Unpopular opinion abt Mulan live action : That movie is actually good, but not at being Mulan.
Let me explain, live action Mulan is a girl who's naturally talented. And I liked that. I liked the fact that her talent could have been to waste because she's a woman. She's talented, like many other women living on this earth, but her talent wasn't acknowledged because she was a woman. That reminds me of that sentence : “How many Einstein’s have spent their lives washing dishes, how many Mozart’s bent over stoves instead of pianos, because they had the misfortune of being born a woman?”
I think that's what the movie was actually talking about. The fact that talented girls go to waste, because they're lucky enough to be men. And I liked that.
But, the real Mulan isn't naturally talented. And that's why the live action kinda weird me out. Mulan had to work to be like that. She used her intelligence to defeat ennemis. She had difficulties, but went past that because she's determined, more than anyone. That was the meaning of the movie. The fact that Mulan had to work her ass off just success.
Live action Mulan and actual Mulan are totally different. That's why I don't think that movie should have been a live action Mulan, but something else. Something highly inspired by Mulan, but not Mulan. And that's lowkey disappointing that such a movie went to waste bc they used Mulan as a main character, while only taking her name and not her actual struggles.
So, I was watching Mulan and Cardcaptor Sakura alternatively, when I noticed the last names of the lead men.
Li.
Wasn't it the woman/mother who was Chinese, and the man/father the English/British as Clow Reed's parents?
I also noticed that Shang married Mulan- who in the military, was accompaniee by a magical spirit dragon.
WHAT IF! Because Mushu (said dragon) took a liking(as companions/daughters) to the female of Fa-Li family's children, he started teaching them magic.
(We all know his age is not as simple as we thought, and he might be more than a decade or century old.)
So, by the time the English/ British had invaded China, the (Fa) Li families descendants is attuned to Asian magic.
That just means that Syoaran is a direct descendant of Mulan and Shang.
It also explains the attitude/personality:
Syoaran has Shang's temper, has Mulan's shyness towards their crushes, and both their skills in martial arts.
His sister's are like Grandma Fa, very playful.
It also make sense that Clow's parents became close in the first place.
Both families are distinguished. So both will be welcomed in the high society, leading them to meet.
That's all!!
I've actually always wanted to post this, but always forgot.
