Thanks for asking about this! I get that it can seem confusing or contradictory to some so Im happy to discuss it :)

For one, transspecies isn't transID, it's just.. a regular trans identity. The term transspecies has existed within the alterhuman community for literal decades, long before the creation of the "transID" community. It's a term that has quite literally been stolen and appropriated by a group of people who the majority of alterhumans dislike and want no part in. In terms of origin, function, and social implications, it is infinitely more comparable to being transgender (an identity i don't see ever being included in transID specific discussions) than it is to something like "transBPD".

Secondly, even if it was somehow transID (which again it's not), it still doesn't carry any of the same discriminatory mindset or just flat out impossibility of existence the way most transID do. Species identity and the idea of what it means to be "human" is almost entirely socially constructed, not completely dissimilar to gender. There are rules and de facto societal ideas about how someone must "be a human", which not everyone can neatly fit into. It is something experienced by all beings living within human society, and is therefore something that can be transitioned away from or out of. Whereas something like being autistic is not socially constructed and not something someone can simply transition into. While yes, there are certainly social implications, expectations, and roles placed upon autistic individuals, autism itself is not a social construct, it's an actual tangible neurological phenomenon, making it impossible to be "transautistic".

This ideology also promotes discriminatory beliefs against minority groups. It dismembers and fetishizes the lived experiences of entire cultures, communities, and individuals, lived experiences these "trans" individuals will literally never have. If you are not "cis autistic" you will never ever truly know what it is like to live as an autistic person, no matter how badly you want to. Same can be said for other transID identities. I understand that atypical dysphoria does exist (hell, I have some of my own), and I dont doubt that these are real emotions people have, but that doesn't make it okay to try and say you actually are those things and impose yourself upon groups of people you are not part of. I guess if someone has a harmless transID like "trans brown hair color" or smth then I don't really care all that much, but otherwise I have zero tolerance for people who believe they can forcibly integrate themselves into an entire culture just because they feel like it.

TLDR: Transspecies isn't TransID it's just regular trans, but even if it was I would still support it because it doesn't promote discriminatory and fetishistic ideas about certain groups of people.

Massive gripe ive been having with primarily the therian community lately, I really dont feel like we focus enough on animal rights causes considering how "connected" we're supposed to be to nonhumans.

Like I see it around for sure, but when I do it usually isn't more than just "hunting for sport is bad👍" or "dont beat your dog 👍" and that's it. The main focus of the community is still very much on biologically human individuals rather than on bio nonhumans, who are very literally treated like garbage in society and it's frustrating because i feel like we should be right there on the front lines when it comes to animal liberation.

Im not saying all of us need to be members of ALF or anything, im not even vegan and have no plans to be, but as of rn the community's overall acknowledgment and support of animal rights causes is pretty pathetic. Hell, I still hear therians confidently and proudly infantilize adult/highly intelligent nonhuman species ("animals have the intelligence of human toddlers") and spread blatant misinformation about them. Shit just annoys me

one day very soon therianthropy/nonhuman identities are gonna hit mainstream and i can tell you right now it is NOT gonna be pretty

🐾 ➤ Yes and no. For my wolf and coyote theriotype, yep I live in the same environment! Coyotes hang out a lot around where I live and there's a wolf pack about 20 miles from my house I think. It's super nice and makes me feel very at home. As for my other theriotypes no, and the only one who's environment I'd like to live in is my otter type, since the other two live on the savanna and I don't really like excessive heat/dryness lol (I also would enjoy living in the northwestern region of Europe which is the environment i associate Wolfbloods with, but idk if that fully counts since technically Wolfbloods can live anywhere lmao)

🦷 ➤ It's a combo of spiritual and psychological for me. Some of my kintypes (like wolfblood and wolf) stem from being autistic and "imprinting" on these creatures when I was young or from multiple kintype experiences mushing together to make smth new (wolf + wildebeest + human = coyote), whereas others (like AWD and otter) I view as past life experiences. However, I also believe that my neurodivergency allows me to better connect to spiritual aspects of myself. So while some parts of my nonhumanity are spiritual in origin, they're all through the lens of neurodivergency.

