I don't know if it's just me, but I always saw what Max was doing as teaching Bart to mask (in the way society teaches autistic people to mask).

While Wally wanted Bart to change, Max just wanted Bart to be able to fit in without criticism.

It's so interesting that Max on multiple occasions confronted Wally about his frustrations with Bart by saying matter of factly "This is who Bart is and this is his inherent nature" as a point of criticism on Wally's approach only to in his own home to try force him to change his very nature and persistently refused to try and understand him.

They make my mind spin like spinach in a salad spinner.

My pitch for Absolute Impulse

(and Thad, but shh)

Instead of Bart being saved and sent to the past by Meloni and Iris, he instead stays in the future and under the rule of President Thawne.

He is then basically groomed and made into a super-soldier/mercenary for the government along side Thad (who is Barts' twin and not a clone). The two grow up in VR together and the simulation basically trained them to be said soldiers.

Then they two get sent back in time by President Thawne to kill Wally - who is their father, because we don't have Barry.

In the end, the two have a redemption arc and end up helping Wally while still having the skills and mindset of children who were groomed into soldiers.

The reason Bart and Thad grow up together in VR is to create a sense of only having each other. They won't be loyal to Thawne, only to each other simply because they are the only ones they've ever known. The lack of human contact in Barts' backstory always seemed weird to me, since it wasn't really explored, so having the two of them will allow them to still have the sense of humanity.

The ageing problem: For those unaware, Bart experienced rapid ageing dur to the speed force and was only able to start ageing normally when Wally fixed him. This gets changed to the scientist fixing them, but after a longer time - so Bart and Thad are both ~15-16 when they go to the past instead of being 12-15.

Wally being their dad is so they have more of a connection (also I think It'd be really cool if Wally didn't know and Bart and Thad used it against him once he found out). Also because, again, there is no Barry.

Lastly, the whole VR thing. I always found it weird that the VR was like a weird game/fever dream. Like, why would the government spend so much money and time on a child to get nothing out of it? So, having the VR actually be more similar to something like Elden Ring or Skyrim where it's opened world and they can talk to whoever - but they have to fight a bunch of big bads. It'll also be really intreating to explore the lack of care for other human life because they wouldn't realise that people aren't just code until later. (murder twins, and when Wally gets mad at them they get confused because they simply don't understand)

Uhhh... yeah. Bart and Thad being brother and child soldiers for the government sent back in time to kill their father is something I'd like to see.

(I just want to explore the consequences of children being raised in VR and not being socially conditioned properly... man, I have issues).

I like the idea of Bart being weirdly tall. Like, not Amazon or Kryptonian tall, just like a tall human while the rest of the speedster are average height or shorter.

I like to think he gets it from his mum :)

If Thad was to ever come back (and was characterised/written correctly), he should join the Outlaws to complete the set of Bat, Kryptonian, Speedster, and Amazon.

It would also be really funny to watch everyone else react to that (especially Bart and Tim)

The amount of joy I feel is immeasurable.

Slightly belated Happy Father’s Day to the man who never wanted kids and the boy who needed a dad. Print in the reblogs.

I really cannot express how much this piece of work means to me! As corny as it sounds I really found this story at the perfect point in my life, I initially started reading the impulse 1995 comics when I was 14 and I ended up falling upon this story when I was 17 I just immediately fell in love! The concept was so creative and fit into the pre-existing plot line perfectly! All the new characters are so enjoyable to read, Nathaniel and Jude have such a wonderful and also sad dynamic, as a twin my self every scene with them just really hit me in the heart! Six especially in the first several chapters was so comically annoying and clearly insecure, in a way that I think a lot of us can relate to, one way or another especially when we got to here is internal monologue, I’ve always been a sucker for the asshole character with an air of insouciance and superiority, who by the end of the story, just ends up being a pretty all right guy! And Five oh my god five! I love this guy so much! he’s just so genuine and someone who clearly cares deeply, and him being technically the physically oldest in the room, but also being the one with the least amount of experience is a very literal take on an experience I think a lot of people have felt, myself included, And I think we all know I’m a Three apologist, his whole story is just so devastating and haunting, part of me is always rooting for him, whilst also being terrified for what he might do to the other characters, there is so much complexity with his relationships with the other characters, such as five and four, every time theirs a seen with three and four the writing always makes me feel so on edge and is really able to puts me in three’s shoes! And god! The way three and five interact is so sweet and sad there relationship is just too much! The last chapter absolutely destroyed me!! And Bart and Thad are so perfectly characterized it truly just feels like a natural progression of their characters, the way they both are just really struggling to deal with the inevitability of change hit me so hard, like I said I started reading the impulse comics when I was 14 so these characters have such a place in my heart, so now being able to read about them going through these struggles, when I was also experiencing a lot of change, is such a comfort to me, it was like in a way these characters got older with me, and you know it’s always nice to see some of your childhood characters going through the same stuff as you, currently being a slightly terrified 18 year old, it was great to be able to read about two other slightly terrified 18 year olds, anyways I wanted to post some of my sketches from the past few weeks, and don’t worry there are definitely more to come cause I don’t think I’ll ever be able to stop drawing these guys!

I cleaned up the sketches I made of Jude and Nathaniel! Also I’ve got to give credit to @styxtrixmix since I was clearly quite inspired by their last post, and if you haven’t seen their work I highly recommend it! Their art is so creative!!🫶🫶

Oh boy more three art! who could’ve seen that coming, jokes aside I really enjoyed making this piece! I just went absolutely ham with the colors, I had way too much fun with this! I’d also Love to say a big old, thank you to everyone who’s been enjoying my art! I’m just out here making silly drawings of some silly characters from an extremely niche story that I love! And I am just so happy that my work was able to find some people that like it!!💖💖🙈🙈

Just finished up a study of one of Malcolm .T. Liepke’s works! If you can’t tell from my profile picture he is one of my favorite artists, he truly has a way with painting that looks slightly unfinished and loose while still having the right amount of detail to keep it feeling like realism! I definitely took some creative liberties with the colors and values. but of course I couldn’t help but think of three, when revisiting some of his works for some inspiration this piece has been one of my favorites for awhile! it’s always felt reminiscent of Alexandre Cabanel’s “the fallen angel” especially with a curled in position and the focus on the eyes. So I just had to re-create it with three!🙈🙈 This story and its characters have clearly found a place in my heart 💖💖 @cryptocism
