Great list. Saving for later.
Great info! That's the reason some conversions from newer games have flat and unsaturated textures.
It's a great method for shading even if you don't have a normal map. Make one out of the texture with an image editing software, or with Nvidia Texture Tools Exporter. If the texture is too flat, it can be made out of the mesh itself in blender, like so.
You can retain many details by desaturating (the right way) normal map and using it as overlay.
I thought so too but then remmembered it was actualy ATS, around the sims, I was thinking about. Its ts1 section is still up by the way.
With the release of the Legacy collection, the original The Sims game has seen a resurgence in its modding scene. While much of the modding community is currently located in places like Tumblr or specialized sites such as Simblr.cc, most sites don't have the sort of infrastructure, history, or community that MTS does.
While other sites such as TSR had a section for The Sims, they've recently locked them and prohibited new submissions. Additionally, TSR has a history of being driven primarily by profit while MTS is almost entirely driven my fans. It seems wrong that one of the oldest, and most established, Custom Content aggregate sites doesn't have it's own dedicated section for The Sims as so much of the games' original custom content from the 2000s disappears.
MTS having its own section would make it one of the only custom content aggregate sites to have a functioning download section for the original game.
These bloody conversions.
tempted to call this Assassin Sims in Paris.
Wip: Assassin Sims.
Since i've shared my resources list, I might as well share this too. Nothing is finnished, hence the wip. Ezio's outfit was converted by Daislia at GoS. Working dl at page 3.
I don't want to unfreeze this frame. In the pictures: some cafe furniture from Unity. Roofs, plants and wall from Brotherhood. The wall will be a 3 parter, and seamless of course, in the picture it's just one part. Not ideal but otherwise the texture would shrink badly. None of the materials is ready yet, the end result will look nicer, I hope.
Update: I’ll be updating the list on this page from now on, since Tumblr can’t handle so many hyper-links in one post, on Dreamwidth - right here, so I won't have to update it multiple times. Please note: I keep updating this list, and updates aren't showing up on reblogs. Please check the original post for the most up to date list.
Sooo this is going to be a long comprehensive list. I got back to this game after a long time and with a different computer, with a dedicated graphics card, hurray! It made me want to return to making things, so while gathering back all the necessary stuff, I've complied this list. It might be is updated as I go along, but these are the main things I use. Maby one day i'll even finish something. So here are my go-to resources & tutorials; I'm posting it here for safekeeping, and hopefully others will find it helpful. Everything that's listed is here free. So many wonderful things for free under the cut.

Magnificent! I was hoping to find something like this, it's spot on.
I never liked these fences (and it seems no one else liked it either, as I couldn't find any recolor or retexture of them), but that changed once I found out that they were inspired by the Parisian subway stations in Art Nouveau style:
Lovely, isn't it? Therefore, I decided that a less shiny texture would fit them well, applied @cluedosims' rough metal textures to them and voilà! Now they're finally useful:
These are default replacements for the two fences in-game ("Nouvelle Fence by I. Ron Smith"), the green and the iron one.
I also found two other textures in the game files ("brass" and "white"), which I put in proper packages so now you can use them as well, and they're recategorized to appear neatly together in the catalog.
Since I linked these directly to the hidden Maxis texture files, they will pick up any default replacement you might have for these textures. In my default replacement file, those textures are replaced with @cluedosims' "bronze" and "silver" textures, respectively.
⚠️ Not all the files are meant to be put in the Download folders! Here's what you need to know:
The three files inside the folder labeled "These ones go in your Res - Catalog - Bins folder" should go in this path:
C:/Program Files (or wherever else you installed your game)/The Sims 2/[your latest EP or SP]/TSData/Res/Catalog/Bins
If you don't want Cluedo textures, and you merely want to unlock the lost and found Maxis textures, simply abstain from placing the default file in your Downloads folder.
Please let me know if you have any doubts or if I screwed anything up.
Credits: @shastakiss / @cluedosims for the textures!
New suit for TS2 based on a model from Detective Pikachu Returns, combined with Wingtip shoes.
16 recolors, EM enabled
Download: SFS | BOX Polycount: 7383, has "fat" morph
Recolors make use of envcube mask, if you don't have Sim Standard Material shader edit by @crispsandkerosene in your game, shoes will look a bit different.

