Gwendolyn jumped as the front door to the home he was staying at slammed open. He sat up from where he sat, placing his propped up feet back onto the floor. "Illy?" He stood and approached the woman he'd come to know as a friend who had somehow found where he was staying. "What are you doing here?"
Illendra stood in the doorway, dripping wet from the rain outside. She glared up from under her wet bangs and spoke clearly. "How do I die?" Her voice was firm, but shaky. And her eyes, dark with hate and anger. Wet with something other than the rain.
Gwendolyn drooped at the question and extended his arms to Illendra, trying to comfort her. "Illy. You know I can't-"
"Don't give me that shit, Rolfe!" Illendra stepped inside, pointing an accusatory finger at Gwendolyn. "I know you know and, damnit, you're the only one I can trust to tell me!" She motioned angrily, "Just- be the rebel you say you are and fucking tell me! I can't do this if- If I don't- If I don't know what he-" Illendra looked away and hugged herself.
Gwendolyn sighed and took off his coat, placing it over her shoulders gently. "Let's get you dried off, yeah? We can talk about this later, okay?"
"No!" Illendra shook off his coat, "I'm tired of all this! I'm tired of not knowing, of you looking at me with that pitying fucking look in you eyes-" Gwendolyn flicked his eyes away sheepishly at the point, knowing he'd been doing that. "I'm tired of- of Boss and this stupid fucking fate, and the stupid fucking curse bitch and- and-" Illendra buried a hand in her hair roughly, tears spilling freely at this point.
Gwendolyn blinked a few times, before sighing deeply and looking behind himself a moment in thinking before looking back to Illendra. "You know if I tell you, you can't go back to not knowing."
"You think I don't know that, Gwen?!" Illendra's voice cracked, sniffing angrily and wiping her eyes roughly. "I just.... Wouldn't you have wanted to know?" She looked away, hugging herself, "Before you made your own mistake? Left for your own fate?"
Gwendolyn looked to the floor, distantly. Thousands of screams and the terrible sirens rang somewhere in his mind. He bent down and picked up his coat, "You're impaled," Illendra startled at him actually saying something, instead of saying sorry and moving her along. He began to fold the coat absently, not looking at her, "In your abdomen. Right above your belly button. Your lung gets pierced and the sword exits to the right of your spine. You go into shock pretty much immediately, after he removes the blade. So you don't feel much. You bleed out, I think."
Illendra blinked a few times as Gwendolyn talked, having turned away from her and hung his coat over the arm of his coach as he spoke. He swallowed thickly and leaned on the coach, head hung as he took off his hat and put it on his chest in a mourning method. "I- .... You're not alone. As you die. There is someone there. I cannot say who, but it is not him. He flees after you fall. A small comfort, I know but...." He choked on what he could say after that.
Illendra sniffed and clutched at her stomach, gripping her shirt fabric there roughly. She smiled, however, tears flowing freely, "Thank you, Gwen."
"Sure," Gwendolyn's own voice cracked dryly, trying to ignore the future gurgling of pain and fear ringing in his ears. Knowing it was him who had to hold her as she died. Comfort her and tell her that it was okay. He didn't know if she would realize it was him. And she didn't need to know it was him. But... She didn't deserve to die alone. He knew he'd go there as soon as he knew. He knew he'd want the same. And so he'd give the same. For her. Because he-
"I'm sorry I asked you do that-" Illendra looked away a moment, sniffing, "I just-"
"It's fine," Gwendolyn pretended he wasn't crying and ran a hand through his hair. "You want something to drink? And a towel? You're dripping all over my carpet."
Illendra looked down before laughing bitterly, "Sorry. Sure. Thanks."
Gwendolyn nodded and went to the kitchen. Leaning against the wall next to the doorway after he finally entered it and covering his mouth. So he could finally sob openly.
I’m quite happy with how this turned out. Just a quiet drawing to cool down for the night.
Gwendolyn has a lot of pent up anger towards the deity who controls time. He worshiped Boss at one point in time. But, Boss had Gwendolyn do something..... Terrible. Something that did not need to happen for history to continue on the path it was headed. But Gwendolyn was assigned to it anyway. And around 4000 people died. Being forced to do that would make even the most loyal of men question their leader.
But, he knows he can do nothing with this anger. The deity knows all Gwendolyn has and will do. The curse of working with someone who knows all of history that has and will happen. So, Gwendolyn rebels against his post. It’s the most he can do to show his dissatisfaction.

Unbeknownst to the common man, the concept many would know as a "time lord" is real. Guardians of history, Arglwydd Amsers are assigned to various spots in history, to make sure certain important events happen by the god of time. When they're not on assignment, they're in the designated "present" - making sure no one is messing with the time stream. Blending in, looking like normal mortals (minus their eyes). No one knows they exist (except a select few they keep as companions, more on that in the notes).
Gwendolyn went through the motions. Did his duty for a long time. Made sure time was right, and made sure some.... horrible things happened. He... hated it, to be frank. Having everything in his life decided for him. Everything he'd ever do was decided for him. He didn't want any of this. He was never asked what he wanted, his feelings never considered.
Gwendolyn ran away. He went rogue, galavanting through time and trying to be as free as he could be. He avoids any other time lords, knowing he'd likely be forced back to his duty. He never purposefully screws up anything in the time stream, knowing how hard it is to fix. However, he doesn't mind if something happens on accident. Whatever, right? He doesn't care anymore. He's free. And loving life.
A few tid bits:
All Arglwydd Amsers are intersex. This includes Gwendolyn. Their gender is left up to them.
Arglwydd Amsers generally do not like interacting with other Arglwydd Amsers. They never really consider them family or lovers, just a coworker they might run into who might mess with their work. Because of this, it’s rare to see more than one in any one time period/place combination.
Companions are important to Arglwydd Amsers. They tell one person the truth behind what they are and take them on adventures with them. The companion is locked from telling anyone the truth behind who the Arglwydd Amser is with a silence spell similar to Pearl's silence in Steven Universe. This is not done on purpose but is a sort of survival instinct done automatically by the Arglwydd Amser.
If a companion is mortal, the Arglwydd Amser always keeps a keepsake to remember the companion by. And returns them to their time before they age too much.
The time god knows what companions each Arglwydd will get throughout their lives, but prefers to leave their identities and what their relationships will be like a surprise to the Arglwydd Amser. He also never tells what other relationships will be important through the Arglwydd Amser’s life, or what they need to say in order to complete their mission. He knows his Arglwydd Amsers are smart and can figure things out themselves.
Arglwydd Amsers are sort of like jellyfish. They can, theoretically, live forever. However, they can be killed by outside means. The time god is aware of if and when an Arglwydd Amser will die and is ready to replace them at a moment's notice. He never gets attached to them for this reason.
The time god is aware of Gwendolyn running away, but simply does not care. He does not foresee him causing any major problems- and he has enough Arglwydd Amsers to cover any spots Gwendolyn is supposed to be. One rouge one is nothing to worry about.
There are other Arglwydd Amsers who know Gwendolyn is rebelling and are chasing after him, trying to get him back to work. Unaware their boss doesn't care.
Wdym their engagements got broken there having a little date happily
