Chapter 7 - Hit First, Ask Later
Summary: You see him again on your first day of college. Fuck. Toji Zenin has been the bane of your existence since your first day of kindergarten. Over the 15 years you’ve had the “pleasure” of knowing him, he’s made it his personal mission to make your life a living hell. From chopping off your hair in kindergarten to pushing you into a pond on your first day of high school, Toji has done it all. You’d always thought he would choose a college far away from you, but as it has always been, fate came to kick your ass. Hard.

The gym is practically empty when you step inside, save for one familiar figure leaning against the mats. Toji’s already there, gym bag at his feet, wrapped hands resting lazily over his broad chest. He looks up when you walk in, and the flat expression on his face makes it very clear he’s unimpressed.
“You’re late,” he says, his voice dry.
You glance at the clock. “I’m two minutes late.”
“Two minutes too long,” he shoots back, pushing off the mats. “What, couldn’t decide which outfit screams I’m useless the loudest?”
Your jaw drops. “Excuse me?”
Toji grins—a sharp, taunting curve of his lips. “What? I’m just making sure you’re ready for this. Doubt anyone’ll care what you look like when they’re tryna drag you into a van.”
“You are insufferable,” you mutter, dropping your bag onto the floor with a loud thud.
“And you’re two minutes into wasting my time,” he counters, motioning toward the center mat. “Start stretching, princess. I don’t wanna hear you whining when you pull something.”
Gritting your teeth, you sit down to stretch. Toji’s pacing in front of you, all broad strides and sharp glares, like he’s waiting for you to screw up already. “You’re hovering,” you say, annoyed.
“Making sure you don’t keel over mid-warmup.”
You shoot him a glare, but he just smirks and crouches down, watching you. Watching—as if he’s analyzing every movement. It’s both infuriating and unsettling.
“You done pretending you know what you’re doing?” he asks.
You straighten up, brushing your hair from your face. “I’m ready, coach.”
“Good,” Toji says, rising to his full height. “We’ll start with the basics—what to do if someone grabs you.” He steps forward, extending a hand. “I’ll grab your wrist. You try to get free.”
You eye him warily. “And if I can’t?”
“Then congratulations. You’d be kidnapped in five seconds flat.”
“Wow. Very motivating,” you deadpan.
He smirks. “Motivation’s for people who need hand-holding. You’re just here to survive.”
Before you can snap back, Toji grabs your wrist—firm, unyielding, but not enough to hurt. It’s a shock how easily his hand wraps around yours, like your bones could snap with just a flick of his fingers.
“Pull toward the thumb,” he instructs, voice curt. “Not the fingers. Thumb’s the weakest point.”
You yank experimentally, but his grip doesn’t budge. Toji doesn’t look the least bit phased. “You trying or just giving up already?”
“Give me a second!” you snap, tugging harder. You shift your weight and pull back the way he showed you, and to your surprise, his grip gives way.
Toji lets go, tilting his head with something that might be faint approval. “Huh. You’re not completely useless.”
“Oh my god, is that a compliment?”
“Don’t get used to it,” he says flatly, stepping back. “Again.”
You repeat the motion a few more times, each time smoother than the last. Toji keeps his commentary short, but it’s still sharp enough to grate on you.
“Quit overthinking. Your brain’s holding you back more than I am.”
“Don’t pull like you’re scared. You either get free or you don’t.”
“You call that fast? You’d be gone already.”
By the fifth time, you’re sweating and glaring daggers at him. “Do you have to be such a dick about this?”
Toji raises a brow, completely unfazed. “You want me to lie? Pat your head and tell you you’re doing great?”
“You could try not insulting me every five seconds,” you mutter under your breath.
“Where’s the fun in that?” he replies casually, and for the first time, you think you catch something almost playful in his voice.
He doesn’t give you a chance to respond before stepping behind you. “All right. New scenario. Someone grabs you from behind.”
You freeze. “Wait—from behind?”
“Yeah. Like this.”
Before you can react, his arm hooks loosely around your shoulders from behind. It’s not tight—he’s clearly not trying to hurt you—but the closeness throws you off balance. You stiffen, hyper-aware of how warm he feels and how close his voice is when he speaks.
“Relax,” he mutters. “You’re supposed to be learning, not freezing up.”
“Maybe I wouldn’t freeze if you warned me first,” you snap, trying to mask the nervous flutter in your stomach.
Toji huffs a low laugh. “Yeah, I’m sure kidnappers’ll give you a heads-up. Focus. Drop your weight, twist your hips, get out of my grip.”
You try to do what he says, but it’s clumsy—your weight’s off, and you can feel Toji roll his eyes behind you. “You’re not a statue. Move, dammit.”
“I’m trying!”
“Try harder.”
Frustrated, you shift your weight again, twist, and finally pull free, stumbling forward slightly. Toji watches you, arms crossed, expression unreadable. “Took you long enough,” he says, though his tone lacks real bite.
“That’s because you’re built like a damn brick wall,” you mutter, brushing yourself off.
Toji smirks faintly. “And whose fault is that? Yours for being weak, or mine for being me?”
You stare at him, incredulous. “You’re impossible.”
“And you’re predictable,” he fires back, turning to grab his water bottle. “Same time next week?”
You blink, surprised that he’s suggesting another session. “You want me to come back?”
Toji looks over his shoulder, a faint smirk on his lips. “You need it.”
“You’re the worst,” you mutter, though you can’t stop the small smile tugging at your mouth.
He shrugs. “Better me than someone who’ll actually hurt you.”
The words linger for a moment, heavier than his usual insults, and you’re not sure what to make of them. But before you can respond, Toji grabs his bag and heads for the door, tossing one last look at you over his shoulder.
“Try not to embarrass yourself next time.”
And just like that, he’s gone, leaving you standing alone on the mat, glaring after him—but this time, your frustration feels different. Because underneath it all, you know he’s right: you will be back next week.
And whether you admit it or not, a small part of you doesn’t mind.
Summary: Kento Nanami was perfect—disciplined, untouchable, and entirely focused on his future. Emotions didn’t fit into his plans.
You were everything he avoided—bold, warm, and impossible to ignore. You told yourself he didn’t matter, but you couldn’t stop watching him.

