Your gateway to endless inspiration
I feel like he's formed that parental figure to his team even though they are almost all the same age they still look up to him.
And then you have Starscream with his abusive dad being the only thing he's ever known. He may have stared a bit to long whenever Optimus would show affection or simple respect and care to his team cause those concepts are out of reach for him. So when he finally goes to the autobots.
He can't fit in. But Optimus isn't beating him up to the brink of death or blaming him for something out of his control or that he isn't doing things right.
And at this point Starscream realises he was taken in by the wrong brother.
And I feel like this is a good point on why Starscream cared so much about Optimus when he joined the decepticons again. Cause he finally got a taste of a true father and he does cherish it.
And on Optimus' side he saw how his brother treated Starscream but not all of it or the fact that Starscream had never had anyone else or how young he is or was. So when he joined he started to realise these things but instead of pressuring it all out of him to talk he simply became what Starscream lacked his whole life knowing that the former wouldn't work on Starscream. He thinks action speak louder than words yet words are still needed. Starscream also has that ideology but instead in the way of longing for it. Along the way he does see Starscream as a son.
But things don't last forever, it didn't even last long enough to start.
DADIMUS PRIME
TRUCK DAD
big fan of the verions of dadimus and bby bee where bee is the cybertronian equivalent of like 7 yrs old when he's adopted and is suspicious of op at first
like, op is on a scouting mission with what little scraps of a team he managed to put together in the chaos of praxus-in-ruins and comes across a super makeshift little hidey-hole right next to an abandoned adoption center whose well was burning out. b127 didnt get a name yet cus he was too young when the fighting went down but it's been about a vorn after that and he is super malnourished and panicky but managed to avoid detection (or the decepticons honored the rules of war at first, allowing families and children to escape harm, and b just missed the transport ships before they laid waste to the capital city.)
op approaches be cautiously, servos held open to show he isnt a threat. b is like, "no one's s'pposed to be here!" (read: no one's supposed to find me)
"me and my team here came to see if there was anyone hurt, or... still stuck in the rubble. can i... let them take a look at you?"
b is still wary but then op unfolds his battle mask, bit of a still-healing scar over his jaw and mouth. that seems to settle him and he comes closer, lets ratchet take a look at him, and agrees to stay at their makeshift base for now. no caretakers have claimed him yet but he seems to like op
ratchet and op have whispered conversations over what they're gonna do w him, but at this point the matrix has triggered op's fatherly protocols and he wants to take care of b himself. it takes a little longer to earn his full trust but he does it, one soft conversation about the war and what it means over one energon cubes at a time.
b doesnt want to change his designation/adopt a real designation yet and op honors that, but doesnt let him learn how to fight servo to servo until b is like cybertronian teenager-age, which is only two or three vorns later since cybertronians age so quickly
he learns how to fight and starts making friends, learns about the decepticons' and autobots' causes and is allowed to choose whether he wants to stay with them or if his political views are more aligned with megatron's army, but to everyone's secret relief and joy he chooses to stay with them. those who have interacted with him have all taken a liking to their little b, so they are all glad he chose to stay, even more so that he wants to fight with him. he gets his first weapons upgrades and trains under whomever will teach him, although his most frequent sparring partner is op, since he doesn't go too easy on him and lets him learn from his mistakes, etc.
he never really calls op his sire, he's a bit more reserved affectionately speaking and although he always reports to op and asks him to spar he doesnt spend whole days with him. op is always busy anyway, but if b ever asks he does try to drop everything he can to get more free time with him, even if b ends their time together faster than he does. op tries not to care so much, they're in a war after all, but he is hurt sometimes when b spends a few days apart from him.
so even tho they dont spend every day together, everyone can clearly see how b defers to op and whenever they're on missions together, and how he tries to show off in front of him, spinning in the air or knocking out multiple decepticons in one hit. he is constantly asking him where to go and what to do, as close of a student-mentor relationship as a father-son one without anything being official
and then, op sends him to earth, even tho he doesnt really want to, even tho he wants b by his side, and b makes human friends and he learns about human culture, and he really likes human culture and he loves earth, and when he gets his new designation, well, op is the first person he tells.

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR EARTHSPARK!
Summery: "Please tell me I wasn’t this bad when I was a sparkling.“ Bumblebee sighed. "No. You were a lot worse.” Optimus teased.
ao3
Bumblebee was exhausted by the time they got back to the Malto farm. And it wasn’t all due to the battle with Mandroid.
On the way he’d had to stop Jawbreaker from adopting the raccoon that seemed to follow them everywhere, Hashtag from fighting an inflatable wavy arm man and Nightshade from trying to chat up the non-sentient speed train. And now, despite the dark of dusk creeping over the horizon, the new young Terrans were in no rush to get some recharge, having started a game of hot cube with Twitch and Thrash, whilst using the human children as hot cubes.
Bumblebee collapsed onto the bed of hay, keeping one optic on the Terrans through the open barn doors. He felt the warm chuckle of Optimus’ baritone as the Prime sat on the haystacks besides him.
“Please tell me I wasn’t this bad when I was a sparkling.” Bumblebee sighed.
