Day 11: Secret Santa, Rin Itoshi

Anri you angel, thank you for giving us a secret Santa in this extreme soccer boot camp. Is what (_____) thought as they walked back to their room from training. 3 weeks ago everyone drew names and (_____) got Rin. They really enjoyed his company. He was always so quiet and made sure they were ok after training or a match.
(_____) was now sitting on their bed and finishing tapping the last part of the wrapping paper. Finally they were done wrapping Rin’s gift. They were smiling to themselves as Isagi walked in and questioned them. “Why are you smiling (_____)?” (_____) snapped out of their daze and looked wide eyed at Isagi, a smidge of awkwardness. “Oh Isagi! Sorry, I was just happy that I wrapped my gift.” He smiled and sat next to them. “I just gave Bachira his and he was so excited.” (_____) giggled and imagined how excited Bachira was getting a gift from his best friend.
”Isagi, have you seen Rin? I need to give him his gift.” They asked curiously. Isagi thought for a second and then nodded. “Yeah, he was getting his food in the cafeteria.” (_____) smiled and thanked him before grabbing the present and running to the cafeteria. They spotted Rin at a table by himself and jogged up to him. “Rin!” They said as they stood next to him. “Surprise! I’m your secret Santa!” (_____) said happily as they held out the gift.
Rin just stared at the present for a good couple seconds. He then grabbed their arm and led them away. (_____) was confused but let him nonetheless. He Brought them to his room and had them sit on his bed. “Uh… Rin?” (_____) was even more confused now as he was rummaging through his closet. After a bit he sat next to them and handed them a box. “I’m also your secret Santa.” He said without looking at them.
(_____)’s eyes sparkled as they thanked him and opened the present. Their smile grew x10 bigger as they saw what was on the box. They squealed out of happiness and hugged Rin tightly. They then handed him the present they got for him. Rin opened the box, his eyes widening. He couldn’t believe that (_____) had gotten him this. He moved the box and tackled (_____) into a hug, nuzzling his face into their neck. Oh yeah, one more thing about Rin and (_____), they’re dating.
They’ve been dating for over 1 year now but wanted to keep it a secret so as to not draw attention to themselves. The two stayed in Rin’s room cuddling. (_____) running their fingers through Rin’s hair. He was so happy, he just sometimes didn’t know how to say or show it.

Rin sat cross-legged on the floor, iPad propped up against a pillow like it was a shrine. His AirPods were in, tongue slightly poking out the corner of his mouth in deep concentration.
You peeked over his shoulder.
“Are you playing Talking Ben?”
He didn’t even blink. “Ben’s giving me stock advice.”
You snorted. “You’re literally arguing with a cartoon dog.”
“He said no when I asked if you’re annoying.” Rin turned to you, deadpan. “He lies.”
“That's pity Rin.” He grumbled and closed the app and opened roblox instead, clicking on a game.
You flopped next to him, stealing one AirPod and sticking it in. The iPad immediately blasted some chaotic Roblox tycoon music.
“You made your avatar look like Sae.”
“That was on purpose,” he muttered, buying yet another speed coil. “So I can run him off the map.”
You blinked. “That’s the most emotionally charged thing you’ve ever said.”
Rin finally looked at you, lowering the volume just slightly.
“…You wanna play too?”
“Only if I get to push Sae into the lava.”
He handed you his old iPad, already logged in. “I made you an account yesterday. Your name’s ‘RinLover69.’”
You blinked. “…You’re so unserious.”
“I’m literally the most serious one in this server,” he replied, tapping furiously. “We’re raiding Sae’s base at 4.”
God help you, you were in love with this idiot.

