“Oh!” He whirled around— hair fanning out so she could see there were indeed some lovely curls in the underlayer— and backed away, hands up and open, smiling at her the same way she smiled at upset clients. “Sorry, ma’am. We thought you were closed. We didn’t touch your window, we didn’t mean to disturb anything. We’ll leave now.”

Before she could think twice about it, she asked, “What do you usually do with your hair?”

Promise of Spring

Bail invites Obi-Wan to take a break from post-war rebuilding efforts to celebrate Alderaan's first day of spring. Written for Fandom Empire Prompt Tables 2024 - Prompt: "Spring Equinox" and Star Wars: All Types of Love Week - Prompt: "Philia" and StarWars100 - Prompt: "Peace"

Bail waited patiently as the ramp extended from the ship and the door opened. Obi-Wan emerged, smiling and arms spread wide as he approached Bail.

“I know it’s midsummer on Coruscant,” Bail said as he returned the hug. “But I’m glad you could make it for Alderaan’s First of Spring celebration.”

“As am I,” Obi-Wan said. “Though I can’t say I’ve been on Coruscant much lately.”

“Recovery efforts going well, then? I haven’t seen you since the project on Malastare.”

“As well as they can be,” he said. “It takes far longer to rebuild than to destroy, I’m afraid. Your efforts in the Senate are appreciated, but funding can only do so much.”

Bail understood. He’d been on site on plenty of post-war efforts too, and seen the ruined cities and ravaged countrysides; the grief and unease and distrust, all the worse for the knowledge that each side had been betrayed from the onset.

“Come,” Bail said. “We can discuss work later. Today is a day of celebration, and I know you’ll enjoy the festivities.”

Obi-Wan listened attentively as Bail took him around the city and explained the traditions of their celebration of spring. The climate of Alderaan was, of course, such that the beginning of spring still looked much like winter, and the cold air bit at their faces as they walked, offset by the warmth of sharing in celebration with his people and with his friend.

But though the day still resembled winter, the promise of those warmer, vibrant days was evident throughout in the vast displays of traditional artwork and craftsmanship, depicting flowers and rain and sunshine, and in the lively dances and the street performances, in the laughter and singing.

A reminder that they had survived the terrible, cold winter, and that life would grow again.

Hey! Question about the fics needing to be submitted between 7-14th Feb. Do they have to be completed in that time? As in, if the story turns into multiple chapters, do all the chapters need to be posted by the end of the 14th? Ta!

We're glad to know that you felt so inspired by the event that you need multiple chapters to tell the whole story!

This is certainly a scenario that we had not considered. After discussing it among ourselves, we agreed that the only stipulation we would make would be that the first chapter be published during said week and that there is a sincere goodwill to eventually finish the story.

We're very curious to see what you've done so far! We hope it turns out to be everything you hoped for when you started!

Tag us when you post the first chapter on tumblr, so we can follow the story and don't forget to tag the type of love you represent.

Star Wars: All Types of Love week is a fandom event of fancreations, lasting a week, that celebrates love in its many forms! Since we celebrate romantic love and familial love often, we thought it might be time to give an opportunity for other kinds of love to shine!

Inspired by the Ancient Greek Philosophers and their seven kinds of love, we aim to showcase those different, less celebrated loves. Rooting for the little guys!

Star Wars characters, places, animals, games… Be it from the movies, the novels, the comics, the shows like The Clone Wars, The Mandalorian, Andor or even your own OC, the important parts are:

It must be from the Star Wars fandom

It must be about Love and that love must be not romantic or familial

To get a better idea of what we mean by that, you can read more about the seven types of love here. In short, we want to give a chance to shine to:

Love of Friends #philia

Love of Partners #pragma

Love of Players #ludus

Love of Self #philautia

You can post about any of these, at any time of the week. There isn’t a day assigned to each type. The point is to create without pressure and celebrate all the types of love we don’t often focus on! The more of these you depict, the more we will love you for it!

QUESTIONS

“I love my two clones who are bffs, but they are clones. Does their love count as familial?”

Well, the truth rather depends on your point of view how you present it.

Pairs like Fives and Echo, and Rex and Cody, are usually understood in canon and fandom to be family. They can be friends too, but we’d prefer to focus on other pairs for this event. Post another time. We’re sure people will love it.

Alpha-17 and Cody have a cross-generational friendship? As long as the way their relationship is described/shown isn’t the dynamic of big brother & younger brother, or father figure & son figure, it’s good!

Want to show off Waxer & Boil being two peas in a pod? We would love that! As long as it isn’t a ship or they, the characters, don’t feel like the other is kin in the way we understand it.

“I want to show my two Mandalorians who are Partners In Bounty Hunting, but they are from the same clan. Does this work?”

No. I’m sorry, but it does not. We consider clan to be the SW equivalent of immediate family, a close circle, so it’s not the right event for this. But it does work if they are just from the same house or faction!

“Can I do two Jedi who are teammates and lovers?”

You can show any characters (two, three, four…) having a relationship that is sexual and based on love. As long as that love is not romantic.

If what moves your Jedi is the sense of purpose found in duty, the common love for the Light and the wider galaxy, the playfulness and affection shared between bed partners, these feelings can be as big as the moon, and it is still fine!

That is the whole point!

Feelings can be enormous and serious and important and still not be romantic or familial.

