As a Christian I can honestly say that Jesus would calmly slap everyone who is responsible for this shit, and then he would sit with trans people and heal them by himself.

Queer kids are not allowed to be kids.

They aren’t allowed to get angry when people bully them because by reacting people believe they justify the abuse. They are forced to deal with adult situations often without support from any of the actual adults around them. When they look for leaders in their community they often find no one who is like them and are left with only scraps of representation in media to look to. And they don’t have the support system they deserve, the support system heterosexual/romantic cisgender kids are given without question. They are forced to hide parts of themselves from their family members and we pretend that it is normal. And if they decide to discuss that particular part of their identity it is picked apart and examined often before the kid even knows how to process it themselves. Their own identities is branded as “too adult” for them when it is not their identities that is too adult, but how we treat them once we are informed of these parts of their identities.

Queer kids deserve so much better than they are given.

I have never in my life wanted to get to know stars, the night sky or anything related to astronomy. Space was never something I was interested in. But this is so beautiful and interesting, I can’t even look away.

Sometimes… There’s More Than Meets The Eye. 👀 You’re Looking At Two Very Different Takes On
Sometimes… There’s More Than Meets The Eye. 👀 You’re Looking At Two Very Different Takes On

Sometimes… there’s more than meets the eye. 👀 You’re looking at two very different takes on an iconic image. ⁣

Human eyes can see only a small portion of the range of radiation given off by the objects around us. We call this wide array of radiation the electromagnetic spectrum, and the part we can see visible light.

In the first image, researchers revisited one of Hubble Space Telescope’s most popular sights: the Eagle Nebula’s Pillars of Creation. Here, the pillars are seen in infrared light, which pierces through obscuring dust and gas and unveil a more unfamiliar — but just as amazing — view of the pillars. ⁣ ⁣ The entire frame is peppered with bright stars and baby stars are revealed being formed within the pillars themselves. The image on the bottom is the pillars in visible light.

just because there aren't as many posts of blm circulating and just because we're slowly posting regular "aesthetic" content again it does not mean you have the right to stop educating yourself on issues that affect black people. continue to educate yourself and others, call out racism when you see it and continue to donate and sign petitions. activism that only occurs when somebody dies or something devastating happens is not proper activism, it is performative. so, just because you aren't posting as much about blm or other issues anymore, it does NOT mean you can go back to being ignorant. continue to stay aware. keep that energy and use it and your privilege to help black people and amplify their voices. us non-black people need to recognise that choosing when to speak up or speaking up when it is big is a privilege and is ignorant and we need to fix this.

What Happened To Kendrick Johnson and Why People Are Demanding Answers Even Now

On Jan. 11, 2013, the body of 17-year-old Kendrick Johnson was found in the most unusual of circumstances: upside-down and rolled up in a school gym mat. The mysterious death of Kendrick Johnson was initially ruled an accident by law enforcement asserting the ridiculous theory that Johnson must have accidentally fallen into the center of the mat while reaching for a sneaker

Some inconsistencies in the case:

the black and white gym shoe that lay on the ground below Kendrick Johnson, the one he was presumed to be reaching for, was lying on top of a pool of blood, but there was no blood on the shoe itself.

A hoodie and a pair of orange and black gym shoes were also found lying on the floor of the gym

traces of blood on the wall nearby that wasn’t Kendricks.

A private pathologist revealed Kendrick Johnson had suffered hemorrhaging on the right side of his neck, which meant that he likely died from blunt force trauma

the second autopsy revealed that some of Johnson’s organs were missing and in their place, his body had been stuffed with newspaper.

A whole hour of footage from the gym was missing, right at the time which would have shed light on what happened that day

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

- Donate to his family! (they're nowhere near their goal)

- Sign the petition

SPREAD THIS AND HIS STORY!!!

Not to be controversial or anything, but if you identify yourself with dark academia but you don’t uses the lessons of past, in novels and general history, to reflect and better the present, the only academic you are is of ignorance.

The point of studying text and art and history is not to just appreciate it but to understand, analysis and apply it, as a means to shape a better present and future.

