Is it just me or does anyone else feel like the layout of anubis hour doesn't really make sense? I don't know hwo to explain but please compare the outside to the inside and you'll see what I mean

no you’re right. the house seems so BIG on the outside, and meanwhile it’s only got four bedrooms upstairs (2 girls rooms, Trudy’s room, and Victor’s room/office) and two bedrooms downstairs. as well as a foyer/entrance hall with a coat room to the right, an a attic and a cellar. a living room thats also a dinning room, a kitchen, and the laundry room. its so strangely small on the inside. and i’ve collected a few pictures from around the house as well as the dollhouse.

also doing this made me question the geography of the tunnels and how they get to both the library and the school somewhat so enjoy my theories:

with Alfie’s map in S3 we have an idea of what the school looks like but there’s one building in red that’s never labeled and according to the tunnels, at some point you get to the library shortcut so the library shouldn’t be too far away. I’ve deduced this red building is the Frobisher Library.

now for the hard part to support my theory.

my initial idea was this: it puts Anubis House right where the cellar is and the Reflector Tunnel next to the Library. but then something accord to me.

When Nina is taken in the senet game, she can be heard from Sweet’s office and they can even send her food from there. So the Mask Chamber and thus the Senet Tunnel should be directly above the school building. so this map wouldn’t work.

and i tried to find a way for all three to fit together, for the cellar to land on Anubis House, for the Reflector Tunnel to land on or near the Library, and for the Senet Tunnel to land on the School. the only way to do it was to flip the tunnel map vertically. and then we got this:

now it finally does make sense. only, the fact that i had to flip it means that it may not be accurate. still, i hope you like reading my ramblings and theories

NO but really how did anyone in the Anubis house pass their gcses? or their A-levels? Or whatever form of education that stupid bording school used? cuss they basically NEVER revise, the Sibuna gang are probally falling asleep in lesson every other day, and the rest live with Sibuna which automatically means hell.

the most supernatural aspect of that show is that none of them seem to like...fail fail school.

Okay so not a on-shot BUT:

Go full on British pe lessons and make it bench ball. Inter house bench ball at that. Realllly give in to how pathetic this is. It’s just every house on campus playing bench ball against each other for shitty sports day points.

And of course these two lads are creating extreme practice regimes and have at least 50 pages of pure sport strategy hand written. Yes they did ignore their homework for this. Yes it was worth it. They rated everyone’s throwing, catching, and blocking skills 1-100 down to the 5th decimal place. This is the most math either have done in their life. They have the perfect strategy worked out for their team.

Either way they lose the inter house competition because no amount of strategy can overcome an all girl team of mean girls (said with love, being on those sort of teams was great).

Another issue with S3 is they really could've explored personal stories more (Eddie's relationship with his dad which is disregarded after Sweet briefly expels the Sibunas, and the descendants plot). Instead, they over relied on the romance which caused problems for new characters (KT being considered an obstacle for Peddie) and old ones (Patricia being jealous the entire season and Fabian not having a plot due to a lack of a romantic partner and being paired with Mara at the last minute).

I have no idea how long this has been waiting for me to read cuss I never check my inbox but OMG THIS THIS THIS! especially the relying on romance. So often (even before season 3) romance was used as a driving force for the narative or character arcs and whilst thats great...it gets boring. It's quite a large main cast with side characters being introduced every season. There isn't realllly enough school romance plots that can fit in WITH the mysteries for every character to constantly have this romance plot line. But as you said with Fabian, the writers also don't know what to do with a character once they remove that romantic partner. I think it's espeically hard for the writers to continue writing a compelling and strong character arc once the person is in a relationship. Patrica I think is the best example of this character growth stunting because in season 1 she didn't really have a massive romance arc like in other seasons. her growth happened through her platonic love for Joy sure, and eventually learning to be friends with the sibunas and realising that she CAN trust other people to help her. But no massive romantic love stories. Then eddie comes and as much as I LOVE them her own character growth was pushed back to focus on the romance. and that focus on her growth just never returned in a satisfying way for me. But also your definitly right with Eddies relationship with his dad it was such a complex and tricky relationship that seemed to only cause problems when the narative needed it to. Honestly thats how a lot of the characters negative aspects work, they are fine untill the narative NEEDS them not to be. And no this isn't me trying to say "characters need to constantly be suffering from past issues with no growth" even though as I'm reading it back it kinda sounds like I am, but certain things just don't randomly go away before returning at the same extreme level as when it was before. If they had worked through Eddies relationship with his dad and explored it before them finding a working solution, fantastic, but then they don't need to bring it back up UNLESS something new happens that shifts the peace from before. Imagine if Nina never got over her home sickness but it only popped up every 5 episode. That would feel strange and weird. I would like to add that this isn't me saying that season 3 is awful and that the first two seasons don't also have these issues, but its more prevelant in season 3 and there was less 'intresting 'special' moments to make up for it.