I've shared my Splatoon 2 Wingtips (brogues) conversion as creator resource HERE (SFS) or HERE (BOX) - archive contains shoes (1742 poly) plus naked AM bottom with morphs, bumpmaps and new textures.
I've struggled a bit with adjusting this suit for TS2 body, not super happy with the legs part but it's acceptable. Original shoes are not bad but not formal enough so I decided to ditch those (might do them as separate shoe resource) .
I've included TXMT settings for the shoes (matt / shiny) - white, brown and black texture included with the mesh, so you can easily change shoe colors in SimPe. Also, shine can be switched off by setting 'reflection' mode to 'none'.
Blue stripey suit is original texture with edited tie color.
Three recolors with jeans are categorized as Everyday, other recolors are Everyday & Formal.
Just re-signed at MTS after years and went to uppdate profile. This gives some proportions..
No Homecrafter either, save your money people. This is not an acceptable quality release.

Sims 2 Legacy Edition:
1. NO Bodyshop, tried to run the UC version but it crashed | EDIT: some users have reported being able to copy over bodyshop and run it, but the folder paths are not configured correctly.
2. NO IKEA stuff pack, can be downloaded
3. RPC & associated mods NOT currently working | UPDATE: LD has said on X that he would like to eventually make his mods compatible with this version of the game, so hopefully in the future we will see an RPC for Legacy
4. Scriptorium broken / causes game to crash on load | EDIT: Can be installed manually
5. Pink flashing not solved
6. Object Limit still there (lol)
7. Custom Skins buttons in CAS broken
8. Users are reporting a TONNE of new gameplay bugs - broken pets, broken cutscenes, disappearing Sims, BV community lots not working - it's wild. Check out the EA help forums or this thread on MTS for more: https://modthesims.info/showpost.php?p=5987455&postcount=1
Stick with Starter Pack friends!
The void of doom has bothered me for a long time. I finally found the textures in the program files months ago, and it took me months to get around to making an upload. I also found out how to get paint under the water, but I imagine there’s at least one person who would want the simpler way of using a default.
Here’s the preview/swatch of all 3 options:
As shown in the first picture, the terrain.ini can be edited to get rid of the sand edge (which shares it’s texture with the beach texture). Editing this file is optional, but I personally recommend it. I included a terrain.ini in the download, which is from the MG program files.
I haven’t seen any differences between various EP/SP combos, but you may want to edit your own if you’re way pre-MG or have your own configurations already in your own terrain.ini. Open the terain.ini file in the program files of MG or your newest EP of you don’t have MG. The file path will be something like InstallLocation/Sims 2/Most Recent EP\TSData\Sys. For example mine is C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection\Fun with Pets\SP9\TSData\Sys
These are the values I used:
ShallowPaintDepthMin=-0.35 DeepPaintDepthMin=0 ShallowPaintDepthMax=5 DeepPaintDepthMax=2BeachPaintPeakDepth=0 BeachPaintEndDepth=0 BeachPaintMaxAlpha=0
Any terrain.ini edits won’t apply to existing ponds, although this is pretty easy to fix. Just redig around the pond edges (some objects may need to be moved) then undo it. The pond paint will be updated. Then fix any terrain painting/objects/deco that got messed up.
All files are compressed with included swatch and preview. I also included the terrain.ini instructions.