Enjoy!! 💋💋
The hum of conversation filled the lecture hall as students shuffled into their seats. You slid into your usual spot near the front, balancing your notebook and coffee. Glancing around, your eyes landed, as they often did, on Nanami. He sat a row over, posture rigid, eyes already fixed on the blank screen of his laptop.
“Good morning!” you greeted him with a cheerful smile.
His gaze flicked to you, cool and composed, before he gave a polite nod. “Morning.” His voice was low and smooth, completely neutral, but it sent a small thrill through you nonetheless.
Before you could say more, the professor strode in, clapping his hands for attention. “Good to see everyone awake! Today, I’m assigning your semester project—a team effort, whether you like it or not.”
Excited murmurs broke out around the room, but Nanami’s expression didn’t change. He sat motionless, his fingers hovering over his keyboard.
Your hand shot up. “Will we get to choose our partners?”
The professor smirked. “Nope. Partnerships are pre-assigned. Check the board.”
You turned eagerly toward the projector as the list popped up, scanning for your name. There it was, right beside—your heart skipped. Nanami Kento.
You glanced over at him, and he was already looking your way, his expression unreadable. He gave a small, courteous nod, as though confirming the pairing before returning to his screen.
Your smile widened. “Looks like we’re partners!”
“Seems that way,” he said, his tone calm and measured.
You leaned in slightly, resting your chin on your palm. “This’ll be fun! I’m sure we’ll make a great team.”
Nanami’s fingers tapped once on his keyboard before he looked back at you. “The goal isn’t fun. It’s results. Let’s aim for efficiency.”
You blinked, caught off guard by his bluntness, but your smile didn’t waver. “Of course! Efficiency and fun, though. We can do both.”
His brow twitched, barely perceptible, and he inclined his head again. “If you say so.”
As the professor began explaining the project, you couldn’t help but steal glances at him. Nanami was cold, detached, and impossibly focused. But for the first time, you had an excuse to talk to him—and you weren’t about to waste it.

