"How does drinking bones even work? Like melting them?" Ochako asked before shuddering. (nuravity)
Oh no, now Uraraka was getting involved too.
"I was thinking more along the lines of lemonade or orange juice. Breaking the bones and squeezing them- why are we even thinking about how this works?"
☆ Getting them something they need before they ask for it. (nuravity)
Brr!
A shiver ran through his body while sitting in the common room of the dorms. Rody decided to study here instead of his temporary room; it was good to have a change of scenery.
But who the hell kicked the AC into high gear?
Originally he thought he could power through his studying and ignore that he was cold, but damn it, his hair was standing on end. I need to get a blanket- or change into a hoodie at least. He froze at the feeling of something being draped around his shoulders just as he was going to get up.
Surprised gray eyes met brown. "Oh- thanks, Uraraka."
“You sure you don’t have a mind-reading quirk, too?”
❝ i don’t want to be like this. i want to change but i don’t know where to start. ❞ (nuravity)
"Self-reflection...?" His mouth had opened before he got to think.
“I mean...” Now he was properly trying to find the correct words. “...Change takes time and effort. I know that first-hand. If you want to change, in whatever way that it is, it’s good to just sit down and... think it through.” How was Rody always giving out life advice?
“There may not be a clear place to start either. It depends on the situation. If you want to specify the situation that is... up to you.”
Rody was happily surprised at the 180 her attitude took. It was amazing what some words of support and reassurance could do. Looks like he was good for something after all.
“D’aw~” He waved a hand at her, trying to be all suave as Pino hid her face into her wings. “It’s just really touching, you know? You have all of these hero friends who most likely, definitely, share the same worries as you. You could have talked to any one of them, but you chose to talk to little ol’ me.” Rody leaned forward in his seat, resting his elbow on his knee and his chin in his hand.
“You can talk to me if you ever need anything else, friend.”
Ochako's hands turned to fists at her sides, brows furrowing before she shut her eyes. Of course he was right but...it made her feel like...she wasn't enough. "I...can't even make the life of my parents easier. And I don't want to feel like...like I'm not a good heroine." She sighed and opened her eyes. "It's just...I've seen how fragile this whole world is and I wish I could do more, even if I can't do anything for myself."
She put on a sad smile. "I guess that's a silly thought, huh?"
@rody-soul
He watched as her usual smile finally came back. It made him happy that he could cheer her up.
Rody couldn’t hold his own smile back as she spoke with more energy this time around. It seemed his words really did mean something to her. “There you go. That’s the mindset you should have.” He smiled bigger. “You’re exactly where you need to be to achieve the best version of yourself. It’s okay to have worries and doubts, but never forget that you will reach your end goal.”
He glanced at her fist before looking back at her, seeing the determination in her eyes. A small laugh came from him. He wasn’t used to the word ‘hero’ being directed towards him. “Yeah, you’re welcome. I’m glad I could help and thanks for... confiding in me.” It was usually hard for Rody to trust others so easily. Thus, it was nice to see that his friend trusted him enough to express her own worries to him.
Ochako's hands turned to fists at her sides, brows furrowing before she shut her eyes. Of course he was right but...it made her feel like...she wasn't enough. Rody knew first-hand that Deku was on another level with his quirk. Whatever it was... It allowed him to do a lot and was definitely fitting for a hero, but so many other quirks were also well-suited for the job. Not every hero had a power-type quirk, and that was okay.
"Of course I do. I know you can. You’re only going to keep improving and become an even better hero as time goes on.” He shifted a bit in his seat. "It's normal and completely understandable that you want to do so much more. It's just not attainable right now. But it will be eventually. All you can do is keep working harder and get stronger so that you can do more later down the line. You have to focus on the present since that ultimately affects your future."
Phew, that was a lot. He didn't have a sincere talk like this often.
"Eh, but what do I know, right?" Rody gave a shrug. "I may not be a hero myself, but I did mean every word I said."
Ochako's hands turned to fists at her sides, brows furrowing before she shut her eyes. Of course he was right but...it made her feel like...she wasn't enough. Rody also didn't like seeing kids get all upset. Roro and Lala were all he could think of while looking at this kid and thinking of the situation he had gone through. It really tugged at a soft spot in his heart.
A playground and an ice cream shop was good information to have. It was easier to find those places than trying to narrow down one house. Rody waited patiently for Uraraka as she went to retrieve her shoe, looking down at the kid beside him. How else could he try and cheer him up...?
"Would holding Pino help calm you down a bit more?" He knelt down, holding the bird gently in his extended hands. "She's really sweet and... her feathers are soft." Pino chirped, extending her wings to show off those pretty pink feathers of hers.
Time flew by like the wind. Between classwork and trying to help Rody feel accommodated at UA, Ochako had barely enough time for herself!
But she decided to ask Hatsume for a new upgrade to her uniform and was passing the hallway when she noticed Rody's door to his guest room stood open. Sneaking a peak, she poked her head in but to her surprise he didn't seem to be there. Had he simply forgotten to close the door?
Scratching her head, she continued on her way to Hatsume when her stomach growled. Although she had a small lunch a few hours prior and wasn't very hungry, she still wanted to eat something.
I guess I'll meet Hatsume later.
With that thought, Ochako made her way to the kitchen to see if she could find a snack.