🐅 ➤ Sort of? I usually only dress in natural/earthy colors which might be connected to my therianthropy in someway, as for specific theriotypes tho not really. If im feeling particularly connected to my canine types I might wear a tail or dress more masculine, but other than that no I dress pretty much the same all the time.

🐞 ➤ Yep! I have shifts from time to time. Mental, phantom, and dream shifts are the ones I experience. Most of the time they're canine centric.

Mental shifts are pretty uncommon, at least the ones that are actually intense enough for me to realize they're happening lol. I'll have them maybe once every few months. The ways I feel/act depend on what triggered the shift or what environment I was in when it happened, but usually I'll become energetic and more aware of my surroundings, I think less in actual thoughts and more so in basic emotions/instincts, I want to be away from humans and civilization, sometimes i'll have an increased prey drive or become more aggressive, and speaking feels uncomfortable. It's both a fun and annoying experience; fun because i feel more in tune with myself and feel physically stronger, annoying because usually when it happens im not in a place/situation where I can indulge it so I have to ignore it and act normal to the best of my abilities until it goes away.

Phantom Shifts really only happen when I meditate, or my body is otherwise relaxed (like when Im trying to sleep). The most common limb I'll feel are paws in place of my hands, but Ive also felt paws on my feet, a muzzle, wings on my back, and fangs. The best way I can describe how they feel is like wearing a glove or a shoe. Even though it technically isn't part of your body, you can still feel it attached to you, and if someone touched it you'd still be able to feel it.

Dream Shifts are the least common but most enjoyable shifts I have. Oddly, Im rarely physically nonhuman during these shifts, rather Im just able to run on all fours really fluidly, fly, vocalize, and/or in a mental shift mindset. I've always had extremely vivid and lifelike dreams where I can see, hear, and feel almost everything (both a blessing and a curse), so it's nice being able to feel almost fully nonhuman for once.

I think we need to normalize using "people" as a species neutral word.

Like idk in my brain the word people just doesn't automatically = human. To me it's just a way to signify intelligence and individuality, and to emphasize the need for respect towards another creature, not specific to any one species.

Dogs can be people, mice can be people, dragons can be people, humans can be people, birds can be people, elves can be people, robots can be people, and so on.

It's also (in my opinion) just much easier than always saying "beings" or "individuals" when referring to varying assortments of creatures.

The whole idea that forcing shifts is bad and something you shouldn't do really irks me ngl. Like yeah, if you're using it as a way to determine kintypes that's definitely not the best route to go down, but with already confirmed kintypes idk what everyone's issue is. Personally, I don't get shifts of any kind too often, so by forcing them, specifically in the case of phantom shifts, I'm able to relieve some of my species dysphoria that I may not otherwise have an outlet for. If anything, I think actively trying to get yourself to shift rather than passively waiting for one to happen (not that there's anything wrong with that) is further proof of your desire to be connected to your nonhumanity.

i always forget to write in mine lmao, but when i do i kinda just use it as an all purpose journal with a therian theme. Sometimes I write down my thoughts for / a summary of the day, usually focusing in on the nonhuman-y things that happened. But then I also used it to keep some fur from the first deer skull i ever scavenged, sketch out my theriotypes, and to design my own collection of symbols that eventually i'll use to mark and map my outdoor territory. Really, it's just about whatever aspects of nonhumanity are important to you, and the things you feel are worth documenting!

Transspecies has been a term within the alterhuman community long before radqueers decided to coopt it, it is not inherently part of that community and never will be. I promise you there are other spaces/people out there that will support you for who you are; you do not need to align yourself with harmful ideologies just to find acceptance. <3

I've talked before about how canine centric the nonhuman community is, but what also bothers me is how even the language is made to center canines. Terms like graymuzzle for example, or sometimes I'll hear about "alterhuman packs." (Are they? Or are they just wolf packs?) Hell, I've even heard that the term "shift" came from werewolf shapeshifting.

If I'm in this community long enough, I don't ever want to be called graymuzzle or be referred to with canine language, because I am not a canine in any way, shape, or form. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I do not want to be represented by canines. They're experiences are not universal.