You walk into the library and immediately spot Toji, who’s already at the table, arms crossed, staring at his phone. He doesn’t even look up as you sit down, his posture still relaxed like he owns the place.
“Bout time,” Toji muttered, not bothering to look up.
You didn’t respond, your fingers clicking away on the keyboard as you tried to focus on opening the project file.
After a beat, Toji leaned back and said, “What, you not talkin’ to me now?”
You finally looked up, your expression neutral. “Didn’t realize you wanted small talk.”
A smirk tugged at the corner of his lips, but there was something sharp behind it. “Didn’t realize you were the type to sulk. Or are you still mad about the other night?”
You blinked at him, confused for a second before his meaning hit you. “You mean at Gojo’s party?” you asked, voice flat.
Toji’s smirk deepened. “Yeah. Seemed like you and your boy had a real nice time.”
You frowned, already annoyed. “Gojo’s just a friend, Toji.”
“Sure,” he said, dragging out the word like he didn’t believe a single syllable of it. “Real friendly, huh? Touchin’ you, whisperin’ in your ear all night.”
You felt your irritation spike as you leaned forward, your eyes narrowing. “I’m not explaining myself to you. Gojo’s not my boyfriend. What I do or who I talk to has nothing to do with you.”
Toji leaned forward, resting his arms on the table. “Never said it did. Just funny, though.”
“What’s funny?” you snapped.
“That you’ve always been like this,” he said, his voice low and taunting. “Always needin’ attention, always makin’ sure people notice you. And now you’ve got Gojo all over you? Guess you really are his type.”
The way he said it, like it was some kind of insult, made your chest tighten. You sat up straighter, your hands gripping the edge of the table. “What the hell is your problem, Toji?”
His smirk didn’t waver, but his eyes sharpened. “Ain’t got one. Just callin’ it how I see it.”
That was the last straw. You slammed your laptop shut, the sound loud enough to make him blink.
“You’ve been a jerk to me for years,” you hissed, keeping your voice low despite the anger bubbling inside you. “Fifteen years, Toji. Fifteen years of you pushing me, mocking me, tearing me down every chance you get. And for what? What did I ever do to you? Huh?”
Toji’s expression faltered for the briefest second, but he quickly recovered, leaning back in his chair like your words didn’t faze him. “I don’t know,” he said with a shrug, his voice casual but his tone forced. “Maybe it’s ‘cause you act like you’re better than everyone. Like you’re so nice, so perfect, like you’re doin’ people a favor just by bein’ in the same room.”
Your jaw dropped. “You think I act like that?”
“Yeah,” he said bluntly, meeting your glare with one of his own. “Like every little thing you do’s for show. Like you’re playin’ charity to make yourself look good.”
You stared at him, stunned. “You really think that’s who I am?”
He didn’t answer, his jaw tight as he looked away.
For a moment, you couldn’t even speak. But then you took a deep breath and stood up, grabbing your bag.
“You know what, Toji? I’m done. I don’t care what you think about me. You wanna hate me, fine. But I’m not gonna sit here and take it anymore.”
He looked up at you, something unreadable flashing across his face.
“Here’s the deal,” you said firmly. “We’re working on this project together, but that’s it. I don’t wanna hear another insult or backhanded comment from you. We’re not kids anymore. Grow up, or I’ll do this project myself.”
Toji didn’t say anything as you sat back down, your hands trembling slightly as you reopened your laptop. The air between you was thick, tense, and for the first time, he looked almost… unsure.
Finally, he let out a sharp exhale and leaned forward again, his voice quieter but still rough around the edges. “Fine. No more bullshit.”
You glanced at him, your eyes narrowing. “You mean it?”
“Yeah,” he said, his tone clipped. “Whatever. Let’s just get this done.”
It wasn’t exactly an apology, and it definitely wasn’t a truce in the usual sense. But for now, it was enough.
As you started working, the tension began to fade, replaced by a tentative silence. Neither of you said anything for a while, but there was a strange sense of understanding settling between you.
For the first time in years, it felt like you weren’t fighting. Not entirely, anyway.

“You look pissed already,” he said, dropping into the seat across from you. “Nice to know I haven’t lost my touch.”
“You’re three minutes late,” you snapped, pushing your laptop open. “Let’s just get this over with.”
Toji leaned back in his chair, completely ignoring your attempt to start. “Relax. I’m here, aren’t I?”
“Barely.”
“Damn, you’re wound up. This project really got you that stressed?” He grinned lazily, watching as you bristled.
“No,” you said through gritted teeth. “It’s you that stresses me out. Now focus. We’re doing the slides on how memes influence modern communication.”
“Sounds boring,” he muttered, pulling out his phone.
You snatched it off the table before he could unlock it. “Not today, Toji. You’re actually going to help for once.”
His eyes flicked up to meet yours, sharper than usual. “You’re lucky I’m even here,” he said, voice low.
“And you’re lucky I haven’t strangled you yet,” you shot back.
For a moment, neither of you said anything, the tension hanging in the air. Then, to your surprise, Toji’s lips twitched into a faint grin. “Alright, princess. Show me what you got.”
It wasn’t much, but it was something. You exhaled, dragging your laptop toward him.
The next hour passed surprisingly smoothly. Toji’s attitude was still there—rolling his eyes at your suggestions, tossing in sarcastic comments—but he actually contributed. He had ideas, sharp and clever ones, even if he acted like they weren’t a big deal.
“See? Was that so hard?” you said, leaning back once you’d saved your progress.
“Not as hard as dealing with you,” he replied, but his tone lacked its usual bite.
For the first time, you noticed he looked almost…relaxed. It was a strange sight, and you weren’t sure what to do with it.
“Same time tomorrow?” you asked cautiously.
“Depends,” he said, standing and throwing his bag over his shoulder.
“On what?”
“If your friend’s gonna be around,” he said, his smirk returning full force.
You groaned. “You’re impossible.”
“Yeah, but you’re still stuck with me.” He winked and walked off, leaving you to wonder if maybe—just maybe—working with Toji wouldn’t be the absolute nightmare you’d imagined.

