So me (24M) and my girl (22F) who I'll call "Cecelia" were making love up in my bedroom this afternoon and I got up for ONE SECOND to wash my face and when I got back there's some other guy in my bed with her. as much as i love ofmd, i feel like some people online just genuinely don’t know what they're talking about with regards to hbo. ofmd was never gonna get the critical acclaim of shows like barry or succession because at its heart it *is* a comedy. it was a new show that wasn’t incredibly serious and dramatic, so it makes sense it got little promotion. and as much as i love david jenkins, he’s only made like 1 not that successful show before, so hbo was likely trying to play it safe. and the show’s success, largely due to lgbtq+ people was a shock to everyone, but i’m sure the audience was not only gay people when it was being tested, meaning that a decent chunk of them weren’t nearly as enthusiastic as we all are. i think people don’t understand that the main thing hbo cares about is making *money* off of these shows. the idea that there is some big conspiracy at hbo to thwart the gay pirate show is absolutely ridiculous. they don’t want it to fail, they want it to make them money!! i completely agree that they waited too long to renew it for a second season, but it’s likely because it did way better than they ever thought it would, and they were unsure if the momentum could be kept up/ whether it was financially smart to go against what they previously thought about the show. anyway rant over people just say really dumb shit on the internet

in ofmd ep 4 when stede shows ed the picture of blackbeard in the book, ed says the drawing looks like “a vampire clown”. the first known conception of the vampire was in the 1819 short story aptly titled “the vampyre”. so basically what i’m saying is that ed canonically invented vampires

ok everyone is talking about how amazing it is that mary just accepts stede when he tells her his love is ed, which is absolutely true. but it’s not that she just accepts him, she looks like SUPER happy. and I think we also have to consider what this meant for her in this moment. this guy she had to marry who she didn’t particularly care for never put effort in their marriage. of course mary didn’t like it either, but she always TRIED and was consistently frustrated that stede had given up from the get go. even tho they didn’t love each other, that shit probably hurt. mary must have thought stede hated her so much that he didn’t even see the point in trying with her, which would make anyone feel like shit. but now that she knows that stede was just gay and she could never give him that love and satisfaction, it shows her that she wasn’t doing anything wrong and explains his complete lack of effort. she understands now that it was stede, not her, and now they can both be happy
