if theres one thing i hate the most about the jily fandom is when they headcanon that lily's hatred towards james was purely insecurity cause she didnt believed he was actually in love with her and thought it was just a joke

LIKE PLEASE STOP james was a bully and a dick, lily used to hate him cuz she only knew the worst aspects of him. pre jily angst is interesting cuz at some point lily saw other side of him that she fell for and she had to deal with the turbulent feelings that the different sides of james brings to her, not because "oh james is so popular and cool, he would never fall for someone like me" type of shit

i also like to imagine that james fell in love with lily much later than people think, around sixth year. for me, before that, he thought she was pretty but didn't like her very much. but thats just me and my headcanons based on how i feel reading their interactions in snape's worts memory, it feels more like james trying to annoy her than him actually in love

i put this on a reblog but it deserves its own post tbh:

james defo had a crush on regulus in 6th year but in 7th year when he started dating lily, it was all forgotten. regulus had a crush on james in 2nd-4th year but after sirius ran away, regulus hated james and he had enough problems to deal with at home anyways. at least thats how i would see canon jegulus. its unrequited on both ends and they liked each other at different times. i also think james' crush was more attraction+sympathy for regulus' situation

if jily + other marauders era characters weren't in the houses they are in:

james would be a cute little hufflepuff because hes loyal af, kind (to people who deserve it) and also he is an excellent cook (my hc)

lily evans is a ravenclaw, and there is no argument for her being slytherin. a) she would probably be murdered or tortured for being muggleborn, b) she THIRSTS for knowledge (and james potter) and is extremely creative and witty and self-aware. plus shes (in most fanfics i read) excellent at charms which is flitwicks class.

anyways if they werent the ultimate gryffindor head boy/girl couple, they would be the huffleclaw head boy/girl couple that everyone adored.

I know this is a common headcannon among the fandom, but Remus curses SO MUCH. He doesn't even need to be angry or smth he just curses. Theyre super creative and graphic too not basic, everyday things like fuck (once he called a guy who tried to grope Lily "a failed abortion and a massive, dissappointing cunt".) It was torture to get that habit under control after Harry was born - Lily and James had a jar in their home and everytime "uncle Remie" cursed in front of the baby he had to put in a dollar. They ended up buying Harry one of his first toys with said money because Remus just cursed THAT MUCH

Regulus knew James would fight for him no matter what. That he would put himself in harm's way for Regulus, Death Eaters, and Dark Lord be damned. The only way he could think of to protect James was to absolutely make him hate him. Regulus put the performance of a lifetime, insulting Jame's best friends, saying horrible things about muggleborns and halfbloods and being a true imitation of his mother. James could only just whisper "please don't do this," but when Regulus cruelly insulted Remu's lycanthropy, he just couldn't do it anymore. James found comfort in Lily's arms, knowing that she too was heartbroken by Mary. Regulus had to watch the man he loved being in a relationship with the girl he told him not to worry about thinking that if James moved on so quickly, their relationship probably didn't mean anything to him. James had to go through the rest of his life thinking that Regulus hated him and trying very hard to hate him back but absolutely failing, because when he closed his eyes at night all he could think about was dark black curls and stars

Raging bisexuals Lily and James who get so deeply offended when someone assumes they're straight just because they're a couple. These bitches are the first at the Pride Parade wearing these silly ass " bi wife" and "bi husband" t-shirts. Lily also did Jame's makeup inspired by the bisexual flag color platte and they both looked so amazing, they got hit on SO MUCH "Soo are you looking for a third?" ok um marauders band au but it’s the 90’s and they all go to a creative arts boarding school and are in the schools music program

the marauders start a band after james falls in love with lily, the singer of her own band with mary and marlene :)

the marauders r kinda like “umm cringe af.” at first but they get really into it very quickly

the girls take notice and lilys kinda weirded out bc it’s obviously a tactic to get close to her

but after realising how dedicated james and the other r she lets her guard down and rehearsed with them from time to time.
