adventure time slang is weird cuz like. when you first watch the show and hear the slang you're like "oh this is cringy slang but its not like awful" but it gets to a point where the voice actors deliver the slang so naturally you don't even notice it and its just. part of the world's vernacular. I can't think of any other show that's done in-universe slang like this
"why don't you use card sleeves" because a fundamental part of my MTG game is psychological warfare. I have 0 interest in maintaining the value of my cards, i'm not concerned with their condition as long as they're playable, so when i get new ones i bend and stretch them to hell until the paper stock is well broken in, well enough that i can take all 80-odd cards and do a full-side riffle and bridge. I'll lock eyes with you across the table as I split my deck in half, and i will smile pleasantly, innocently, almost vacuously as I riffle the halves together in my hand, before I bend that shit back into a bridge and let the waterfall cascade down into my palms before I true them up and hit them with the old one-handed cut before plopping them in front of you. This is a card game girl, I'm not playing with collectable trinkets. I'll break you harder then i broke in my new phyrexia deck. I'll pin you down and bend your back 'till you damn near snap, before i crush you into the fucking sheets and let my toxins seep inside you. yeah, no, if you need to go jack off in the bathroom you'll have to forfeit.

Anyways I wanna share something neat that I learned but I'm gonna preface this by saying that I'm not "into" baseball. I'm just visiting the baseball zoo and reading the little blurbs the have on the cages
With that out of the way, when you swing a bat, your momentum naturally goes with the bat, right? So for righties, immediately after batting, their momentum starts to take them to third base, meaning they have to fight against the bat's momentum before running to first
But for lefties, the bat's momentum is already taking them to first! Apparently lefties can, on average, reach first base a sixth of a second faster than righties
Apparently it also makes a difference in receiving a pitch, since a righty receiving a pitch from a righty will see it coming from behind their shoulder, but a lefty receiving a pitch from a righty can clearly see the ball
Because of this, they started bringing in lefty pitchers to counteract the lefty batters and the result is a sport with 2-4x as many lefties as the general public

The astute among you might have noticed that last week 48% was covered but this week it's only 44%, and might be wondering where the extra 4% went. I do consider Wolverine's interactions with Jean and Scott in the first X-Men movie to be sort of an inverse unicorn hunter scenario. sometimes the unicorn hunts you. aggressively.
I don't know who needs to hear this but please please please please please explore the settings. Of your phone, computer, of every app you use. Investigate the UI, toggle some things around and see what happens. You won't break anything irreperably without a confirmation box asking you if you really mean to do that thing. And you can just look up what a setting will do before touching it if you're really worried ok?
Worst case scenario you just have to change the settings back if you don't like what happened but it is so so so important to explore the tools available to you and gain a better understanding for how the stuff you use works.
Even if you already know. Even if you're comfortable with how you use it now. You don't just have to accept whtever experience has been handed to you by default and it's good for you to at least know what's available to you.

had a fascinating dream last night where there was a new, virally popular trading card game - it was called MOUNTAIN (stylised in all caps) and the whole gimmick was that you couldn’t buy boosters or anything - you had to find them?
nowhere sold MOUNTAIN - I mean, I expect players did, once cards were in their hands.
but acquiring cards meant noticing a box lying around, and just….nabbing it? they’d be in weird places - in a skip, wedged high up in a fence, nestled in the branches of a tree? nobody ever saw who left them there, and there was a lot of debate about how MOUNTAIN boxes were sometimes hard to acquire without risking one’s physical safety - but then, that was also bragging rights. especially as harder-to-reach boxes seemed to contain more elusive and sought after cards…
no, I don’t remember anything about the actual gameplay, we never played any MOUNTAIN. alas. I know there were “frame cards” that were literally transparent but for a fancy metallic or holographic border, which I guess upgraded the card they were applied to? frames were super rare, my coworker literally ran up to me in the pub purely to show off the frame he’d just found

My absolute favorite part about Control is Jesse’s nightmare at the end. It’s so fascinating, standing around and listening to what everyone has to say. Emily, giggling over the phone about boys. Underhill, scared to death that Marshall - now a secretary - has taken ill and can’t bring the Director his mail. Arish and Langston are crammed into the Exec security booth, blabbering on about how great Trench is (then how terrible, in the second iteration).
And the imagery: in the second iteration, some of the Hiss-possessed employees will shift randomly into different forms if you stand around and watch long enough. It’s terrifying and grotesque. The mug on the table will shift into a skull, then into a book, then disappear.
But most interesting to me is a small line of dialogue in the second iteration: Emily says something along the lines of, “oh, that’s the new girl. Rumor has it she was promoted from somewhere in Maintenance. She has no idea what she’s doing and has to have everything explained to her.”