Rody’s eyebrows shot up, staring at Uraraka in disbelief. Even if she had some sort of point... Even if those with more powerful quirks could do more...
“It’s enough. At least I think it is.” Who knew how much importance Rody’s opinion really held. He could be saying nonsense. “You say only power can save people, but you’ve saved people yourself. You and Deku have completely different quirks, but you can both save people with them in your own way. Your quirk is your strength and you choose to use it for the better.”
“I really don’t think it’s average at all.” He glanced at Pino for a quick moment. “Your quirk has a ton of potential. You have a ton of potential.”
Ochako's hands turned to fists at her sides, brows furrowing before she shut her eyes. Of course he was right but...it made her feel like...she wasn't enough. "You're a good kid. That in itself makes your parents' life easier. You'll be able to help them out more some day soon." He continued to reassure her. "Your career is only just starting, you don't have to be so hard on yourself. You're doing as much as you can do at this moment in time." She was still a student. She had so much more time to experience things and grow.
"I don't think it's silly."
"It's sweet and... selfless." It made Rody wonder how many heroes thought like this. Did the few heroes in Otheon feel guilty...? Pino's feathers drooped at the thought.
Ochako's hands turned to fists at her sides, brows furrowing before she shut her eyes. Of course he was right but...it made her feel like...she wasn't enough. Ochako shook her head at Rody's words before glancing down at Pino. "It's not me not wanting to be a hero. It's just that ... no matter how many people I save, there's always people who are suffering and that I can't reach. And sometimes, I'm just wondering if there's ever going to be a 'symbol of peace' if there is no peace at all." (nuravity) (if you want me to make a new post, say it)
Rody leaned back in his chair, letting the words set in. They hit a little too close to home since he had no heroes there to protect him and his siblings. He was silent for a moment as he gathered his thoughts.
"It'll always be like that. You can't... really change that. There's never going to be citywide, countrywide, or even worldwide peace. But you can at least bring peace to those that you can reach."
"As much as it hurts to admit, you can't save everyone. That's the simple truth."
❝ i don’t know how much longer i can keep this up. ❞ (nuravity)
"Wh- Huh?" Oh no, this sounded like something serious. Was Uraraka... doubting herself? Pino flew over and rested on the other's lap out of worry and to provide some sort of comfort. "...What do you mean? You're not talking about you being a hero... are you?" This was probably the softest Rody had ever spoken to Uraraka yet. There was no way she was giving up on her dream.
Right?
“Good. That’s good.” A visible sigh of relief came from Rody. He didn’t expect the situation to escalate in such a way; he was glad Uraraka was alright. That they were all alright. At least this whole situation was almost resolved. The worst of it was over.
Rody stood by as the kidnapper was taken away, rubbing the kid’s back in comfort when he heard his voice getting shaky. Pino sat on Rody’s shoulder, showing a clear display of concern through her eyes and body language. “She’s right. We’ll find them. Or they’ll find us.” Parents missing a child? They must be in a panic and calling whoever they can.
“Say, is there any place near your home that you like to go to often? Like a park?” Rody asked with a gentle smile. That way, they would be closer to the kid’s house, while also providing a type of distraction.

Ochako: *pulls out her old fashioned phone to take a picture*
“Alright. This is acceptable.” He made sure to pose and smile for the camera.
Pino chirped loudly, flapping her wings all about. She was staying glued to this man and giving him an earful while doing so.
The man growled in frustration since Pino was blocking his vision and being annoying. He flailed his hands to swat the bird away, managing to do so after many failed attempts. But just as he got rid of one problem, another one grabbed hold of him. Before he could retaliate, his face met the hard ground, grimacing against the pavement in pain and defeat.
Rody was off the phone by now, slowly stepping out of the alley with the kid in his arms. Poor thing was scared and rightfully so. "Uravity!" He called out to the hero, staying back just in case. "Help is on the way! Are you okay?!" Pino was alright, by the way. She was a little out of it but was slowly gathering herself on the sidewalk.