But if it’s shown or implied that the relationship is romantic/familial or turning so at some point, that is not what our event is focused on.

We know people are a bit tired from the holidays and that Valentine’s Day is a period often rich with events, which is why we put these conditions so it can be as low-pressure as possible. The point is to rejoice in all the breadth and the richness of the human sentient experience of love. In the love of Star Wars. And in the love of this community.

Be civil and show goodwill to participants and spectators. Be kind. YKINMKATO. Go crazy! Be creative! Have fun!

I really do like you capturing that the galaxy is big and that Palpatine is of course wanting to pick every single fight that he can just cause blood suffering pain and death, spread it all around? kill jedi cant leave them to build roots anywhere but still. the not giving you the option to surrender to occupation, forcing a fight on you cause WANT the fight blood and death some of that being less capability to fight later and clean sweeps? but still galaxy is a huge place and Palps wants it all

He absolutely wants it all, and he's not going to think twice about a little violence (or a lot of violence, as the case may be) to get it! Plus, with the economic factors at play, that's just all the more reason to go full-on systemwide occupation instead of settling for diplomacy or surrender of the Jedi in the Sevret system.

And, after all, what's the point of having thousands of Star Destroyers at one's disposal if one doesn't intend to use them for a little bit of conquest every now and again? :P

On a more serious note, though, part of the reason that I made up a system outside of the Republic was that, apparently, a great many of the worlds in the GFFA were not part of the Republic, and I wanted to show how Palpatine is a threat, not only to the worlds that were formerly Republic and immediately became Empire, but also to any world with valuable resources or any world that harbors someone who could possibly be a threat to his power and his security.

And although the Jedi on Errece didn't pose much of a threat in and of themselves---allowing that ideology to survive, allowing them to exist anywhere in the galaxy and possibly go on to spread that ideology to future generations who could build up the Jedi? Who could perhaps continue the Jedi in secret, in the manner of the post-Bane Sith? He absolutely cannot allow that to happen.

(Also, just wanted to add that from a writing point of view, this chapter was pretty entertaining to scheme up because of how Palpatine thinks he's getting it all with the Sevret system. Destroy some Jedi? Check. Gain access to valuable raw materials for the Empire? Check. Humiliate his foolish apprentice? Check.)

Ah, I'm looking forward to getting to that point too! Suffice it to say, for now, that shenanigannery will be involved at some point, as it should (yes, thank you, Luke and Leia), and some of them will spend some time together sooner than others.

Hoping to get the next chapter out this weekend, by the way... we'll see... between words not wanting to word for the past month or more, and the chapter turning out to be something of a behemoth, it's been slow going, but I think I'm finally on the downhill!

Petrichor, Chapter 4

It's not abandoned! There's just been a severe idea drought for... oof, the past few months? (This is my other SW fic, a time travel fix-it focusing on Obi-Wan and Anakin.) I guess the upside of struggling with the last chapter of Fortune's Rule Part II is that it led to the productive procrastination that resulted in this chapter?

Chapter 4. In which first thing in the morning is a bad time for delicate discussions.

I fell asleep last night to the comforting sounds of Anakin working away at repairing my appliances.  It was the most restful sleep I have enjoyed since the commencement of the old war, and now I feel unusually refreshed—fortunately so, for today I shall be required to soothe my fractious padawan’s anxieties anent returning to his own era.

Anakin slumbers still.  I rise and set about breakfast preparations; when they are complete, I take a moment to study him.  In sleep, he is peaceful, and despite the deep shadows under his eyes, his youthful features pretend an innocence to match that of the boy who lives across the wastes.  A smear of grease adorns his cheek, and I obey an irresistible impulse to wipe it away.  My hand lingers to brush a few stray hairs out of his face. As he shifts like a sleeping tooka under the touch, tension melts away which I had not realised he was holding.  Even now, I cannot read him as well as I ought, and so I withdraw to the table with a sigh.  His presence in this time, beneath this roof, is no mere chance.  The Force has placed him under my auspices.

Behind the scenes...

The Paint Incident in Fortune's Rule II-XV was inspired by two separate incidents from my childhood.

Kids painting all over themselves comes from one time when I was two or three and drawing with markers. Was happily drawing with markers on paper, as intended. Mom turned her back for a couple minutes. When she turned back, I had somehow managed to cover most of my epidermis in purple and black scribbles. Fortunately, that was just washable marker. Of course, the Chaos Twins needed to take things up a couple notches, so for the Paint Incident, the paint became much more permanent. (Note: For years after the marker incident, I thought she was really mad about the incident, but then at some point in my teens, I found out that she actually found it funny.)

And the cadaver conversation, when Luke thinks it would be cool to see a body without skin in order to find out how muscles work? That was inspired by this one time when my brother and I were at Red Lobster with our mom, grandparents, uncle, aunt, and cousin. Our aunt ordered crab, and we somehow got ahold of one of the smaller claws. It still had short tendons connected to the base of it, so we were pulling on the tendons to explore how they controlled the opening and closing. It was super cool! So, I figure, the chaos twins might be fascinated and not super grossed out by the concept of a cadaver.

The crab claw exploration also totally grossed out our aunt, which was just an added plus. So, her reactions somewhat inspired Padmé's reaction when Luke wants to see a corpse.