I've put together some of my favourite shiny TXMT settings - these are for TS2 CC creators /anyone editing recolors in SimPe.
I've included two custom envcubes.
Also recommended: my Shine Removal Kit.
Download: SFS | BOX
These settings should be added to TXMT with 'merge' button /not 'import'/. Instructions are included.
As is the case with StandardMaterial, envcube reflections get much stronger outdoors. This pack includes various TXMT settings for opaque object recolors, to simulate materials such as glass, porcelain, gold, polished metal, stainless metal, cars and other glossy outdoor objects.
Shine settings can be merged with all kinds of settings (tinted, transparent, with textures, or textureless).
stdMatEmissiveCoef and stdMatDiffCoef brightness might affect the intensity of reflections
Please note my shine settings can also be used for SimStandardMaterial stuff BUT results will be a little different /CAS accessories using that shader look the same indoors and outdoors/.
One of the setting files features my custom greylivingroom-envcube, it's based on TS2 gothlivingroom_01-envcube, which I very often use for glazed pottery or glass bottles -BUT it doesn't have any brassy tones, unlike original.
And there's also pfmall-envcube which I created for cars displayed indoors, but it's not exactly how I imagined it - I haven't found much use for it so far. Both custom envcubes are tiny, 64x64 px DXT5.
A Bit Of Gloss: porcelain / glass kind of shine, good for small objects, I often use it for bottles
A Bit Of Neutral Gloss: same as above, but no warm hues
Cool Sparkles: highly polished surface effect, good for small and larger objects
Shiny Gold & Stainless Steel Shine: what it says on the tin
Subtle Shine Blueish: barely visible indoors, this one is good for outdoor metals
Car Varnish Glossy Outdoor: reflection with green grass, trees and sky
Glossy glowing: for lit panels and such
This is an expansion on @picknmixsims Microsoft Excel sheet available here. It is a table I made that is incredibly lazy but effective and quick at searching for searching for Maxis GUID conflicts when you create new GUIDs. It's a little easier to use since the GUID Database has been down for a long time and you can add your own GUIDs onto the list and update the formula if you're savvy enough in Excel.

they claimed to have fix the pink soup…
You all can thank Sunni for putting this idea on the table and in my head in the midst of the DR madness I am suffering. Basically, as she watched weeds spread across a test lot of hers, she thought hm…it would be a nice touch if it was grass growing naturally. NOW IT IS. But you all know me and I can’t stop at that…so not only do you get grass, you get clover! Still not enough! How about some wildflowers instead? Pick from 10 choices! Let one “weed” sprout and watch it go crazy so you too can have wonderous things growing instead of nasty old weeds. But weeds are bad, my sims hate weeds! Is that what you say? These DRs are modified so that they don’t tank environment score when they are present! So enjoy letting them spread. Autonomy has been turned off on them so those OCD sims won’t rush to get rid of them. Too impatient to wait for weeds to grow? These have also been made available to buy from the catalog itself. Plop one down and let it take off. You can find it in the Misc > Misc category. These meshes are less poly than the original weeds so they shouldn’t bog down too much. You can always direct a sim to pick weeds but don’t let them do so unsupervised or they will pick EVERY “weed”. As always, you can only have one DR for anything in your game. Choose wisely. Mesh/texture props to Kate and Kativip.

Here's this thing (two things, to be exact) I came up with. Looks kinda modernist, as in: eastern bloc modernism 😅 Decorative bits can be used on its own to create a sort of leaning pergola.
Download: SFS | BOX
❗ Note: Top bit becomes quite dark if a wall is lit from the opposite side :/
Angled wall mask is actually a window but I categorized both objects as Buildmode/Architecture (so M&G EP is required).