Rody's eyes were locked on Uraraka and the guy, watching with concern from his corner. There was click in his ear. The call went through. "What's your emergency?"
"There's a-" There's something flying at him. Fast. Rody quickly ducked back into the alley way, grabbing the kid gently but urgently with his free hand to move them away from the opening. The projectile slammed into the wall opposite of them, Rody shielding the kid from any debris that might have flown off.
They were fine.
Rody went back to the phone call, telling the operator where they were and what the situation was. Thankfully, law enforcement wouldn't take too long to arrive. They just had to hold out until then.
The kidnapper flinched as the motorcycle changed its trajectory, running and dodging out of the way as it crashed behind him with a hefty thud. He didn't want to take the risk of his air not being enough and potentially being crushed by the thing.
He regained focus, looking up to locate Uraraka and readied another blast. Just as he was about to take fire, a certain pink bird flew right into his face, causing his aim to go off and miss the hero.

Rody ducked into an alley way that was a safe distance away from the commotion but close enough to keep an eye on it. He set the kid down carefully, crouching down to his eye level with a reassuring smile on his face. "Everything's going to be okay. We'll get you back to your parents. Just hang tight, alright?"
The brunette pulled out his phone to call the police. He put the phone up to his ear, his foot tapping while it rang. Hearing a loud thud caused him to peek around the corner of the alley to check on Uraraka. His eyes widened in concern seeing that she had been knocked into a building. But seeing her bounce right back eased his worries... a bit. How the hell were heroes so durable?
The kidnapper was ready to walk away after she made contact with the wall, but stopped in place when she yelled. He quickly turned around, crouching down to dodge for extra caution as he aimed his arms toward the debris. One hand produced a forceful blast, directing one of the projectiles back to Uraraka. The other hand produced a vacuum-like suction and caught the second projectile mid-air as he made it come towards him. With a quick turn and switch of hands, he propelled the piece to where Rody was peeking his head out from. He didn’t forget about her comrade.

The guy wasn't answering any of her questions. There was no reason to. This whole scene was a waste of time. Considering the distance between them, when she shouted, the last thing he expected was a shoe to fly at him. And hit him straight in the face. "Gah!" His grip loosened immensely from the attack. Pino quickly flew down to peck the dude's hand to give it the small little push that it needed while Uraraka took care of his other arm. The kid was free!
Now Rody had an opening. He ran straight for the kid and crouched down with his arms wide open, only pausing for a moment to wrap his arms around him. "I need you to hold onto me, okay buddy?" He instructed as he lifted the child up and continued to run. The kid needed to be kept safe and away from the danger. Rody glanced back at Uraraka and the bad guy. Even if the kid was the priority, he wondered if she would need his assistance.
As Rody made haste with the kid in hand, the man growled in pure frustration. Now that he had a free hand again, since he was no longer holding the kid, he directed a huge burst of air towards the hero as he tried to pull his arm out of her strong hold. He wouldn't let himself go down this easily!

As Rody came to a stop at a safe distance away, Pino left his person to get an aerial view and perched herself on the building nearby. It wouldn't be smart to run straight at him. He could've had a knife or something else up his sleeve to do harm. They had to do this smartly, and hopefully not get hurt in the process. Though, he would rather get hurt than the kid taking a blow.
"Shut. Up." The man seethed as he yanked the kid. Now that these two were here, his patience was really running thin.
Rody glanced down at the hero next to him, deciding it was best to follow her surrendering farce. He picked up on the little movements she was doing and could tell she had some sort of plan. Rody went onto his knees, holding his hands out and away from him. “No funny business from us; none from you. Seems fair, right?”
The man scoffed, not all that impressed with their display. "If I wanted money, I would be robbing a bank, not grabbing a kid." He kept a hold of the kids arm, taking a step back. Even if he had his own quirk to defend himself, he had no clue what these two could possibly do. “Just stay where you are and don’t concern yourselves with this. It’s better to not cause a ruckus.”
Rody took another glance at Uraraka, watching from the corner of his eye for any cue or movement she might give. Pino left her perch and made sure to fly high and stay behind the kidnapper so she was out of sight. She and Rody were ready to go.