—————————————————————————————————————
You don’t look back as you dart through the party, weaving through clusters of people and dodging poorly placed furniture. The music thumps in your ears, but it’s not loud enough to drown out the sound of Toji’s footsteps behind you. He’s faster than you remembered, and the realization sends a jolt of panic through you.
“Keep running,” his voice calls out, low and sharp. “You won’t get far.”
You bite back a curse, turning a corner and slipping out through the back door. Cool air hits your skin as you step onto the patio, your eyes scanning for a place to hide. Your heart is pounding, but adrenaline keeps you moving, your legs carrying you toward the garden. The party lights fade behind you as you push through the bushes, stumbling into a secluded clearing surrounded by trees.
You pause, catching your breath, thinking for one hopeful second that you might have lost him. But then—
“Gotcha.”
His voice is closer than you thought, and before you can react, Toji steps out from the shadows, his hands stuffed casually in his pockets, like he wasn’t just chasing you at full speed. His dark eyes glint under the faint moonlight, and the smirk on his face is nothing short of infuriating.
“Running away doesn’t really work when you’re this predictable.”
You glare at him, backing up slightly as he closes the distance. “What do you want, Toji?”
He shrugs, the picture of mock indifference. “Just making good on my promise. You said something stupid—again—and I had to remind you who you’re dealing with.”
“Oh, please,” you snap, straightening up despite the burn in your lungs. “Is this what you do for fun? Chase people around because you’re too boring to enjoy a normal party?”
He steps closer, and you instinctively take a step back, only to feel the edge of a low stone bench behind you.
“I don’t have to enjoy anything,” he says coolly, his voice sharp enough to cut. “Especially when you’re around.”
The words hit harder than you expect, and for a second, you can’t think of a clever retort. He notices your hesitation, of course, and his smirk deepens.
“What’s the matter?” he taunts, leaning slightly closer. “Cat got your tongue? Or maybe you’re finally realizing you’re out of your league.”
The heat of anger snaps you out of your silence. “Out of my league? Please, Toji. You’ve spent 15 years chasing after me just to be annoying. What’s that say about you?”
His expression hardens for the briefest moment, and you can’t help but feel a small sense of victory. But instead of biting back, he just shakes his head, his smirk returning as he turns to walk away.
“You’re not worth it,” he mutters over his shoulder, his tone dismissive.
The words leave you standing there, heart pounding, equal parts angry and unsettled as he disappears back into the party.
You get back to your dorm around 4 a.m., already regretting going to that stupid party. Thinking about Toji and his stupid face only makes you more agitated, so you head straight to bed after quickly taking off your makeup and getting ready. As you lie in bed, your phone buzzes with a text from Leiri, letting you know she’s on her way back to your shared dorm with some guy she met at Gojo’s party. You reply with a thumbs-up emoji, then place your phone on the bedside table with a heavy sigh.

I’m working on some mha smau rn!! Yall can also send requests for mha, saiki k, jjk, death note smau!!(not sure if I’ve ever even seen death note smau but whatever!!). The ones I’m working on is boyfriend Texts with mha characters and it’s mainly fluff and silly messages but you guys can request smut, angst, etc!! You can send specific requests, and I’ll do some stuff for OC’s, so when you request if you want it to be a character texting with your OC just tell me things about your OC, what you want the texts to be about and maybe something about their dynamic!! The ones I’m posting soon is boyfriend texts fluff with mha characters and the reader won’t be gendered so everyone can read!! (If you want a gendered reader when requesting just tell me!!)
Chat am I cooked 💔🙏 I’m at Texas Roadhouse with my family but they lowkey freaks so I’m reading mha and jjk smau 🙂
hypothetically if i were to write an itsfushi dance AU would anyone read it?? (it’s currently in my google docs being worked on)

I just love the boys that are nice sometimes and literal FBI level threats other times...
