I think, what made me love Banana Fish so much despite the many sad, violent, and tragic things that went down was the very broad relationship of Ash and Eiji. Cliche to say? Maybe. I will always be grateful that Yoshida chose this direction than have it as another het story. With what those two have they didn't need to be in specifics on who they are to each other or what it means to be together. I remember in Garden of Light, Sing described their relationship as "more than romantic" got to me. That shifted a lot of things within my aroace mind and heart. Anyone can interpret it as romantic or platonic alike or possibly both. It's just great that, you can simply love someone so much by just existing as themselves, without, and together.

Ash and Eiji's first meeting felt like two universes colliding. You can feel the entire room shift even when there's nothing to shake it, and see the colors turn a bit brighter than usual. The moment they locked eyes it feels uncertain yet they were so sure of each other at the same time.

I guess Ash is somewhat guarded since Ibe's there. Knowing how he can't trust adults so much. Yet the next scenes that come after their first eye contact, Ash is interested, testy or maybe teasing even towards Eiji. To say the least they were both interested in each other. Curious.

My thoughts on why Ash let Eiji borrow his gun even though they just met:

So I was wondering for awhile on why Ash lent Eiji his gun and the most likely reason that I could come up with is because Eiji asked for permission, and Ash was touched by Eiji's politeness and sincerity that's why he lets him borrow his gun.

But why though? For someone who would go as far as blowing someone's finger off, he trusted Eiji with his gun too easily and quickly

I'll tell you why, it's cause Eiji asked for permission, for consent. The fact that Ash trusted a stranger with his gun shows that no one ever asked first before touching his gun. Just a simple "Can I hold your gun?" was all it took and all that Ash needed to let someone touch his gun.

So, consent, right? Ash wants someone that asks for consent first, right? He shot a drunk guy's fingers off because he tried to touch his gun, right? RIGHT?

Riddle me this, what's an act that is done without the consent of the victim and that Ash has experienced throughout his life?

THAT'S RIGHT!

Abuse, r*pe, and manipulation!

And do you know that gun has another meaning other than a weapon used to shoot people? 

THAT'S MOTHERFUCKING RIGHT BITCHES

So Ash wanted someone to ask for consent before touching his gun,

Ash wanted to have a say on whether he wanted his gun held or not, cause it's his own fucking gun. You hear me? his OWN MOTHERFUCKING GUN

ASH KEEPS TWO KINDS OF PEOPLE CLOSE TO HIM, PEOPLE WHO DARE NOT TOUCH HIS GUN (HIS GANG FRIENDS), AND PEOPLE WHO ASKS FOR CONSENT BEFORE TOUCHING HIS GUN (EIJI)

So that's my theory on why Ash let Eiji hold his gun and why I need therapy

I am gonna be so for real with you guys right now. I watched Banana fish when the anime came out. Every single week I was there watching another episode.

But around episode 14 I stopped because I was scared. I could feel were the story was going and so I just stopped.

Now I have decided to re-watch it and also finish the show. Wish me luck.

Ash still gets nightmares when regressing but they are 1000x worse

Eiji is the only one allowed to touch ash due to his trauma

Ash is called loving names by his caregiver like "bibi, Akachan (baby in Japanese), my baby, bugaboo, boo, Buba"

Eiji is okay with feminine names like "mama, and mommy" but doesn't mind masculine ones too like "papa, dada"

Ash always calls himself icky and gross from his trauma eiji doesn't let that slide he puts him in his lap and praises him

Eiji surprisingly is strong and can pick ash up and rest him on his hip while he cleans, cooks, does housework

Ash loves Hello Kitty when he is regressed since he likes kitties

Eiji is so motherly he warms up a blanket for Ash and warms up bottles for him and kisses his face

ash is such a mama's boy (in a non-toxic way)

eiji and ash are very very sweet and that's what makes them work