By popular demand (I saw two people asking) I thought I would throw together a quick guide to using the road editor tool in the newest version of SimPE! You'll see that this is a very easy tool to use, and best of all, goof-proof. If you do mess up (you probably will) it's very, very easy to correct.
Very, very, very important to make a backup of your hood before you ever do any tinkering in SimPE! I also recommend practicing on a test hood you don't actively play in to get a feel for it before you do anything to your main hoods.
We're starting with a vanilla Strangetown. I would recommend going in your game and taking a nice overhead screenshot of the hood like this first to look at for reference of where everything is situated the way that you're used to looking at it.
2. Open SimPE, go to Tools> Neighbourhood> Neighbourhood Browser and open the hood you're wanting to work on. If you're not so familiar with SimPE, opening your hood can take some time. Touch nothing until it's loaded!
3. Once it's all loaded, from the Resource Tree list pick Neighbourhood Terrain Geometry (NHTG). Then you'll see one file populate the Resource List - click that. Make sure on the bottom that you have Plugin View tab selected.
4. Now you should see this map of your hood pop up! There are different things you can toggle, I like to check the Show Lots box when I'm editing the roads. Then click the Road Editor button on the right.
5. To be able to see better, I've pulled this Plugin View window up a bit - it may rearrange the Resource List and Resource Tree windows a bit to accommodate. You can also press the Zoom 2x button to see closer, and then you'll have to use the scroll bars to move around the map and the road editor tool.
6. The road editing tools here will be placed down in the same orientation as the map. So the two parallel roads running through Strangetown from this perspective are the vertical straight road pieces (top row, second from left).
When you select a road tool, above it will indicate which tool you have selected.
Also - I recommend having Handle Stop Signs ticked.
7. Once you have the correct type of road selected for the spot you're working on, simply click on the map - it lays it down one tile at a time. If you miss a spot like shown here, just fill it in.
8. If you want to create an intersection, first delete the section of road where the intersection will go.
9. Then choose the type of junction for the intersection you're making, and add that piece in. You'll see a red circle appear (unsure if this is because it's an intersection or because you have handle stop signs selected, but I recommend you do have that selected either way).
10. Once you're done making all your changes, click Close Editor.
11. This is the part where you save your changes! First click Commit in the top right of the editor. Then, File> Save!
12. Load your game to check! Looks pretty good with all those new roads!
13. However, we have indeed made some mistakes! Which were absolutely for illustrative purposes and not truly an accident.
14. Never fear! Simply reload the hood in SimPE - I've deleted the spot where the T-junction should go and added one in, and deleted where the road just ended abruptly and added a proper end piece.
I have not experimented with what happens if you try to build a road through hood deco - if you have, please let us know in the comments how that went!
I also have barely touched the terrain editing tools, so that's outside the scope of this tutorial.
I hope this helped!
Tiny object mesh combined with large shadow mesh often results in crappy thumbnail (even if you can’t see the ground shadow that doesn’t mean there isn’t one).
The most popular TS2 deco cloning material ever: Fruit bowl & Chinese vase both come with custom (non-standard) thumbnail camera settings. Vase settings may work well for some cc meshes but usually don’t. Fruit bowl camera settings are sh*t.
Note: obviously you can also replace the shadow with a smaller one.
Note2: By “the entire mesh” I meant: everything above the ground level ;)
And if you’d rather fix a shadow instead of removing it, I did a tut on that.
Sometimes it’s enough to clear out custom thumbnail camera settings in thumbnailExtension. Sometimes removing or resizing the shadow will do the trick - often it’s both.
I tend to avoid reblogging, I should probably set up a finds blog, but for now, here's a list of all the new mods I've found and started using for The Sims 2 in the last few months:

So most of these amazing finds are not yet on my full list, but I'm pretty sure they'll all be sticking around so will be on there soon! Check it out for more mod recommendations.
I'll be releasing some stuff myself soon so keep an eye out👀

Wayback Machine is a GREAT tool. It just has a few issues. The number one issue is that it isn't great at crawling. Normal HTML sites are no problem but more complex sites like forums and especially blogs are hard for it to navigate. It tends to get only very small pieces of LiveJournal for example. The entire official Sims 3 forum from 2009-2017(?) is just gone because Wayback wasn't able to access it.
As I've talked about over the past few years, I'm trying to archive a lot of CC with Archive.org. This works well for most older sites but not so well with newer ones. Plus, I'm focusing on custom content more than webpages and stories.
Stories, that people put hours and hours into, legacies, forum posts, pictures, blog posts, all things that are just TOO numerous for me to even make a dent in on my own.
Buuuut, if I could get a bunch of simmers who were actively viewing blogs and downloading content and reading forum posts to archive every post they viewed that could do something!
Wayback Machine Auto-Archiver is a bot that archives all PUBLIC webpages that you visit to the wayback machine. Think of it as a bot that follows you around taking a shot of every blog you visit. Obviously, this isn't just for Sims content but it would certainly help the community who may go looking for the content that you archived after it's LONG gone from the internet.
The auto-archiver is a simple extension. If you're running Chrome or Edge you simply install it like any other extension and then you surf the web like always.
The more simmers who use it, the more content gets archived. Also, it's entirely anonymous. If you're a lurker and you've never made or posted anyway, think of this as a way to give back!
Download it here and please reblog!
(I will be reblogging this post several times)
Hi,
I run a website called The Sims Graveyard.
http://thesimsgraveyard.com/
I am always looking for files from creators/websites that have left or disappeared from the community to ensure that their work doesn't get lost. Anything from Sims2, Sims3, or Sims4.
I will always have a running list of "missing" creators/websites on the graveyard website, but I will also be posting individual WCIF posts here on tumblr, hoping that maybe someone on tumblr has the files who maybe hasn't been to the website, or people can share my WCIF posts and maybe it will reach someone else who does have the files.
I am strictly using this for WCIF posts, please communicate with me through my website for anything else. Thank you!
