Inkotober Day 1! TMA prompt list! Favorite character, alright it took me a while to pick, but i settled on melanie! So here is my rendition of her.. drawn while listening to nightvale..

The second part of character i became initially attached to: Vague Addition.

Sasha James, Archivist Addition. I love the idea of Sasha becoming the Archivist and I absolutely believe she still would've hurled the world into an apocalypse. I'm obsessed with her and the potential and the What Could've Been of her. [The Eye, The Spiral]

『Daedalus』 They gave me a tormented guy and then nothing else. This is a concept for that "fourth crewmate" upon the Daedalus who got locked in a cargo box. A young man, easily tricked and lured, becoming a torn apart & unrecognizable victim of the Dark. I do want to tweak his design but I do love the concept. My guy. My poor, screaming fella. Him having his autonomy and identity pried away from him, just. I want to study him. [The Dark, The Lonely, The Vast]

Breekon. Breekon and Hope. Ill be designing a separate look for Hope, but i did begin to love Breekon and what he went through. They made me ill. I want them to get a house together in the suburbs and get a big dog and just be together again. Also yes the Signature has both Breekon and Hope but that's 100% because when I tried to make Breekons signature by itself, it looked wrong and empty. I'm sick of separating them anyways so. Here's my initial designs for them [up to change ykyk], my own thoughts on what entities they'd be aligned with (or victims of), and some signature stuff with their names. Fun.

Graham Folger. The man himself. What a dude who's both so regular and so. So not. Let's go antisocial paper-eater pulling the avatar of Death incarnate. What are you. [The Eye, The Web, The Stranger]

Sebastian Adekoya. I'm microwaving him you have no idea. I'm prying him apart and reforming him with character study and creative writing. Librarian AU. I will dissect him and Jared, you. Have no. Idea. I hold his design close to me btw. Very proud. [The Eye, The Flesh]

Martin Blackwood. Yknow, i told myself I wasn't going to get attached to any Main Cast folk. Let lo and behold. Way too high a standard really. I love him. There's so much too him. He's petty and soft and caring and so, so angry. He's so real for everything idec. I'm putting him into clouds. [The Lonely, The Web, The Eye]

Needless to say, TMA has become an awful [/pos] brainrot hyperfixation for me and there will be many more posts, thank you.

I'd like to expand a small bit in saying that, in ky mind, Sasha would've become what would widely be considered "the bad guy" in her Archivist journey.

In the barest in summaries on how I view Archivist Sasha

I fully believe she would sacrifice the world if it meant she could keep the Archive Crew safe/saved.

Do I think Archivist Sasha would've handled a good few things better than Archivist Jon?

Yes.

Do I also think that she would lead to arguably worse horrors and fall much deeper into the "monster" aspect of being an avatar?

Very much so

the idea that jon isn’t as good at making tea as martin is is really cute n all, but im a bigger fan of the idea that jon is perfectly capable of making a good cup of tea, it’s just that tea made for you by someone you love hits different. like it technically tastes the same when he makes it himself, but it’s not actually the same, yknow?

Oh yeah my bro works for door dash and takes me with him sometimes and one time we got one in this super big culdesac. It was so quiet and not a single person was outside even though it was mid afternoon and the house we delivered to was dark everywhere and there was amazon boxes piled up outside and the room that was at the front of the house with the big windows you can see in was a playroom for a kid filled with toys of all sizes but it didn't look like any of it had ever been touched long story short it took us five minutes to find our way out of that hell hole and by the time we did we felt like we where going crazy

when i was a kid, the thought of heaven would scare me so bad that i would get violently ill because i imagined it would just be a neverending series of cookiecutter suburban neighborhoods with a sky that was always sunny. like this

monster jon concept

he’s essentially a living optic nerve. the tower is there to direct and stabilize the connection held in the pupil. when he’s in the panopticon he serves as both the center of the tether to reality and the closest thing the eye has to a mind.

he can fly, but as pupil, he isn’t affected by gravity so his wings and legs are vestigial. the furthest he can reach with his body is the floor of that room.

the archivists serve as a defense system because jon is basically a vital organ and fairly physically vulnerable. they’re very fast and can fly short distances but usually just cling to walls and crawl. they have about the same level of sentience as beholding itself (not much). jon can maneuver them as external limbs but when he isn’t, they kind of just run on eye-autopilot.

For the longest time, I wanted Michael to blow up NotShasha like Dr Manhattan. A couple seasons later I kinda got my wish

Not sure how much crossover there is in the Magnus Archives, and One Piece fandoms but...

Robin would for sure be an avatar for The Eye right? Like, she actually manifests eyes in various places to spy on people and gather knowledge. Plus shes always studying ancient ruins and has a hunger to know the secrets the goverment wants locked away

As for the others,

Luffy would be a victim of The Lonely

(Gear 5 Luffy could be an avatar for the spiral if he wanted 🤷‍♀️)

Zoro would be an avatar for The Hunt

Nami could fall prey to The Desolation - specifically 'the destruction of potential', and it would be arlongs doing

Usopp ...victim to anything really. Going to say The End just to cover all bases

Sanji terrorized by The Web not feeling in control of his life, stuck in the designs of his birth family

Chopper The Corruption, making him fight a losing battle against disease

Franky and Brook i have no idea. An argument could be made for them as avatars of The Stranger?

Very curious to see different takes on this though!

I just had another weird thought about my fave spooky podcast and most recent hyperfixation.

The Five Seasons of The Magnus Archives Seem Thematically Parallel to the Stages of Grief.

Season 1, Denial - Jon feigns skepticism as he reads the statements and hides that he's scared of whatever monsters lurk in them

Season 2, Anger - Jon takes the offensive in that he begins to investigate Gertrude's death and starts spying on his coworkers in an increasingly antagonistic fashion. Everybody rightly gets very upset with Jon's behavior.

Season 3, Bargaining - Jon learns (part of) the truth; okay, how does he fix this? Look into the Stranger, save the world, maybe that will validate the fact he's becoming less human? What does he have to do to be safe?

Season 4, Depression - And I quote, "Boohoo, I'm so alone and a monster". He has lost a larger piece of his humanity and is going through the motions, nobody he can trust or talk to and sinking into the addiction of hunting victims.

Season 5, Acceptance - John has come into full power and, while he still doesn't like the fact that he does, he enjoys the perks of avatarism and being the harbinger of the change.

(If this observation has already been made I apologize but my late night thoughts need an outlet.)