Hearing Uraraka admit that she used to care about popularity and all that gave Rody a moment of whiplash. That's exactly how Rody grew up seeing all heroes; that they only cared about the fame and money. That was the reason why there were basically no heroes around in Otheon; they had nothing to gain from helping out that criminal-infested city.
He was happy to hear her change in attitude regarding that. "See? True hero material. You have a good heart."
Rody froze, money in hand, also noticing the kid outside. Pino quickly retreated into his ponytail. While Uraraka's hero instincts were kicking in, Rody's "big brother" ones were activated. As soon as she left the table, Rody cursed under his breath as he frantically shoved his book into the backpack he brought with him. This book was too damn expensive to just leave behind.
He rushed outside, just in time to see the hero get shoved. "Uraraka!" She seemed okay, considering that she was getting up so easily. His eyes followed to find the culprit, and once he saw the black coat, he was locked on target.
Rody sprinted past Uraraka, covering ground quickly. It did cross his mind that the man might be the kid’s parent, but why would the kid be screaming for help if that was the case? Rody had experienced way too many kidnapping situations in Otheon, it was better to be safe than sorry.
“Hey!” Rody called out as the guy finally got his grubby hands on the kid. He didn’t like how hard he was grabbing the kid, and how scared they seemed to be. Something definitely wasn’t right.

Pino chirped softly and happily at the small bit of affection she got to receive. She decided to settle where she was for the moment, getting comfortable in her spot.
"Thanks. The same goes for you. I know the whole hero thing must be super tough some times. You have to balance regular classes, hero work, and a personal life. And, from what I've heard, you and your class have been through a lot. I commend you and them for pushing through. You're all going to be fantastic heroes." He grinned as he playfully winked towards her. "I'll be seeing Uravity in the news in no time! And I have the honor to say that I know her."
Out of manners, he wanted to deny the money. Out of someone who isn't very well-off, he kind of didn't want to deny it. "Oh- are you sure?" Rody asked as he was already hesitantly taking the money. "I guess it is fair. We each bought one and shared."

He gave a shrug and a smirk in response. "They're respectful, for the most part. Some exceptions." Guess the curiosity got the best of some individuals. At least they wouldn't steal anything; wouldn't make sense to.
"Of course of course, thank you for joining me." Rody's eyebrows shot up at the bluntness before laughing softly as he glanced down at Pino. "She likes you too." He took a bite of his half of the croissant as Pino made her way even closer to the hero, looking up at her. "You can pet her if you want." Rody mumbled while covering his mouth since he was chewing.
Rody scratched at his cheek, a bit flustered by the praise. "I've got a long journey ahead of me to become one so it means a lot to hear that, Uraraka. Thank you." Studying this kind of stuff was frustrating sometimes, but that's how life was. He would keep pushing through until he reached his dream. Now that he was on this new path in his life, he wasn't getting off it.
"I could get us another one to split. Half of one isn't a very fulfilling snack." Uraraka did sound hungry after all.

Rody waved a hand. "Nah, you're not at fault for that, don't worry. I think your class is respectful enough to not invade someone's space without permission. Plus, I've got nothing to hide; all they would really find is a bunch of notes and books on my desk." Well, the secret behind Pino was something to hide but it's not like he had that written down anywhere.
His grin only got larger, appreciating how considerate Uraraka was. "I'm just doing some light reading. Come on, I insist." He really didn't mind the company, especially with someone so nice. Pino even made her way closer to the new guest, feeling comfortable in her presence.
"Not always. I was studying in my room before coming here. Needed to stretch my legs and get out for a bit." Rody took a sip of his coffee before continuing, a certain sparkle in his eyes now that his passion had been brought up due to the book. "It's super interesting if you're into planes and piloting and things like that. Otherwise, it might read as super boring." There were a lot of physics and algebra involved. Focused on the words of his book, he almost didn't realize that someone was waving at him. He practically stopped drinking his coffee mid-sip when he saw who it was, Pino doing the same with her water.
"Uraraka...?" His eyes followed her as she made her way into the place, setting his coffee and book down to the side. He waved in Uraraka's direction once she approached the table. "Hey! Ah, I must have not shut it all the way behind me. My bad." Rody gave an apologetic smile.
Rody and Pino both perked up at the sound of the growl. "Oh-" Rody reached forward, ripping the croissant he had in half. "Looks like you came out here for a snack, eh?" He held out one half of the croissant towards her, gesturing to the seat across from him. "Wanna join me for a bit?"

Down the street from the prestigious hero school, Rody was at a small local café. After spending the past few hours holed up in his room working on math and geography assignments, the aspiring pilot decided that he deserved some fresh air along with a coffee to keep him going.
Rody practiced what he needed to say to the worker before he got there and managed to order in broken Japanese. Now with a coffee in hand, along with the rest of his order, the brunette took a seat outside to enjoy the afternoon. Pino got to enjoy her own cup of water and pick on Rody’s croissant as he took out a book on flight theory and aerodynamics. Even on his “break” he still wanted to be productive.
“Much better than being in that room all day, huh Pino?”