Joy absolutely brought fabian a shit-ton of fabs during the summer as a joke on his nickname. He’d be like “I’m so hot” and bam 5 minuets later she’s shoving a fab ice lollie in his hand cuss she’s just so kind

“they tricked me, they both tricked me. I thought they liked me. all they wanted was the secrete, and i-i wouldn't tell them. I don't want to live forever” is one of the saddest lines said in this stupid show and I wont take critism. if I read that in a classic novel with my english teacher he’d be weeping tears and creaming over this stupid little quote because it hurts and the actor of Sarah who I cant rember the name off did SUCH a good job saying those lines I swear to god. like okay the acting in this show at times feels like a gcse performance but god damn when the acting's good its good 

Patricia and Alfie’s laundry room talk was one of the sweetest things in the show and I will stand by that. Two people, who are close and friends but arnt tight tight tight, and who normally mock each other to varying degrees just having a serious convocation and sharing advice on how to deal with trauma that they both have no idea how to process or deal with. Alfie isn’t pittying Patrica nor is she him it’s just mutual respect and understanding that ut sucks to be in this position. And like that’s just so lovely and pure to me? And like I know people ship them and honestly go for it they’d be cute but to me personally this scenes always jsut been platonic caring, especially when I was a kid and rarely saw a boy and a girl talking and being kind that wasn’t in some way relationship related. Just this show is beautiful when it comes to writing real characters and real friendships

the boys probs have bro nights and to those fools who arnt invited ( the girls) they probably think their like talking about girls and sport and just being stinky.  and I mean they’d be right they are being stinky and talking about girls, but their actually discussing the best way to force the girls into therapy because I'm pretty sure the only one who didn't get caught up in the sibuna shit was Mara and in the kindest way possible she isn't 100% okay and could definitely benefit from Therapy as well 

Patricia was a dick to Nina in the first few episodes and like don't get me wrong girl deserved to be pissed about Joy but DAMN going straight to “oh really your nan who took care of you after your parents died cares about you? you sure about that? because from what we see she packed your bags and sent you half way across the world” is such a girlboss move idk if it truly is her being a dick or her being deserving of ruling the world. 

anyway to ruin Alfie for me he defo listens to country music but its only when people on YouTube mash it with emo music and he listens to that constantly

do any of them have parents???? like I think amber has a dad and obviously Nina has her nan. Jerome has a dad I think and so does Eddie but where the fuck are their parents??? like the responsible ones? because if my kid returned home presumably having nightmares about a dead Egyptian god and or ghost or their friends dying...honestly id do nothing either. like its so unbelievable I'd probably assume its just them Larping to hard  shit are the parents good people for not calling out their kids weird roplaying habits? are the other kids who don't know what the weird kids with the whole curse shit are doing good people for not bullying them? because I know that if I did ANY of what they did I’d be bullied.

the most unrealistic thing about this show is the lack of field trips. like where’s the geography kids going to visit some random ass gardens in London that apparently have fancy plants but you went during winter because your schools thick as shit so all your seeing is dead grass? where's the drama kids being taken to a play for their GCSE only to realise taking 30 kids on a train who all think they know better then you and probably do is actually hell on earth?  wheres the history students going to the britihs mueseum and laughing over the naked statues ( aka the genetalia because teens are dumb) and whining that their feet hurt and buying way to much gift shop items for students who refuse to pay for food in the diner? like okay no I get not showing the first two ideas but for a show that literally revolves around a history time period them NEVER visiting a museum ( and no the display thing held in the library doesnt count) is such a pissy thing to do.  like imagine Fabian and Nina sneaking off to look at the egyptian part, Jerome and alfie trying to pretend to be art critics to pick up ladys b ut they accdentally start speaking to someone really smart and Jerome sorta hoes “oh shit...im into this please tell me more) and Alfie is pissed because ???? what no their meant to mock the posh twats who like this stuff together! and Patrica and Mara both trying to distract the teacher from realising their missing 2 studetns but for completely different reasons. Patrica because she knows why they’ve gone, mara because she thinks they’ve snuck off to make out and honestly ? ya girls proud of Fabian for finally getting a date that ISNT a picnick so shes willing to extend how long it takes for her to read each induvisual info plack. Mick is just trying to rember how to read and Amber is complaining about how the fashion is so cool why cant they focus on that instead 

They don't really explore Fabian being the only member of the original 3 in S3 at all. In fact, his character is reduced to background role for most episodes save for ones where they explore his dynamic with KT (one of the only saving graces of S3). The problem with the season as a whole is the original cast as a whole is wasted either by being reduced to romance subplots (Joy and Jerome especially who no longer are in the mystery) or reduced to one trait (Jealous Patricia and nerdy Fabian).

