly buys Chappy merchandise from him even though he knows there are perfectly good stores in Seireitei that sell the same things.
Ichigo most of all comes over for tea, often (Ichigo makes the tea too). Sometimes he stays for dinner, and Urahara finds himself enjoying his company. They don’t even talk about Shinigami issues most of the time, and they don’t run out of conversation.
(Eventually, when they’re in Seireitei and some random Shinigami - old enough to remember the rumours of what Urahara Kisuke was infamous for - makes a snide comment and sneers and trashtalks him to his buddies, well, Urahara doesn’t care. He’s heard worse, and it’s not entirely an undeserved reputation. But Ichigo takes exception, because who the fuck does this guy think he is, acting like he has the right to judge one of Ichigo’s people when he’s willing to bet the asshole has never exchanged a single word with Urahara? The bastard keeps talking, and between one blink and the next, Ichigo’s punted him through a wall, Eleventh Division style, hard enough that he’ll be in the Fourth for a while. Inoue blinks after the guy and very pointedly doesn’t offer to heal him, Ishida sniffs disdainfully and mutters contemptuously about Shinigami, and Chad flashes his arm at one of the idiots who looks like they want to try taking them on. He changes his mind quickly.
They proceed to drag an utterly bemused Urahara out of there. Later, he finds out Rukia and Renji managed to get the group demoted as well. It’s a novel experience for him, having people defend him, even when he doesn’t need it.)
@wolfsrainrules @north-peach IT’S HERE!!
This is very long????????????
(also writing this really drove home another one of those moments where i’m just like “what the FLIP I have FAMILY as young as this hero WHAT ARE THE GROWNUPS DOING”)
Ichigo is immediately like “a person who Knows Things! Who’s willing to Tell Me Those Things!” and sits down and lays out everything he’s been mentally and not-so-mentally screaming about since he got STABBED with a SWORD and got up with MAGIC POWERS. Byakuya eventually meanders them to his estate and orders tea and half of soul society feels Judged even though they’re not sure where it’s coming from. Byakuya is massively unimpressed with Everything.
Whether this is right after the first invasion or later would change some things, but in any era what the fallout mostly boils down to is the Gotei freaking out because suddenly! The super-powerful kid they’ve had running around is asking questions! And doing things!! Legally!!!
Ichigo puts Byakuya on speed dial on his soul phone and calls him up every time he thinks of a problem or someone tries harassing him or Isshin says something that just. Doesn’t add up.
And eventually he just starts calling Byakuya to yell about shinigami nonsense around town (his bedroom is no longer marked as a safe house, has the esteemed Gotei 13 fallen so low–), about theories and experiments he’s doing to adapt kido to his reiatsu levels, about history and science and reishi architecture and whatever else catches his interests, and Byakuya pretty much always picks up, even if it’s just to tell him that he’s in a meeting and setting a time for them to talk, and when he visits soul society he has friends who are eager to see him but he always spends some time at Byakuya’s.
(more under the cut!)

If the new Bleach anime won’t give us filler about Urahara, Orihime & Chad travelling with Grimmjow to meet Ichigo then I riot. I mean the sheer concept of this team is hilarious. Can you imagine Grimmjow having to put up with not one, but two adorable pacifists and one extra irritating shady man, all at once? He’d explode every other minute and I’m here for every second of it.
Also what was the deal he made with Urahara?! We oughta find out, c’mon.
If not normal filler, then at least some comedic specials after episodes, like…
Orihime cooking for them & sucking at it so much that she somehow manages to ruin even the Hueco Mundo reiatsu that Hollows eat.
Chad seeing Grimmjow’s resurreccion form and being in total awe bc KITTY. We’re talking “must adopt and protect”-mode here (Grimm’s even already dead too, just like the parakeet boy was lol).
Urahara getting them new outfits bc where else did they get them from?! Him basically going “you show off your chest, you show off your chest, everybo–…. err, no, you cover up your chest for a change lmao”. Just to piss everyone off.
She genuinely so pretty. How can anyone hate her.
