Thought I’d share this with Floralia being upon us, which also overlaps with Beltane.

He’s past the point of nooo return!
Julius Caesar led a single legion south over the Rubicon from Cisalpine Gaul to Italy. In doing so, he broke the law on imperium and ignited civil war.
This is so accurate!

Lissa Dragomir: So what do Mark Antony, Julius Caesar, and Cleopatra have in common?
Rose Hathaway: Threesome!
Lissa Dragomir: Can you honestly not take ANYTHING seriously?!
Rose Hathaway: It wouldn’t be as fun if I did.
Julius Caesar after bailing Antony out of jail for the tenth time: You seriously can’t stay out of trouble for five fucking minutes?! This is the last time I’m paying.
Mark Antony: You just keep telling yourself that.
It’s Annia!

This is awesome!
My recreations of ancient Roman hairstyles for my Roman Society project! Julia Domna (portrait bust style 2) and Faustina the Younger.
This is so cool.
The scale model for my final university project
I designed Abhorsen’s house from the book ‘Sabriel’ by Garth Nix The house sits on an island overhanging a waterfall (I only designed half of the island, beyond the arches would be green screened)
Seriously, everyone is missing OP’s point that EVERY religion except the Christian religion analogue is treated like crap. If that’s not Christian bias, I don’t know what is.
CONFESSION:
I’m still mad about the retconning of the Elven Pantheon in Inquisition. If they were set on Mythal being betrayed by the others and Fen'Harel being more than a trickster god, they could have done that without making all of the Elven gods straight up evil. I understand that fleshing them out would require making them less perfectly benevolent. Instead they lack any nuance and they basically made them the Elven equivalent of power hungry Tevinter Magisters. The Maker is still real though.
Nero ordering the death of her half-sister Claudia Octavia probably was the deciding factor for refusing to marry him. He also possibly suspected she had knowledge of the Pisonian Conspiracy of 65 C.E.
A statue depicting Claudia Antonia (30-66 CE), daughter of emperor Claudius and Aelia Paetia (adoptive sister of Sejanus).
I was actually surprised to discover that she lived that long - but then again Claudia’s descent made her a very attractive bright candidate for ambitious politicians. If Tacitus & co are to believed among the suitors were for example Cornelius Piso and emperor Nero. Latter also had her executed after Claudia refused emperor’s proposal.

-Very loosely the basis for Amy in Little Women, May Alcott’s illustrations for Little Women were panned by critics. After studying in Europe, her paintings were twice selected by the famous Paris Salon.
-In addition, she wrote and published a book called, Studying Art Abroad and How to Do It Cheaply, which gave advice to aspiring American artists (particularly women) on how to learn to paint in Europe while on a budget.
-She was praised for being a talented copyist of J.M.W.Turner, and also specialized in still life paintings. One of these still life paintings was selected by the Paris Salon in 1877.
-Unfortunately, she died shortly after giving birth to her daughter Louisa May “Lulu” Nieriker in December 1879. Lulu was raised by her aunt Louisa May Alcott until the author’s death in 1888. She was subsequently raised by her father Ernest Nieriker.
-In 2002 there was an exhibition of her work titled “Lessons, Sketching, and dreams: May Alcott as Artist”.

I love how Penelope’s all, “I don’t have time for your nonsense, I’ve got work to do”.

She was totally ok with Antinous, unlike the rest of Rome.

Best game idea ever!
instead of going to jail, you get exiled to Scythia
passing Go represents the bribes you collect every election season
instead of owning property on city blocks, you own land in various provinces
Boardwalk and Park Place ==> Egypt and Syria
Baltic and Mediterranean ==> Britannia Prima and Britannia Secunda
instead of houses and hotels, villae and latifundia
instead of railroads, just roads
water works ==> bathhouse
electric company ==> amphitheater
free parking ==> forum
income tax ==> wealth tax
re-skinned Chance and Community Chest cards:
“You have been elected Aedile – pay each player 50 denarii”
“Get out of Exile Free”
“Saturnalia Fund Matures – Collect 100 denarii”
“Greek Theater Night – collect 50 denarii from every player for opening night seats”
“Land Tax Refund – collect 20 denarii”
“Receive 25 denarii in bribes”
I agree wholeheartedly.
Roman history is like a bottomless well, interesting but very exhausting
When I see this statue, I can’t help but remember Kate Quinn’s Empresses of Rome series.
Roman statue of empress Vibia Sabina, wife of Hadrian (r. 117-138 CE). Marble.
*after Kreia kills the Jedi masters*
The Exile: But WHY?!
Kreia: You were there. Vrook wanted to kill you, so I killed him, then everyone saw me kill Vrook so I killed everyone. You must end the entire order to prevent revenge killings. That's Jedi Killing 101.
Atton: Uh, I taught that class at the Korriban Academy and we never covered anything this fucked up.
I'm torn between agreeing with Atton, and laughing while picturing him as an actual teacher.
Captured Exchange Thug: I’ll never talk!
The Exile: *sharpens knife* We have ways of making people talk.
The Exile: *cuts pieces of cake and shares a slice with Atton*
Captured Exchange Thug: Can I have some?
The Exile: Cake is for talkers.
That went a direction I didn't anticipate.
Wonderful Vetra Nyx fanart.

Eros and Psyche’s story is one of my favorite Greek myths.

-Lord Byron was the inspiration for his doctor Polidori’s vampire, Lord Ruthven. He’s also a national hero in Greece, because he died fighting in their War of Independence against the Ottoman Empire.
-Mary Shelley is best known for Frankenstein and editing her husband’s work. However, she wrote several other novels. She was bisexual, and had a relationship with Jane Williams, which ended badly.
-Claire Clairemont in addition to having an illegitimate child by Byron, was fluent in five languages, including French. She outlived the majority of Byron and Shelley’s social circle.
-Percy Shelley was expelled from Oxford for his atheism, and died in a shipwreck. The death of Claire Clairemont’s illegitimate daughter by Byron haunted him.
Percy, holding the door for Mary: After you :)
Mary: No, after you :)
Percy: I insist, after you :)
Byron, pushing pass the both of them: No, after me.
This is both hilarious and accurate for Lord Byron, who really was that arrogant.
Does being a bisexual pagan count? :P
today is byron’s birthday which means it’s time to do your most, your worst, and cause scandal.
don’t disappoint him
Practice social distancing by writing a three part condemnation of institutionalised religion that makes you the enemy of everyone.
Percy Shelley, when he was expelled from Oxford. (via incorrect-romanticism)
LOL.
Mary Shelley suddenly became a lot cooler than she already was.
hello! i’m sorry if you’ve been asked this before but do you think you could elaborate on mary shelley’s attraction to women? i’ve heard of people describing her as bisexual just in passing but i’ve never found a good explanation of it. once again, i’m very sorry if you have been asked this before!
I may have, so check the questions tag just in case!
But Mary Shelley was involved with Jane Williams after Percy Shelley’s death, a relationship/involvement. Mary often described her in terms of endearment and her sole delight. Everything kind of went to hell when she found out Jane had married Thomas Hogg and was talking about how Mary was cold towards Shelley, which is, if you ask me, a big, big asshole move.
She also had wlw friends and help a couple to forge passports so they could ran away together too.
Mission looks appropriately badass.
Mission wips! Her blaster was the second 3D model I had ever made in my life.