you know what your so right for this, honestly wouldn't be surprised if the goal of adding new characters to season 3 ( who I assume are all either first years or something similar because adding a whole cast of new last years is wild to me) was to create a setting for a possible season 4. cuss like obviously its set in a school so the cast can't stay the same forever and also the main cast was mainly young actors who probably don't wanna be tied down to a teens show for their entire possible career and stuff so new characters who clearly have a connection to the wider working plot makes sense. but no yeah as you rightfully mention because of this ( possible and probably inaccurate) setup I mentioned it causes the cast who stayed to become less relevant. their main character arcs have already been told in some ways, and whilst there are obviously more ways to go with a character sometimes its best not to. and like this ends up with, as you said, them becoming revolved around relationship drama that at times can feel really out of character? and also touch off the plot. its actually really interesting to delve into how both fantastic and utter crap this season is, and how sometimes those reasons intersect. and like obviously all the seasons had MAJOR issues, I don't want anyone to think I'm just hating on season 3 for no reason or because it changed the flow I just mainly remember me disliking season 3 as a kid and therefore obviously tend to criticise it more publicly I guess

alot of shipping drama is fixed with polyamory. so anyway hoa is a big polycule and when people try to explain it it sounds like a meme and not everyone's dating everyone but somehow their all linked. the teachers have a bet for who's dating who because some days they see Fabian and Nina walking through the halls with their hands linked, and the next they see Fabian and Mick hugging the hall way as Mick holds up a mirror behind Fabians back for Amber to use.  or like how Jerome is some days bugging Mara but clearly flirting with her, and the next he’s stealing Alfie's food and resting his feet in his lap.  oh and the whole no one ever being in their bed but whenever Victor can be asked to catch them he never finds the same 2 people sharing a bed

I think what really set hoa apart from other shows for me ( other then my kid brain thinking season one had 90 episodes) was that all the relationships felt real? and like not even the romantic ones the platonic ones especially.  like yeah some of the scene can come off as something out of a cheese romance fic but they can also come off as just them being friends and bonding? and especially bonding with people that they've known for ages but haven't really like connected with if that makes sense? and I think it really reminds me of my old classes where yeah we’d not talk but when it got to certain times ( like before an exam or a last day of school) where we’d all just band together and chat and laugh and be a group? that's what I see in the relationships shown on the screen.  but maybe that was also what was missing in season 3 for me at least, because it introduced a lot of new characters who didn't know anyone/ new a few people. with Nina and Eddie the show showed that the og house residence already knew these people so it felt like we with Nina were being introduced into their lives and becoming friends with them and forming the deep bonds they already had. and then with Eddie we still follow Nina sorta so its not as jarring as if the pov suddenly switched to Eddie for season 2 ( and I think it made Eddie being the protag in season 3 a much cleaner transition then it could have been).  but with season 3 there were a lot of new characters that didn’t have already formed dynamics. and to go from the tight knit group of season 2 to people leaving, relationship drama, old couples that we loved being replaced by the new people ( and that's not the characters fault nor is it exactly unrealistic but its jarring all the same if that makes sense) it feels odd. it feels like almost a season 1 relationship building style with a season 3 plot and at times it made the show harder to watch because it couldn't explore as many emotions without redoing them from Nina's time, and it couldn't explore as many plot dynamics because the bonds weren't as strong.

but like season 3? pretty good considering they lost their old protag and then also Amber. though I do with we saw Fabians struggle with both of them leaving more because like sabuna was the 3 of them to behind with, and to be the last of the founders must feel horrid. and then for Eddie to rightfully take the lead and Patricia to take his place as like the love interest to the lead it must have been awkward? idk maybe they did explore that its been years since I watched season 3 

trans Fabian is rotting my brain rn and its just ???? perfect.  him finding out his parents wrote him down a boy and being ecstatic and then realise oh shit I'm dorming with cisboy and panicking to the point he drags his massive suitcase all the way back to the gate in hopes of god randomly sending his parents back to pick him up ( they don't and victor ends up pissed at him and definitely makes a comment or two about him being a whimp but trudy is the girlboss she is and comforts him thinking he’s just homesick). Anyway he walks into his room finally and sees the man the myth the legend, Mick whos got sports gear everywhere and a massive Smile who rushes in to give him a hug because he's stoked about this to have a brother at this school and Fabian thinks for a moment that actually maybe this is going to go well. and it does go well because Micks epic and when he finds out Fabian is trans dude doesn't know what that means he just sorta goes “....we’re still roommates right?” because he couldn't care less what his friend is as long as Fabian is his friend.