For example if you love blood brother but only analysis it in the context of class relations of the time it was wrote, and not also as a way to show how little we have changed dispute as a culture knowing that our system was wrong, you are not a academic. You are a fan.

There is nothing wrong with that but despite what Wilde says art has use beyond enjoyment, beyond the singular, it reflects the history of a society and it’s emotions. It reflects how we got here and reminds us that as we changed once we can change again, through action.

So if in this lockdown you have turned away from social media in favour of books and art, the next time you read othello or to kill a mockingbird remember that is not a past we have moved on from. George flyod lived and breathed as we did. But now he is dead, and there is something you can do to prevent that same fate of innocent black people.

Stand up, step up and fight together ✊🏾

As a lesbian™️ I just want to let any/all of my trans followers know in the wake of JK Rowlings further hateful comments on the trans community, that I stand with you. Trans men are valid as hell. Trans women are valid as hell (and absolutely b e a u t I f u l in this humble lesbians opinion). Shame on JK Rowling for trying to use my identity as a lesbian (which she doesn't even identify as) to invalidate trans people. Shame on anyone who hates on the trans community.

I’m just going to say it: to my fellow white people, READ AFRICAN-AMERICAN LITERATURE. James Baldwin! Toni Morrison! Ralph Ellison! There are many, many authors out there, so expand your horizons! Read The Autobiography of Malcolm X. Read The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. If you’re into art, discover African American artists! Henry Ossawa Tanner! Mickalene Thomas! LaToya Ruby Frazier! I truly encourage all of you to be open to new perspectives! Not just that, but educate yourselves. Be an ally to the black community! Listen to what these people have to say!

I just came from outside. It's raining, the garden looks peaceful dressed in the gentle tones of green.

I feel the raindrops on my face, my back, my hands while I'm picking strawberries.

Things are not perfect but this moment is great and so so so grounding.

I reblog this because I want to be able to find it later. I'm so stressed about the thesis and the deadline is so close and my prof is not communicating with me and everything is wrong. BUT I also feel really inspired today and am actually looking forward to write, so that's good I think.

wholesome student life things that we should collectively start romancizing

waking up and being genuinely thrilled to go to class because today is THAT CLASS you love so much you’d like it to never end

coffee breaks with friends, chatting and joking about this particularly hard essay and the prof’s mannerism

coffee breaks on your own, as you absent-mindedly watch the people around you, while thinking about what you’re working on

finding this book you’ve been dying to read for so long, and borrowing it from the library

the feeling of excitement that goes through you whenever you remember The Book is in your backpack

understanding everything during demanding classes and being genuinely interested in the subject

buying a New Special Pen and taking colorful notes that look super pretty

not being able to shut up about your school projects (no your friends dont really care about the intricate details of what you’re working on, they don’t even have the same major as you, but they’re happy to hear you rant with such a burning passion)

actually doing the extra reading and having your curiosity so piqued by what you’re reading that you go on and on and suddenly its 1am and what happened

printing the project you’ve spent so much time and energy on and feeling the paper’s warmth

actually submitting that project without feeling awful about it because you know you did your best and aren’t responsible for what happens next

when you finally finish this Super Hard And Important Essay at like 3am, open the window and feel the cold night air on your burning cheeks and everything is dark and quiet and you can see the moon and you’re at peace with everything for a few minutes

when this professor you admire says you did a great job and/or that you’re talented!!!!

realizing two concepts that seemed so far away from each other and that you discovered in wildly different contexts are actually interlinked, then Realizing™ things and linking concepts/works/articles to each other at the speed of light & being super excited about it

being so deeply immersed in your work that you didn’t realize two hours have passed

finding the Perfect Spot at the library

that Pure Joy moment when you FINALLY understand that super obscure sentence/text

when you feel anxious because you’re not done with your homework & the deadline is super tight & your friend tells you they aren’t done yet either

same but with an even more intense relief feeling when you realize you both haven’t even started yet

when the professor starts a new reasoning and you can predict what the next idea/the final conclusion will be

when the professor mention your favorite novel/author/fictional character in class and you feel like your internal screech of joy could shatter glass

the Academic Salt™ that has you like 👀👀

when the professor tears apart an author or scholar you hate and you’re like YES I WANT BLOOD GIVE ME BLOOD

when you learn that Cool New Fact that makes you reconsider your whole life

leaving the library after a long productive day and feeling like nothing is real but experiencing everything more intensely

leaving the library at night after a long study session and everybody has left already and its just you and the long neon-lit corridors then stepping outside and smelling the crisp night wind

feel free to add your own!!!

