okay like. supposedly being interested in m/m relationships, or even a specific m/m relationship because you like the specific dynamic depicted is fetishizing. because it’s only acceptable to take an interest in any m/m relationship if you’re a man who likes men, apparently. BUT then also m/f relationships are supposedly relatable and accessible to everybody???
or maybe.
just maybe.
that’s a bullshit argument used to shut down enthusiasm for anything that isn’t heteronormative as well as to shame a group of what is perceived to be young women and girls. because any time young women like anything at all, however harmless or even positive and uplifting, that thing is relentlessly mocked and derided as shallow and ridiculous.
Komahina from Danganronpa...
I can see the appeal but it just doesn't stir anything within me, and I have a slight distain for it since anytime I tried to consume Hajime content I always saw it.
No hate to Komahina fans though, live your truth 🧡
I've never understood the term "toxic fandom". It's weird because there are a lot of situations where it's appropriate, but people tend to use it when someone draws something spicy or something when they could use it on the countless times someone has tried to off themself. But I just. I'm not here to talk about that. Having been in the 3 musketeers of toxic fandoms (Undertale, MLP, Hellaverse) I've noticed a few strange phenomenons when it comes to ships. In each of these fandoms they have "those ships". Ships so popular that you can't even search one character without seeing the ship. Ships where the fans will give it 10000000/10 with no explanation other than "it's cute". Ships that if you dare not ship people will question you and insult you for daring to ship something else. Every ship has a case of this in some way, but some have it worse. So bad that I give it its own term.
I plan to go in deeper discussion on this, but first, I wanna ask. What Umbrella Ship do YOU have beef with. Do you think it's a problem?
Friend: Hey Hollis, how do you always know lore about fandoms you're not even in?
Me: I dont know, the fandoms minions just kinda go door to door seeing who will hear about their lord and savior bill cipher and, well, I've not got much to do in my life
Just found out people hate twitter aus... do u hate fun
Me after I’m not able to talk about my interests:
Funny how youll see a really good artist for a fandom and their fav self/oc ship is oc x Smickle. Smickle is a side side character, I forgot about Smickle. 90% of the fandom does not remember Smickle unless they are explicitedly mentioned. But you remember them. And you use every part of your being to potray them to the world and your own self.
Fandom is so different now and it’s becoming un-fun with how quickly shit moves.
I just want to enjoy things. I don’t want to have to play a game of Artist-Race that seems to be afoot lately.
Ya’ll eat up fandoms, leave artists and writers bone dry and then move on so fucking quickly then fucking wonder where all the Good Fandom Stuff is.
Idk Maybe cherish some things for longer. Reblog stuff. Interact with people. Comment and share.
Fandom is Capitalism now and I’m not being nuanced.
Ao3 does not need an algorithm, you're just lazy
Ao3 does not need a 1-5 star rating system, you just want to bring down authors writing for FREE
Ao3 does not need automatic censorship, it is an archive, therefore anything can be posted
Writing or reading about something illegal does not mean the author nor the reader condones it, if that were true, you could never read a story involving anything negative
Purity culture is ruining fan culture and you all are fucking annoying
i'm so tired of the yaoi-ification of mlm ships where people feel the need to make one of them (usually the fandom-assigned bottom) into a teeny tiny waifish twink and the other into a huge musclebound super aggro guy (usually the fandom-assigned top) i know this is like a thing many people have been saying for years but i just feel like it has never actually gotten better in fandom spaces. the fatphobia of it, the gender essentialism, the homophobia, it's all so fucking annoying it makes me want to scream
I judge whether or not a ship is good by how much ship art makes my stomach tingle
I love fandoms. I will fall into them. I won't abandon them unless they do something horrible. I'm on twitter and people have begun blocking and abandoning me because I changed to the final fantasy XV fandom. None of my followers barely talk to me. One followers even told me not to talk to them because I wasn't in their fandom anymore. I'm about ready to just give up on social media. Everyone hates me now because I changed my fandom.