rin itoshi only favoured a few things in his life. that is; football and being the best. he never fancied studying or being popular. not to say that he wasn't either of those things! some might say he was quite the opposite. even with all the effort he put into being the best striker, he still found time to study and take notes and go to class. he wasn't a loner either. he was actually quite well known around campus for how skilled he was with a ball and his striking good looks. yup! stoic front and all, rin was the talk of the campus and piles of love letters formed hills and mountains in his locker and confessions rolled off the tongues of passersby. not that he cared for that, anyway.
he cared for football, being the best, and one more thing. something that he'd never verbally confess but when he wasn't training profusely or studying his hardest for an upcoming exam, he allowed his mind to wander to you and what you were doing. if you were studying as well or if you had your nose deep in this week's novel. he sometimes wondered if you somehow thought about him too, as silly as the thought was to him. he could feel his heart run laps in his chest when you'd walk past him in the hallways or how the hairs that ran along his forearms would raise when he heard you smoothly ask a question during classes.
sometimes, if his teammates were lucky, rin would ask them what they thought of you but their answers were all unsatisfactory to him. "y/n? she's pretty cute." some would say. or "yeah, she's nice, why?" he never understood how you could be "just nice" to anyone when to him, your beauty exceeded his understanding. not just your physical beauty, but the way you treated others. how you'd offer to help teachers who struggled to carry various school equipment or how you'd tutor the other jocks at school. it all forced him to admire you more. that's what he referred to it as, anyway. that squeeze that he'd feel in his chest when he saw you speaking so comfortably with your other classmates or how upset he'd feel when he overheard you speaking to your friends about the date you went on last Friday (they never ended well) were all labelled as pure admiration.
When talking abt Rin’s and Saes meeting after four years, I don’t see a lot of people talk about what Sae said to Rin about Spain
Sae changed his dream to being the best midfielder, him being the first to use the comment that he was “half-baked” and that Rin didn’t understand what it was like beyond Japan.
Sae is made out to be bitter and cold to Rin, and I agree that what he said to Rin was harsh, it’s clear from the flashbacks that Sae is very protective of Rin, so it wouldn’t make sense for him to switch on a dime.
Sae doesn’t want Rin to have the same dream as him, even saying in response that he should quit if his passion for soccer was reliant on Sae and him being the best.
The impression I got from Sae is that he doesn’t want Rin to follow his path, to live in his shadow because something happened in Spain that changed Sae and he doesn’t want that for Rin. Sae is saying not to follow him, to make his own path, that the one he’s on isn’t one he wants for his brother.
(Think of Itachi to Sasuke it feels like the exact same doomed sibling dynamic)
Sae is pushing Rin away, pushing away his soccer dream bc he doesn’t want him to do it for Sae, to do it in his shadow, because the path he followed isn’t one he should see.
And when we think about why Sae teamed up with Shidou and not Rin, the simplest way I can put it is it’s bc Shidou matched Saes freak. Shidou, for reasons we don’t know yet, is just as fucked as Sae (TRUST, they r the same freak different font)
Anyways….Sae isn’t a complete asshole, I mean yeah, he’s said some rough things to Rin but I think ppl r focusing on the wrong things in the reunion of the two brothers
Either way tho doomed siblings r gonna ruin me

A SOCCER PLAYER’S DREAM
Sypnosis: Summary: F/N L/N, isagi's childhood best friend, recently started football. Turns out, they were a prodigy nobody could have seen coming. But it looks like someone's little brother caught their eye.

You sighed as you started walking towards your mirror - silently staring at your half-assed ‘idgaf’ outfit (you do gaf) , hair tied up in a messy bun, shirt slightly droopy revealing your shoulder and shorts. You were about to go out to buy groceries, but realized you had practice with rin.
With a small reluctant sigh, you started searching for your cleats and other stuff, removing your hair tied and watching as your hair falls down to it’s usual look, took off your shirt, put on your go-to practicing clothes and started heading out.
You were just about to go through the door until your mom called out to you and said “don’t take too long!” You sighed and said back: “okay, mom!” Before putting on your shoes and heading out.