i think humanity’s love affair with the sea is perhaps the sexiest thing about us

i am so determined to fall more in love with life. intentionally romanticising the walks i am on, the birds chirping, the blooming nature around me, the water in my cup of tea turning from a light peach tone to a dark pink, the poetry i write, the things i am learning, my handwriting, dozing off while sitting in front of my window, all of it and more. I have to take a closer look at the little things that make my heart beat faster.

men in greek mythology? scoundrels. just terrible. woeful social skills. murderers. kidnappers. violent misogynists. most of them… never described as handsome so we have to assume they were ugly.

narcissus? unproblematic. beacon of transformative self love. king of the swerve. gay icon. couldn’t recognize his reflection but neither can my dog, we aren’t holding that against him.

I love this.

look i know we’ve discussed every which way the sorting system is bullshit but also??? people’s values??? change??? as they get older???

give me a hufflepuff who was never taught to advocate for themselves as a kid, who was taught that their worth came from being selfless and sacrificial and making others happy, so they value loyalty and hard work and all of those amazing hufflepuff traits, but through this warped lens because they don’t have a solid foundation of self-esteem or any sense of boundaries. give me that kid getting sorted and being the huffliest puff there ever was, but who is literally driving themselves into the ground trying to help others and has quickly become the castle’s number one choice when someone needs a favor. and they think it’s good! they think they’re living up to their house and those expectations because they don’t have any other foundation for affection and love besides being praised for being useful.

give me that kid barely scraping by and getting sick from staying up so late and having no legitimate friendships because the people they interact with just want favors all the time. give me that kid getting yanked into an empty classroom by a seventh year slytherin and her hufflepuff girlfriend (they’re in love shut up) and having a real uncomfortable conversation about where/how the kid gets validation and hey, are you happy? are you healthy? are you taking care of yourself? is anyone taking care of you?

and because the answer is obviously no, give me that kid suddenly having two seventh-year moms, one of which is a terrifying slytherin who will hex anyone who comes close asking for a favor, and whose pep talks basically boil down to aren’t you tired of being nice? don’t you just wanna go ape shit?

give me six months of that kid realizing that their self worth isn’t tied to what they can provide to people and that they love their house but honestly? they have their own shit to deal with. they have goals and ambitions and dreams and nearly failing out of school because they’re trying to help everyone else is not the way to live life. i want that kid to wake up in the slytherin dorms one morning, completely bedecked in green and silver, and their slytherin mom being smug about it for fucking weeks because, i called it babe, you know i did

because people’s values change! getting older shifts your perspectives and what you value and there are so many ways that kids with shitty home lives or even just one with bad self-esteem could end up in one house and feel like a fraud when their morals and values adapt to growing up. because everyone changes as they grow up oh my god

tl;dr @ jk rowling your binary sorting system sucks let kids change what they believe in and represent it in canon you coward

I’d like to be a Hufflepuff so bad. I’d like to be kind and hard-working and caring and loyal. I’d like to be a Hufflepuff, because then it would be possible for me to say “I’m a good person after all”. It’s hard to say it now. Now I fear that I am not. I fear that I’m not kind or smart or brave or ambitious. I can take the other ones (even tho they bother me sometimes, especially the smartness).

But the kindness is killing me.

“I am constantly trying to communicate something incommunicable, to explain something inexplicable, to tell about something I only feel in my bones and which can only be experienced in those bones. Basically it is nothing other than this fear we have so often talked about, but fear spread to everything, fear of the greatest as of the smallest, fear, paralyzing fear of pronouncing a word, although this fear may not only be fear but also a longing for something greater than all that is fearful.” - Franz Kafka, Letters to Milena