You ever get into a piece of media then find the fandom and just stare in horror?
Or get into a fandom and see canon and get disappointed because it is not, actually, gay?
not to go all cringe on main but fictional characters have genuinely helped me through some of the worst shit in my life n i’ll forever be grateful to fiction for giving me comfort when i’ve needed it most
Especially sketchbooks. My computer, water bottle, car, and every sketchbook I’ve owned for the last 8 years looks like this.
Julian: so you killed two people?
Henry: you can justify anything, if you do it poetically enough
Francis *wishpers*: wrong fandom Henry.
mafia underboss, but like, classic poetry?
reblog this with a terrible description of your Blorbo. go
I beg you to toss the "dead fandom" narrative. Only wanting to share creations with bustling fandoms will one day absolutely have a negative effect on your presence on here. If you create like that, then you tend to me more focused on numbers and once those go down, you'll end up feeling miserable.
Waiting for a fandom to gain traction and then "hitting" when it gains popularity is also ridiculous. This is not a product you're trying to find the perfect launch date for. That kind of pseudo-economic thinking has to leave.
Instead, just create art or fic for whatever fandom you feel like creating for. Share those things. There are people out there who will absolutely find your stuff and enjoy it
yk when a particular character is drawn pretty feminine in a fandom but when you see a masculine version youre like.
OH GOD PLEASE STEP ON ME
me when my fandom lists keeps expanding and I don't know my main fandom anymore
Like I love an AU right so if you wanna write about if war games never happened and Gotham didn’t try to ruin itself once a week cool fine slay (keep Dick self destructing for years it’s good content idm)
But for the whole tarantula thing to HAVE an impact I feel like you have to acknowledge that he it never would have happed to a character as weathered as Dick (even at the time when a solo nightwing was supposedly more new to the scene)
But like no it only works when you see how many people died bc of blockbuster and how that weighed down on him as a person.
Blockbuster didn’t just ‘discover his identity’ Maxine Micheal’s was a big reason it happened and when Nightwing confronted her she got shot in the head in front of him
Dick figures out that they know his identity Like 4 issues before the blockbuster confrontation
When Firefly makes his first reappearance since no mans land to burn his circus down
This was after Babs, Tim and Cass had all been targeted
And then 1 issue later
Dick leaves earlier (and makes a bad daywing pun no im serious i love him) for patrol and then watches his apartment blow up. Which would be angsty by itself if you ignore the fact that
1) the dude (yoska- and they have like a weird relationship bc of ras al ghul and like he firmly believed he was dicks grandfather biologically and even when that was proven false he moved to bludhaven and admits he still considered them family) teaching dick his own language was in there
2) dick found his dead body in the rubble
3) dick actually bought the apartment building to keep it from being demolished and indirectly kept all those people in the building
Anyway you don’t NEED to read the comics imo as long as you engage with the other content like yeah you’re a dc fan if you like any of the animated properties but like why write about a plot point without knowing the surrounding moments doesn’t that take away from the premium angst content?
+ I didn’t really like or finish war games or his whole like let’s join the mob thing featuring the unironic name “crutches” after but come on the deathstroke and rose shit was so interesting!
Today in challenges for Nightwing fanfic writers - writing fic that makes it obvious the person has:
Actually read Nightwing #92-95 (1996)
Knows the context in which this story happens (what events precede this and which immediately follows it?)
Is aware what Batman characters have met Tarantula
Can outline the occasions when Dick and Catalina are in contact AFTER Nightwing #95
Heck can name literally any appearance for Tarantula after Nightwing #93 (1996)
Can explain the discussion Bruce and Dick have in Nightwing #117 (1996) and how that discussion relates to everything above, and what is not mentioned in that discussion
It shouldn’t be this hard.
Let's go lesbians let's go
I could treat her better than Adam ever did