Just as you were stepping into the train, you bumped into someone who was going in before you. Before you could even mutter an apology, he turned and mumbled “Y/N?” And your heart almost fell all the way down to your butt as you realized (by your misfortune) that you actually recognized that voice.
And of course out of everyone, you had to see the blond haired guy you had a love - hate relationship with, Hikaru Takahashi. Just as you were about to say something, he pulled you slightly closer by the waist since someone else was passing by next to you (in which you didn’t notice.)
He looked down at you and smiled, saying “good to see you. Haven’t seen you around school, since you’ve been skipping so much. Why’s that?” With a slightly forced chuckle and a hand rubbing the back of your neck, you mumbled out a “was busy with soccer stuff.. yeah.” Before looking up at him.
And once again, like last time, he said: “you’re going to practice, right? How about I accompany you, like last time? I kind of rushed in and ran off because of that rin guy.. he’s quite scary, but I can put up with it.”
Just as you were about to politely decline, he grabbed your hand and slightly dragged you out of the train when you arrived at your stop. He looked so casual about it, as if you weren’t basically trying to rip him off of you.
He has been acting weird since the last time you guys had interacted- more touchy, goo goo eyeing you, heck - people would confuse you guys as a couple if you didn’t back away from him every time he initiated something.
During crowded cross walks, he’d pull you in slightly closer than he actually should, and when you brought it up after, he would brushed it off and say “just keeping a pretty lady safe. Wouldn’t want anyone to take you away in this big crowd.”
You expected him to leave you alone when you guys were gonna be near the field, but oh no, of course, HIKARU wouldn’t do that.
As you guys were approaching the field, you’d expect him to back the fuck off because he saw rin, who didn’t exactly look too pleased - but instead, the dumbass leaned in towards you and was about to kiss you.
The air felt tense, and the time seemed to slow down - if not stopping completely. You were about to be kissed. Kissed by hikaru, the guy who literally bullied you up until high school. You thought it was weird when he randomly started being nice to you, but you didn’t expect for him to like you.
You weren’t sure what to do - shove him off? No, that would seem rude, what if you just slightly faked a fall so that he would miss? No, what if you injured yourself..?
You could feel the clock ticking. Before long, he was gonna kiss you. You ran out of options, and decided that this was it and that you couldn’t do shit to stop it. His lips were about to graze yours, and you were shutting your eyes, waiting for the inevitable.
Just as he was about to kiss you, you felt a strong force pull you towards them and further away from hikaru. You opened your eyes and saw - Rin!
You let out a sigh as you saw him, while hikaru looked slightly pissed off. “I’m not sorry if I interrupted something. Not only did she look uncomfortable, but it’s also time for pur practice and I simply can’t waste time with a lukewarm idiot like you. If you can’t even tell what a girl is thinking, you shouldn’t be trying to kiss them.” He huffed, shoving you a little closer than he needed to.
Just as hikaru was about to say something, he held back and sighed, putting on his fake smile. “Sure. Do what you want, itoshi. Your brother would sure as hell love that.”
You paused and gave hikaru a dirty look. Out of everything he could have said, he decided to go for the low blow?? Seriously, this guy was a living textbook example of a lukewarm idiot!!
Rin simply let out a ‘tch’ and turned to you, grabbing your wrist and pulling you towards the field. “I don’t have time for this. Atleast I have loving parents waiting for me back home, something that you seem to lack.”
——— later, during practice ———————————
Hikaru had already left by that point, leaving you and Rin alone. You were practicing your dribbling today - in which you didn’t mind because you weren’t exactly the best at it. Just as you were about to get your ball stolen by rin, he paused and looked at you.
“Hikaru. I don’t like him. You should cut him off, completely. Someone like that doesn’t deserve someone like… you.” He slightly hesitated at the last part, the tip of his ears burning red.
You paused and raised an eyebrow at rin’s statement. “Someone like… me? What’s that supposed to mean?? Am I weird?:(“ you let put as you stared at Rin, demanding some sort of explanation for what he had just stated.
He paused, realizing he worded it wrong and ‘tsk’d you before saying “I didn’t mean it like that, you idiot. No, you’re not weird. You’re amazing. I mean amazing at soccer!! And I meant what I said. You should cut off hikaru. He’s a distraction to your soccer career.” He paused. ‘If hikaru’s a distraction to her soccer career, aren’t I also technically one..?’ He thought.
You paused and looked at rin before saying “well I wouldn’t say that I like him or anything. Let’s call him an… ‘accidental’ friend. He used to be my old bully. Would throw rocks at me and stuff because I liked ‘weird’ stuff like bugs and bones and stuff while I was a girl. Thought he changed, but, I guess he’s still the same old hikaru - just more… fake now. I’ll cut him off, don’t worry.”
He nodded, and you guys continued your practice as usual. Though, something unusual happened. You saw Isagi enter the field! You practically stopped in your tracks and ran to hug him, before you could even ask why he’s here, he had already picked you up and yelled out a “Ego told me to bring you over to blue lock at 6:30 PM to go against kaiser!! Isn’t that like - insane!? You’re about to get into blue lock!! God, I can’t wait!!”
Rin paused and scowled when he saw isagi, mumbling a “why him..” under his breath before approaching. He eyed isagi up and down, swearing up and down he’s not jealous as he sees isagi hug you closer than he ever could. He sighed and said “so, it’s finally happening, huh.” Rin look at you and almost chokes on air at how pretty you look all excited and shit.
6:30 PM, huh…?
The results will speak for themselves, of course, but rin still silently hoped that you’d get into blue lock. It’d make charles’s and shidou’s antics feel a little less of a headache.

Also, am I the only one who thinks Bachira has self-induced and self-cured schizophrenia?? He was bullied and alone so he made up an imaginary friend who happens to be a creepy ass soccer monster and then Bachi decides to be his own monster and the thing just disappears like-? I'm happy he got his shit together but I'd still have him mentally checked just in case.
And who knows what the fuck is wrong in Shidou's brain but you know something ain't right😭🤚
