Ok, let me make you cry

I was thinking this morning about Ben Solo/Kylo Ren and how his story talks about children abuse. It may be said in some meta, but I’d like to talk about my point of view.

I was abused when I was a child, and somethings happened after that fact:

- my behavior changed to something out of control; - my parents just didn’t know what to do with me once they had no idea about what happened; - I hated my parents because I wish they had protected me; - when my mom discovered, years later, what happened, she tried to blame me, and it was like death for me; - on a second moment, when she saw that I was falling apart, she gave me some support, but asked me to act like nothing had happened, and it made me hate her even more; - every time people tell me they have problems with their parents, I feel like, in some way, we are connected by our pain.

Now, back to Ben Solo’s story:

- He was abused by Snoke since a young age (maybe not in a sexual way, but you got my point); - He starts to grow with the dark side (what I see as him losing control) - His parents send him to Luke (probably because they have no idea what to do with him); - The dark side is stronger in him now (his hate grows); - Luke sees the dark side in his nephew, and instead of help him, he tries to execute him (like in a judgment, where Ben was considered guilty); - Now that he’s almost completely in the dark side (falling apart), his father come from nowhere and asks him to come back home, like if nothing had happened. (familiar?) - When he reads Rey’s mind, and sees her past, that is an instant connection (TFA), and in a certain way, he feels like she is the only one that understand him besides all the mess the he becomes (TLJ)…

I think that’s why we wanna #savebensolo and empathize with him. Not because we are stupid girls in love with an abusive character, but because seeing his pain (every woman has a story to tell, unfortunately) makes us realise that his redemption is also our redemption… He’s human, an he’s trying! And so are we!
