Going insane bc freeze your brain could LITERALLY WORD BY WORD PERFECTLY BE SUNG BY NICOLE (except the parents should be gender swapped)
I've seen some ppl talk about heathers x Class of 09, but my hot take is Nicole isn't Veronica, but JD. Perhaps Jecka is closer to being Veronica, as she's gone to this school since primary and used to be best friends with Karen, who is also similar to Martha. (Also the lyric "you'll go to some colleague and marry a lawyer" fits her really well)
It's just JD and Nicole, the new kinda emo and sarcastic kid at school who seems to hate everyone, is sort of apathetic to everything and has a troublesome house life... also one of their parental figures is implied to have killed themselves, and the other is just. Terrible. Is also constantly moving from state to state. Also also ends up being to blame for the death of a bunch of... morally questionable people.
The only issue is that it doesn't leave much room for heathers,,, who are quite important for the musical heathers. So, Kelly, Emily, Ari, and Megan. Tbh, I have no clue who to assign who. Ari and Megan specially aren't really close to being stereotypical popular girls.
Ram and Kurt are a bit easier. Literally any of the boys that isn't jeffrey and Kylar. (truly the "very straight non-rapist" duo)
Jeffrey is just the random guy who wants to watch the heathers be eaten by rats.
Ms Ames would fulfill the role of Miss Fleming pretty well too.
(thinking about toxic yuri... and Emily could also fulfil JD's role, having Nicole Veronica. But this post isn't about that so.)

So.. im litsening to the main Playlist i have tjat has just allll the music in one.. including the full soundtracks of beetle juice and heathers.. and the opening number of beetle juice 'invisible' plays.. and then was 'fight for me' from heathers... and.. the last notes of invisable.. and opening notes of fight for me.. merge so well that i almost didnt notice the song change till i relized.. no.. no there is NOT a chorus of 'holy s**t' in beelte juice

Y'all can like JD and ship him and Veronica if you want, but remember not to excuse his actions. He killed three teenagers and tried to blow up his school, and because he did that he is a terrorist.
Was his life incredibly sad? Yes. Would things have turned out better if this and that didn’t happen? Yes. But we can’t overlook just how horrible he was by the movie’s end. Heather, Kurt, and Ram were all terrible people, but they were also kids. They were all close to leaving Sherwood, and hopefully becoming better people once they were in the real world, but they never got to know the real world because of JD.
And JD abused Veronica. Was JD entirely to blame? No, some fault fell on Veronica, but it was always clear that JD was the mastermind and at the end of the day Veronica was a victim. He tried to get in her head, and convince her she wanted Kurt and Ram dead, he tricked her into helping him murder them. When Veronica was trying to leave him, he pinned her to his couch and forcibly kissed her. When she faked her suicide, he was already climbing into her window to kill her.
JD is a sad character, terribly sad. Certain interactions between him and Big Bud Dean drive me to near tears sometimes, but he’s still a terrorist and he’s still abusive. You can make JD blogs, you can sympathize with him, and you can ship him with Veronica. Just understand that you cannot excuse him, you can’t want a relationship like he and Veronica had, and you certainly can’t want a JD for yourself to fall in love with in real life. That beings said, please take these words to heart next time you watch the movie and musical and imagine yourself with a person like JD. Thank you, I love all.

Not to mention that nothing is more unhinged than bored middle/highschoolers being forced to liven up books they might not care about. For every deranged ao3 crossover fic there is an infinitely more deranged crackfic written for the great gatsby or antigone or to kill a mockingbird or whatever by a bored highschooler and his friends for 10th grade English.
