Tips for writing those gala scenes, from someone who goes to them occasionally:
Generally you unbutton and re-button a suit coat when you sit down and stand up.
You’re supposed to hold wine or champagne glasses by the stem to avoid warming up the liquid inside. A character out of their depth might hold the glass around the sides instead.
When rich/important people forget your name and they’re drunk, they usually just tell you that they don’t remember or completely skip over any opportunity to use your name so they don’t look silly.
A good way to indicate you don’t want to shake someone’s hand at an event is to hold a drink in your right hand (and if you’re a woman, a purse in the other so you definitely can’t shift the glass to another hand and then shake)
Americans who still kiss cheeks as a welcome generally don’t press lips to cheeks, it’s more of a touch of cheek to cheek or even a hover (these days, mostly to avoid smudging a woman’s makeup)
The distinctions between dress codes (black tie, cocktail, etc) are very intricate but obvious to those who know how to look. If you wear a short skirt to a black tie event for example, people would clock that instantly even if the dress itself was very formal. Same thing goes for certain articles of men’s clothing.
Open bars / cash bars at events usually carry limited options. They’re meant to serve lots of people very quickly, so nobody is getting a cosmo or a Manhattan etc.
Members of the press generally aren’t allowed to freely circulate at nicer galas/events without a very good reason. When they do, they need to identify themselves before talking with someone.
Billy is the only character to be called a faggot by a parent. No good parent calls their kid a slur and hurts them.
Billy is a victim.
Reblog this. People seem to forget that Billy is still a teen that gets abused by his father. Again, Billy Hargrove is a victim. Stop erasing this.
Is it just me, or is there something completely deranged about finding a fic so good it fundamentally alters your brain chemistry, only to realize it has spawned an entire fandom multiverse of inspired works?
And then those fics have their own inspo chains, and suddenly there are thirty variations of the same concept, spiraling outward like some kind of chaotic, beautifully unhinged literary hydra, and now I’m just sitting here at 3 AM, eyes bloodshot, vibrating with indecision because where do I even start?
Do I go in order of influence like some kind of academic scholar? Do I pick at random and hope for the best? Do I chase the one that promises the most emotional devastation because apparently, I don’t value my own well-being?
Or do I just sit here, staring at my screen, paralyzed, because every time I try to choose, I remember there are more of them, and they keep multiplying? And let’s not even talk about the comments section, where people are linking even more fics in an ever-expanding rabbit hole of shared brainrot.
And the worst (best?) part? I know I’m not going to stop. I can’t stop. Who needs sleep when I could be reading just one more fic that’s technically the same idea I’ve already read twenty times but slightly different? My body is running on pure hyperfixation and maybe half a cup of cold coffee I forgot about six hours ago. I am too deep in this, and I don’t even want to leave.
Anyway, thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
you! tumblr user!
can y’all IMAGINE how goddamn smug Billy would’ve been if he’d slept with Nancy’s mom AND her ex??
ain’t no way that man is keeping that shit to himself, he’d glance at Nancy ONCE and laugh so hard he was crying before saying something dumb like, “Who knows, Nance? Maybe Byers is next.”
Jeez break the news better next time Mike
And if you guys were wondering, what the dynamic between Kenny and Butters is in my au:
And yes: I originally created this as a ship au. But by now it's half gay stuffs and half super cool angsty super hero stuff. If you don't like the first bit, what are you doing on my blog? But also; you can just appreciate the awesome anime-style battles between ye ol' favourite super hero and super villain from this small town in the middle of nowhere!
Kizu: She is my creativity! Her name is a reference to my account name 'Magical*KIZU*ne', since she is the origin of my ideas for any art pieces. Kizu is also, mostly, my anxiety, since I'm an anxious mess. Every of my sides is to some extent anxiety and she just got the most of it. Kizu is friendly, has the most wild ideas and is a bit overprotective...like a big sister. She's always right there, when an attack is coming up, trying to distract me or calm me down. The thing with her is, she builds up walls around her, but is trying to be polite, wile blocking others out. But sometimes she can be really, REALLY, too overprotective and if the tiniest thing might go wrong, she's the first to call it off and blaming her for that. Her room is an art studio, literally. Everywere you look, traditional art on canvases and/or papers, but also digital-art posters. But Kizu also has a 'sleeping' room, in which she likes to go, to do...stuff...I don't want to mention it...you'll see... "You're right, there will always be a tomorrow. But the question is, will it be better? Is it really worth it?" -Kizu
Oh my gods and stars thank you!!
Yo, can someone write me a fanfiction, maybe just a one shot, of Billy joining the group in season 2, that exact night? Like:
No fight between Steve and Billy, because Steve "promised to keep you shitheads safe, and that is exactly what I'm doing to do." And honestly? What could be safer for max in that moment: staying in the house this mind flyer thing knows where they are OR at her home, with her brother who should have a decent punch seen from the basketball court.
So instead of being like "Max? What's a Max? A ginger, like the roots?" He just straight up goes; "you know what, yeah, they've been playing and she definitely should go home, NOW. Just drive, mister 2. place, drive and don't ever look back. Got it Hargrove?" Suddenly screaming and Steve is back in the house immediately- the Demodog wasn't as dead as they thought...
Every ride home with Billy is a new rollercoaster for the kids
